A Mistake

After spending a weekend in the glorious Montauk area, I finally got to see Sex and the City 2 (SATC 2) with two of my friends. Although many of my other friends have expressed their discontent with the sequel, we still wanted to see it...and almost wanted to leave. It was absolutely terrible: the plot was...well there was no plot, the characterization of our favorite four was completely off (since when does Charlotte get CRAZY obsessive and Miranda is the peppy one? WRONG),majority of it wasn't even in the City (Sex and ...the Desert?) it was all too cheesy and didn't have that sophisticated wit we all know and love. WHAT IS THIS?! But you would think that this terrible TERRIBLE movie would have AMAZING clothes that we aspiring fashionistas would toss and turn over...I mean... Pat Field is a genius when it comes to costuming Carrie, Charolette, Samantha, and Miranda, right? WRONG! WHAT HAPPENED, PATTY POO?! Everything was either TOO basic or just TOO ugly. Of course, Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, had the best fashionista opportunities - they were all really boring. And that stupid clover necklace she always wore pissed me off TOO MUCH. Usually, Pat Fields dresses the ladies up in sophisticated, unique, AND classy ways I saw NONE of this in the movie: everything was expected, boring, or ugly! I envied nothing. And that's what bothered me MOST about the movie. So instead of HATING Sex and the City ... let's remember the good times...or we can try.

Minnelli: "Losing My Mind"...are you really?

Along with the rest of the female population, I am VERY excited for Sex and the City 2: I wish I could go to the midnight showing but Saturday is the big day (so a blog about it will OBVIOUSLY follow). I just am anticipating everything: the fashion, the plot, the fashion, the characters, the fashion, the return of Aidan (one of my favorite boys, OBVI), the fashion...I'm really excited for the fashion if you couldn't guess. Of course there are many celebrities who make fun cameos in the sequel: Miley Cyrus, Tim Gunn....and....Liza Minnelli. While the first two are credited with a keen sense of style and usually impeccable choices, Liza Minnelli- thanks to the picture you currently avoiding like the plague- does not. My question is...WHERE'S PAT FIELD TO SAVE THE DAY?! THAT WOMAN HAS REMARKABLE STYLING STRATEGIES, WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE WORKED YOUR MAGIC ON MS. MINNELLI?! I am completely honest when I say that my jaw dropped and I was SPEECHLESS when I saw this. I think it's very funny that Daily Mail mentioned who other celebrities were wearing but NOT Minnelli! Coincidence? I think not!! The only word I can use to describe this is AWFUL. So bad. It's as if she wanted to be in Mama Mia but failed. Although fashion's beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this borderlines social decency...just kidding...it passes that line...There is no excuse for this. Cover up, Minnelli.

Breaking out the Band

So today I premiered a new headband (please view your left): my mom and I saw this a few weeks ago and decided that it was imperative that I owned it. It was so fun, unique, and springy. I was very excited, a wee bit nervous, to wear this headband to school: my jean vest combination could've made me easily mistaken for a Carrie Bradshaw 1980's wanna-be or a trailer home momma. But I loved it. For the record, I don't believe I resembled that scary model. I'm not going to lie, I did get some really odd looks. One man today at work said that he liked "the thing on my head" in a mocking tone. I was not really feeling it...but I assumed that they were all just jealous. Doesn't everyone want to had an amazing headband to rock? I think so... To me, a headband is the perfect accessory to have: it's not as outfit-consuming as a hat but it can solve a bad hair day. Also, they're so much fun: girly but edgy enough to make a statement. I could go on and on about Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf and all of her headbands, but I am personally traumatized by last week's season finale and she went a little toooo overboard with the headbands.I believe the key is to accessorize with pragmatism. That being said, here are some fun headbands for all types of girls!

Here's to You, Mrs. Robinson...

