A Red Carpet Craze

It's always been cinematic tradition that the summer produces a plethora of the year's greatest and most grossing movies. I saw Inception on Saturday and loved it's action, complexity, and the fact that Joseph Gordon Levitt  was in it. Toy Story 3 was amazingly emotion and the ending definitely hit home. I preferred Forgetting Sarah Marshall  than Get Him to the Greek but I find Russell Brand mind-blowingly hysterical (I purchased his biography yesterday).  And while we've seen all of these hard hitting reviews, I feel like the red carpet premieres are always so understated and frequently ignored. Some innovative designs and fashions almost go unnoticed, which is sad. So I'm taking it upon my self to discuss some of the good fashions on the red carpet. There's going to  be a decent amount and quite frankly, if the bad are so bad, they should be forgotten. So here we go...

• Angelina Jolie at the Salt premiere. I loved the way she rocked the Emporio Armani mini. Even though she's one of our older leading ladies, the sequined mini didn't make her look like an old-has been, as it might have made others look. Instead, it was fresh and was a nice relief from her frequent body covering attire. And the tan shoes were a perfect match: it was the perfect amount of simplicity to give the black mini the limelight it deserves! 
• Joseph Gordon Levitt at the Inception premiere. As the official first runner up for being my husband, I can't hate his fashion. But I LOVED this. I think it's enjoyably classy when someone decides to wear a  bow-tie. I thought it was very clever how he went with a gray suit, bow-tie, and black shirt. I thought it was well fit with the movie's overall coloring (very dark, ominous colors overall). He just looked SO CUTE! I love it! 
• Kristen Stewart at the Eclipse premiere. First of all, I hate Kristen Stewart.  I hate her whole "I hate the paparazzi and fans" ideals and her awkwardness isn't charming, but it's just trashy on her part.  Taylor Lautner nor Robert Pattinson should be fighting over her. But only Marchesa  can make Kristen Stewart look like a fashion goddess.  I think the strappy platforms she wore are predictable and maybe a different shoe would've been better but I'm not holding it against Kristen Stewart...since she always wears Converses. Anyways...the dress. The asymmetrical dimensional shoulder was absolutely divine. I loved it.  It was so fashion forward, artistic, and the perfect thing to wear to such a highly publicized premiere.
• Robert Pattinson at the Eclipse premiere. Well from the red carpet to the movie, Eclipse made me "Team Edward" (for the record, I'm not a Twi-Diva...the whole phenomenon is kind of creepy but I do love me some rom-coms). But anyways...his creativity was BRILLIANT! Like honestly, who wears a red suit?  The maroon Gucci suit was so smart, creative, and just plain AWESOME. He is really becoming a fashionable man, which is necessary in the world today. 
• Amanda Seyfried at the Letters to Juliet premiere. The public sees so many leading ladies go to premieres in dresses, minis, maxis, or gowns. I don't think it's a bad thing- I'm a dresses kind of girl- but sometimes, there could be some more pizazz. AMANDA SEYFRIED BROUGHT IT! I loved the blazer with the sparkled lapel matched with the shorts. It was so creative but classic in my mind. A masculine feminine fashion has been an emerging trend and, in my mind, Seyfried hit the nail on the head.  And the black peep-toes were appropriately matched: it brought the attention to the lapel, which is what was supposed to happen.  It was so sleek. Good work, Seyfried.
• Diane Kruger at the National Movie Awards. I'm thrilled Diane hit this one out of the park because I really love her style. But the last few red carpets, she had to go on my "Worst Dressed List". This had such a tribal look and the metallics were so chic. There's just so much texture and the dress looks like it has history or a story behind in (cliche? a little...). Something about this reminds me of the Louis Vuitton Spring RTW 2009 Collection. Lanvin copies Louis? Interesting... But what I find most interesting are the shoes. Cameron Diaz wore the same shoe to a Knight and Day premiere. Up and coming trend: prison chic?

The Fashionable Man

While sifting through this season's eclectic menswear collections, one thing kept running through my mind: innovation versus pragmatism. As I looked at the costume quality of Agnes B and the plunging necklines of Dior Homme, I wondered how many men would actually wear this. I know that my boyfriend, or any other male that I know would probably never wear some of these creations. But at the same time, I know that none of these collections are "uncalled for" or "inappropriate". On the contrary, I believe that majority of these collections are relevant and fun. I believe it takes a certain man to defy all concepts of what defines masculinity and embrace the art of being chic and fabulous. A fashionable man should not be deemed girly, but they are really fearless and filled with imagination: they have perspective and are not afraid to show it. To add to my current fascination with menswear, I have compiled a list of being a "Fashionable Man". It's also a perfect way to have a nice menswear round up. Killing two birds with one stone...PERFECT! Anyways, on with the list!

