Allow Me to Slip into Something More Comfortable

Can you believe that spring is finally here? It feels like just yesterday I was bundling up in a plethora of layers. There are so many awesome trends to try this season, so expect a lot of fashion photo shoots starring yours truly. A couple weeks ago, my mother and I dominated Newbury Street in Boston. As always, Urban Outfitters was the first stop. I snagged a bunch of pieces that I cannot wait to wear, including the pieces from the shoot. I'm trying something new this sunny season. Previously, spring always meant "funky bohemian." This time, I'm all about stunning silhouettes and pops of color. Since I'm inevitably urban, I decided to start this season off with a effortless,black dress.

I'm all about the asymmetrical hemline lately. The mullet train can be either dressed up or down. For this shoot, I took a mid-range approach by rocking super casual flat-forms.

Say what you will, but I'm obsessed with flat-forms. In my mind, these bad boys are the happy medium: the height and forwardness of heels and the comfort of flats. The floral print gives this ensemble that oh-so necessary burst of color. J'adore.

Aren't these sunnies absolutely everything? My mom got them for me as an Easter present and I've been head-over-heels in love with them ever since. The mod roundness works perfectly with the whimsy sunglass arms.

I love the slinkiness of this dress. It's so comfy and gives off a lingerie feeling without being too risque. 

Who doesn't love stacking bracelets during the summer. I officially am double stacking- let's see how high I can go this summer! 

This ensemble is simple enough that it can be recreated in so many ways. Not feeling the mullet hem? Rocking a maxi dress has a similar, glamorous effect. Not a dress kind of girl? Try an asymmetrical skirt! For an effortless look, nix the necklace and pile those bracelets and rings! As for the flat-forms, expect a flat-form post in the very near future.

The Weekly: She Let Me Wear My Chain and My Turtleneck Sweater

 First thing's first: Your favorite Trendologist (I'm really happy with this new name) is going to FASHION WEEK. I am so excited; it's a dream come true and I cannot wait to blog about it. New York, here I come, in a weekish!

Anyways...I've seen a really awesome coat trend on the streets of Boston: toggle coats. 

I don't have one, but I think it's an absolute must for the upcoming months. What I like about these toggle coats is that they are the perfect medium;  they're not too heavy, like a good eskimo coat, but not too light, like a simple sweater.

And the toggles make the jacket look so refined and chic. In addition, they look fabulous on boys and girls. I remember wishing my boyfriend purchased a toggle coat in London. It didn't happen but a girl can dream, right?

I'm loving this toggle coat from Urban; the uber fitted look is really interesting and unexpected when paired with the toggle closing.  A plain white tee, jeans, some sick Ray-Bans  and some riding boots would make this a casual and enviable look for anyone.

  I love this Ralph Lauren one too! The combination of red, black, and tan is so refreshing! Unlike the Urban one, this is way more traditional in length.

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS!! Cape+toggles= nothing's better than this. The tan and brown is so ethereal and I love love LOVE the fringe on the bottom.

This sweater is also the perfect take on the trend if you want to save a few bucks. The crisp white looks awesome with the fur lining on the hood, which is so fierce.

That was some good fun...now onto the weeklies! 

The looks were really disappointing this week, but I have a few.

• Jennifer Lopez strutting (Haute Hippie and Louboutins): I'm so smitten with this look; I've never really seen a tan and silver combination before, but I'm a fan.  If you look at it really closely, the whole is actually quite sloppy; however, it has the ability to look tre chic and really put together. HOW DOES SHE DO IT? I also love how the sparkles is this look isn't too in-your-face. She looks like goddess, which apparently she's the new ambassador to Venus razors? Hmmmm...
• Helena Bonham Carter at the Santa Barbara Film Festival (I-wish-I-knew): What I love about this look is how she looks both eclectic and put together. And the shoes match (she's going to get a lot of that for a very long time). The natural makeup with the black outfit is also really chic and clean. Yes, clean.

When it's Time for Change

So today, I got really bored with the layout and title of this blog. As much as "Purses, Shoes, Couture...Oh My!" was fun, it was too wordy. 

When people asked about my blog's name, I would HATE saying the title because it was so long; who'd remember it.

So here it is:

The Trendologist.

Clean, simple, and fun. 

This semester, I'm taking sociology, which I seem to be enjoying.

In this lovely class, we learn about the behavior and influences of society.

That got me thinking...wouldn't it be great if there was a class studying the behavior and influences of fashions and trends?

Like Trendology?

What if one day, people could become Trendologists?

Different name, different look, same blogging fun!

Anyways, I was actually hoping to write a blog post instead of giving it a make-over so here we go!

I'm extremely over the winter. I remember back in November, I was so excited for snow. Now I'm over it.
I want bright colors and florals again!

And I especially want these:

Is there a better way to put spring in shoe-form?

What I love about these:  The shoe only comes in fashion's newest black: white. Wedges are not only chic, but they're easy on the feet and the heel is not that extreme anyways. The thick straps is so right on and right now.

As much as I hate minimalism, I know that it is unavoidable. I tried to be minimalist a few days ago, then I threw on a houndstooth skirt and it was back to my usual sense of style.

But I think that non-minimalist can embrace the trend (a la these) without losing who we are.

Here's my game plan: these shoes, a light printed dress, or a maxi loaded with fun bangles, or a shorts and tee combo with a fabulous cardigan.

...okay, maybe all of these look suggest I'm having a retro moment...but maybe that's true...