So me and two of my friends have been on a movie marathon frenzy lately. Every Saturday for two, almost three, weeks have been filled with movies, laughs, and the inevitable trip to the diner. This past Saturday, we all cozied up together and watched The Graduate. None of us have ever seen it, but we were curious and felt it was quite necessary. I really did like it!! The era, the concept, the famous "Mrs. Robinson" song by Simon & Garfunkel- so fabulous and so revolutionary!! My favorite part of the movie you ask? Mrs. Robinson. This movie actually made me want to become a cougar in my future. She was completely in control: she knew what she wanted and she so went for it! Although she seemed to be self- conscious when her daughter got in Ben's life, it is obvious that her "I am the shit" attitude exudes confidence. Love her. AND HER STYLE (here's the tie-in, folks) was awesome! She dresses magnificently. I don't want to annoy anyone with all of the occasions she dressed magnificently, so just see the movie. IT WAS JUST AWESOME! As I frequently reflect on her style, I realized that her style is not far off from things many people wear today. Black, fur coats, more black- TIMELESS CLASSICS. She's sexy, glamorous, and classy. Isn't that what we all want? ...I think so...

I gathered some pieces from my closet that I though best portrayed this cinematic legend. Yves Saint Laurent, Aqua, Victoria's Secret...anyone can become the next Mrs. Robinson! Just look for a young, sexy boy to seduce...

Aaaaaaaannnnnd Cut.

Although I occasionally like the technology boom, the nostalgic in me gets upset with the way things used to be before Facebook, iTunes, and DVD players. Things were so simple and so carefree. Unfortunately, the fashion world is taking a turn for the technological advanced. Now, look books have turned into video clips. While I find the artistic collaboration of film and fashion quite interesting, I personally don't like it as a look book. I personally find a look book's prime purpose is to show off a designer's collection. I think that these films are a great way to advertise a film director and collection, but this SHOULDN'T be the first "how-do-you-do"!! Yes, it tells a story buuut the story contains 60% of scenic or up close and personal shots, as seen in Dace Fall Winter 2010. I mean I liked the very Tim Burton feminine eerie vibe I got from "Spell"... I don't know, this just isn't my thing. I love creativity but, call me old-fashioned, I think a look book should remain true to it's roots. But then again...maybe I need to start seeing things through a more artistic lens. Or maybe they should be more like Dace Spring Summer 2010: artistic and pragmatic. I guess it's not so much of me disliking them, it's more of me having mixed opinions. But that's the thing about fashion: it is a heterogenous blend of emotions and feelings.

Chanel Resort.

In regards to change in my daily life, I am absolutely not a fan. I tend to be a very nostalgic person, constantly craving the "good 'ol days". But to my surprise, I was actually content with Chanel's 2011 Resort Show. Whenever I, and I'm sure many other aspiring fashionistas, think of Chanel, a very set image comes to mind: tiny jackets, tweed, some lace, pearls, and a lot of Chanel necklaces. This show, however, was NOTHING like that! Well...maybe I over exaggerated when saying NOTHING, but really- it was so different!! There was such a Boho chic vibe from this runway: bright colors, paisley, loose fitting gear...WHAT IS THIS?! When thinking about Chanel's resort show, I kind of thought that it would be a kind of edgy nautical look throughout the show. This is NOT the Fashion House created by the one and only Coco...is it? But oddly enough, I did really like it: I'm a very indecisive person and what could be better than a slightly indecisive line? I don't think it was a cohesive collection (shear paisley shirts and plaid pink dresses don't seem to be uberly unified), but, and this is where it gets odd, I think it represented a woman's closet. A real person wouldn't have clothes filled with the same pattern, piping, and material (unless you're Arnold from "Hey Arnold"...completely different situation)! What I liked most about this collection was that not everything in here looked Chanel. Sure there were a good amount of tweed jackets, but the simplicity of the white belted outfits shouted a different designer's name, I was thinking maybe Calvin Klein or Donna Karan? Without trying to sound too cliche, I easily wanted everything in this collection. Ever since I saw the movie Nine, I've been infatuated with the whole psychedelic/mod look, thanks to Kate Hudon's "Cinema Italiano" and am ultimately trying to, slowly but surely, infuse that into my own look. As I finished looking through the collection, I learned that change can actually good; I was really glad that Chanel broke away from its prim and proper reputation and lived life on the psychedelic side!