You Know You're a Fashionable Man When...

• you can fearlessly strut down the street looking like a Ken doll who's dressed up as a business man.
• color does not scare you.
• an undershirt is not necessary
• you are not afraid of the "man-bag"
• you can wear a skinny pant with pride.
• short-shorts don't make you feel any less masculine.
• you can be edgy AND preppy at the SAME TIME.
• you're not afraid to time travel a little bit.
• you can let out your inner feline.
• baggy pants don't make you feel Vanilla Ice

The Cocoon.

Chanel is without a doubt one of the greatest fashion houses of our time. Although it's rare, even the chicest people can commit a fashion crime. And Chanel did it with this bag from the Cocoon Collection. This collection contains a bunch of "sleek" handbags that are also reservable, ultimately sticking to Coco's original theory of interior and exterior luxury. What is so luxurious about this? Once upon a time, when I was obsessed with materialistic and unflattering Lacoste polos, I had a UGG bag that looked a little too much like this. I loved it back then because I thought it matched my UGG boots well...a little too well. I finally let go of that bag because, let's face it, it was ugly. I don't care if this has the Chanel logo, this is is NOT chic and NOT pretty. Personally, I feel like this is just some kind of scheme to get money, no offense Chanel. I don't care if Chanel deems this chic, I am not falling for it! If Chanel jumped off a bridge, would you? Stupid question...because we ALL would. But not for this bag!

Model Behavior

While flipping through today's newspapers, something caught my eye on the cover of The Journal News. Obviously, it was something about fashion. I then continued to learn about an emerging trend that I am extremely excited about: models that depict a real woman! For countless years and runway shows, we have been bored with the same rail thin models strutting down the runway. I personally wonder how they are able to walk under hot lights, in super high heels, without collapsing. We deem them as "chic", but what's so "chic" about looking hungry all of the time? I have absolutely no upper body, but I am almost confident that I could snap any of those models! All I need to say is THANK GOD the fashion world is starting to incorporate REAL women into their shows and campaigns. Although I have moments of teenage self-consciousness, I am fairly comfortable with my body. But to be brutally honest, fashion magazines can occasionally make me feel like I need to be a double 0. And I'm sure I'm not alone. The fact of the matter is, not all fashionistas are thin as angel hair spaghetti (not like they would eat it...). I think chic is NOT synonymous with skinny: I think it is having a good eye for fashion and confidence, regardless of weight. In the fashion house's most recent runway show, Louis Vuitton had healthy models, resembling Scarlet Johansson! It was so refreshing to see women the rest of the world can relate to! To me, it says that you can eat that slice of cake and look fabulous! So instead of stressing about being a model, just enjoy everything, even those oreos in your pantry!

Out With the Old, In With the New...

I lost my blogging virginity to "Peace, Love, Couture", which can be viewed at http://kmulvs.wordpress.com. Like the movie, this affair was also something to remember: forty-two blog posts about runways, red carpets, and generally all things fabulous. Unfortunately, my first blog and I had to part for irreconcilable differences: my blogging site was holding me back from expanding my audience and creating the best blog I possibly could. Consequently, I have moved to "blogger" and "Miss Chic" was born. In my mind, "Miss Chic's Guide to All Things Fabulous", we shall just call it "Miss Chic's", exemplifies a solidified blog: I was never content was the title or layout of "Peace,Love, Couture", it all seemed too redundant and not personal. But with this blog, I am content and have created a new persona: behold Miss Chic herself. As much as I'd love to be a fashion big shot like Anna Wintour or Kelly Cutrone, I am not. I suppose I am a fashion "guru" in comparison to others, but I am still learning what my personal style is and finding the tools to becoming a true fashionista. Anyone can be a Miss Chic, in my mind. It is not a matter of sitting front row at Fashion Week, it is the drive, interest, and confidence to enrich your fashion "skills". Fashion is my passion and obsession, but I'm still learning about it and using my blog as a way to express myself. I promise to make it fun and exciting, not some unimodal piece of junk. I hope that my readers, aka you, will enjoy what I have to say and learn a thing or two about fashion. What I'm trying to say is WELCOME TO MY BLOG; let's strap on our favorite heels and become the best fashionistas we can be!