Urban is My Weakness

Yes, there I said it: I have a problem with Urban Outfitters. Don't worry, there's no beefage, I'm just obsessed with the store. No surprise, everything is so chic/glam/hipster- how could you NOT like it! I went shopping a week ago, got some pretty stellar clothes. And just today, I ordered a quilt, shams, and a beret on sale.  I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH! The whole look in currently into is prints galore: stripes, florals, plaids, PRINTS EVERYWHERE!! And interesting zips and other clasps are all the rage, too! No wonder I got prints with AWESOME attachments!

Hook and Eye and Florals? What could be better?

Mixing and matching these two prints created an outfit that I LOOOVE!

The Weekly: The Fashion Depression

This week, I was having a wee bit of a fashion depression.




Don't worry, this is not the same as an actual depression, but it isn't much fun. You know when you look at your closet and you just don't know? Like, when you lose your styling mojo and you opt for something decent but not amazing. That's what I've been experiencing. I've been trying to cure it all week, watching  The Rachel Zoe Project a plethora of times, reading the latest issue of Vogue , and even falling asleep to The September Issue last night. But there is not thing that can fix this issue more than a good 'ol trip to a store. In this case: Urban Outfitters. Although I only bought one presh skirt, it was SO refreshing to be surrounded by new and exciting clothes again.


I didn't take any pictures of interesting things this weekend but I saw this picture this week and I lol-ed.

Now onto the weekly! A pretty good week in the land of fabulousity, if I do say so myself!

• Nicole Kidman at Omega Watch Event (Lanvin): Really, can this woman do wrong? I remember many award shows ago, someone said that she can genuinely pull anything off. Not like this Lanvin is "hard to pull of", but she seriously looks heavenly. I love the white with her red hair, such a beautiful color combination.  The halter neck in addition to the cinched waist is so classic but not overdone. I love Grecian goddess looks, always, and Nicole works it so well. I'm glad that the Dolce & Gabbana shoes were a rather muted color: Nicole's fashionable but not always a risk taker. And the gold bangles?! PERFECT! While several silver pieces hold sentimental value and importance in my mind, I'm really starting to LOVE gold. A flawless look, once again!
• The Kardashian Sisters at the NYC Dash Opening (varied designers): I'm not going to lie, I love Keeping Up With the Kardashians. It's so fun and ADDICTING!! Although I don't always agree with their fashion choices, these girls looked so stunning. The overall theme of black showed unity but they all tapped into their personal styles. I love long sleeved dresses and sparkles so obviously I loved Kim's ensembles, especially paired with that sort-of-really-fabulous red sole. It hugged her body, but in the RIGHT way. Khloe also looked so chic: her dress was understated but so classy. The small details, however, made it look awesome: her hoops were so cool and the belt showed that she put effort into the dress. But definitely my favorite outfit of the three was Kourtney. I LOVED this: so sophisticated and I LOVED how she experimented with different silhouettes! Since she's a mommy now, I respect that she can keep it classy. The leopard shoes gave it some edge and it was so New York in my mind! Although I would've opted for different earrings and maybe a different hair-do, she still looked incredible! Three cheers for the Kardashians!
• Tina Fey at the NYC Megamind premiere (Andy &Debb): Love it or hate it, I'm giving Tina BIG props for trying to move out of her fashion bubble: she's taking risks and that goes far with me! Personally, it was a major success! I love the silhouette and the geometric print: so mod which is something I'm really interested in right now! The accessories were a little minimal, but I think it works best for this look: simple and chic. She's gotta start somewhere if she's gonna be a fashionista! 
• Anne Hathaway at the LA Premiere of Love and Other Drugs (Antonio Berardi): First of all, I REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE/ AM VERY ENVIOUS OF ANNE'S HAIR IN SAID MOVIE. I have such a middle school crush on Jake Gyllenhaal, but who doesn't? Although some might not like these "napkin accessories", I love it: how classy Gaga is it?! I like how this white dress has more of a two tone thing going on, which makes it exciting! I think it's rather simple, but it looks great!  I kind of wish she had different shoes though, the color works but I'm not crazy with the peep-toe.
• Carrie Mulligan at BAFTA Brittania Awards (Preen): Ugh Carrie Mulligan, stop creeping on me with you resentfully amazing style. Seriously. I love love LOVE the hemline of this dress: so flattering on the calf, so classy, and so trendy. I'm a fan. And there's this difference in texture which I'm really loving. But what makes this outfit incredible is the electric blue YSL pumps: those pumps gave it the wow factor and gave what would be a plain look some pizazz. Now if only she stopped looking so miserable...

Shopping Spree.

Today Yesterday, my mom and I went on a lovely shopping spree to Soho. As a combination of me getting new clothes and my recent birthday, I do have to say that I'm getting a good start. Granted, I need to get shoes and more accessories, but oh well. There's time for that!

I am typically very disappointed with the Topshop in New York (I should definitely blog about that at some point). ONLY TWO DRESSES?! In London, I usually drop major pound-age. But no, just two...dresses. I love them both, and I think with the right accessories they can transfer to fall. They're both so nostalgic, in my mind. Like...where are my little Mary Janes and lunch box?

I love the dual fabrics. My mom asked me "where the hoe-down was" when I showed her this. She was later jealous.

I love Hudson jeans: I have black jeans so obviously I needed dark wash. I was going to get jeggings...but it was too scary.

LOVE. This is kind of like a statement necklace I was talking about a few posts ago. How good would this be with a big comfy sweater?!

Two lovely pictures from Urban Outfitters. I've always wanted a maxi dress and guess who has a new maxi dress?! ME. And the jacket is so utilitarian and now. They'd go wonderfully together!

MY FAVORITE PURCHASES. New Ray Bans and and awesome hat from Urban. They're nothing like I've had before which is EXACTLY what I wanted. They're so street style, personal, and the perfect ingredient for an unique outfit. Obsessed.

Of course I got other things but these pictures came out best ;)
