The Weekly: Manolo and More

So this week was lovely. I kind of sort of met Manolo Blahnik...yeah..that's right...IT WAS AWESOME! When I was at the Copley Shopping Center last weekend, I saw a sign that changed my life: "Personal Appearance of Manolo Blahnik". I almost died. So yesterday, I hopped on the T and trekked all the way to Neiman Marcus. Women of all shapes, sizes, and styles, came to see the shoe genius.  I waited in line for maybe a little over an hour and then it happened. I met Manolo. It was the COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD. I got picz and an autograph and I was in heaven. There were these Manolo Blahnik books for sale, but they were sold out. I told Manolo this and he apologized to me. Single handedly best experience.

ONTO THE WEEKLY! 

• Sarah Jessica Parker at Burberry: I loooove this. I think her monotone look for some reason works so well. So many textures!! And it's so appropriate for the Burberry Show: the military inspired jacket was so London. I think the edginess of the brown ensemble worked so well with such a soft pink handbag. It was much better than that ugly wardrobe on SATC 2.
• Cat Deeley at Burberry: Where to begin? She looks like the epitome of cool: I love the stealth black pants and the...MILITARY JACKET! Usually, I really don't like when people belt short shirts or jackets: it looks too weird to me. But this looks AWESOME. I think this works well because the belt hit right where the buttons stopped. And I love me some black booties! Her outfit looked so structure, yet her hair was so tousled and wild.  Perfect mix. I adore it.
• Reese Witherspoon at the Livestrong Benefit: So I know that this look isn't quite versatile, but I think that she looks amazing. The jacket and dress combination was very business, but the shoes are so sexy. She never ceases to fresh and youthful. I just looove her!

The Power of Red

First of all, I'm really sorry this blog is all over the place! I feel really guilty for not blogging in a while and am going off on a tangent, so bear with me! I just came back from college-ing and fell even more in love with the university I'll be attending come fall.I stocked up on my school apparel, and obviously red was one of the colors. I've always thought that red was such a great color: it was flattering, powerful,sexy, glamorous. Just like Christian Louboutin soles. I discussed the Louboutin/collaboration in my former blog, but I have never exactly analyzed how amazing Christian Louboutin is in my blog: he is honestly a genius.He knows exactly what a woman wants: comfort, appeal, and recognition. And his shoes do just that. I hope to have a whole closet of Louboutin heels when I grow up; I have already started my collection (a chartreuse leather wedge: they are comfortable and make my legs look great)! I love how he can create fun and sexy shoes in different heights and silhouettes. Of course we all love our stilettos, but there's only so much of it we can take! I've always found his inspiration so interesting: showgirls. As classy as we all love to say we are, I just know that everyone secretly wishes they danced in sequins and sparkles. But Louboutin can make shoes that are classy and fun at the same time! And the red sole was genius. It was unprecedented but the smartest thing. Women love feeling empowered as they strut down the street, with their red sole peeking out during each step. And it furthers Louboutin's brand! You know how people brought back the "Volkswagen punches", I think there should be "Louboutin punches" whenever somebody spots the red sole! Good plan? Whenever people think of high fashion heels, I feel like Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik (thank you, Carrie Bradshaw) are the first brands to come to mind. But I really feel like, no offense to the other two (you have my complete love and admiration as well), Christian Louboutin is where it's at. I think we all need to start paying attention to him, his shoes, and the iconic red sole!

A True Inspiration

I never consider myself a true fashionista: I call myself an aspiring fashionista. As a fashion queens in training, we are constantly trying to improve our style. Sometimes, we need an extra boost to enrich our passion and knowledge .On my British holiday, I sound quite English saying that, I found the perfect thing to inspire even the most self sufficient style queen: The Fashion exhibit at the Victoria and Albert. After acquiring knowledge about this exhibit, I anxiously awaited seeing it. While the Reinssance sculptures and artifacts were more than impressive, I was blown away by the fashion exhibit. Countless designers were in this collection, Yves Saint Laurent,Catherine Walker, Manolo Blahnik, Vivienne Westwood (who I learned is kinda a big deal in London), Christian Lacroix, as well as eighteenth century designers. Of course, a dress by the late and great Alexander McQueen was glorified as the dress of the year. It was truly inspiring to see fashion's transformation; I consequently wanted to study more about designers and time periods. Ultimately, I wanted to try my hardest to become a real fashionista. The earlier designs were so intricate, and fancy, which made me oddly long for the days of petticoats and chivalry...not like I ever experienced them! My absolute favorite piece was Jean Patou's elegant, yet casual, evening gown (pictured). It was a combination of everything I love: the silhouette and gold belt portrayed a vintage glamour and the shimmer exuded a whimsical femininity. Before this exhibit, I never knew who Jean Patou was. Then I a rather obvious epiphany: I need to research the obscure designers, not just Karl, Diana, and Donatella . If Jean Patou can pull of this amazing work, just think about what less famous designers can do! Although style is mainly about intuition and editing, we need to study it too!
