In the midst of frantically studying for midterms, I have been keeping up with my fashion news. Fashion week in Paris?! Loving it so far! But that needs its own post. But this one article made me so upset. If you don't want to read it all, basically technology is taking over fashion. IT'S NOT FAIR. I just think it's really upsetting how a video could even be the slightest alternative to a runway. Never...
I will admit that this gives the show a very artistic perspective and it is cool, but one of the most crucial aspects of a fashion show, in my personal opinion, is to see the clothes live and breathe. It's kind of like when you see a celebrity in a movie versus seeing a celebrity in person. For example, seeing Michael Buble's music videos is much different, and inferior, to seeing him in person...

Not like I've ever been to fashion show (...), but seeing those pieces of art in person allow us to know that they're real. And also, the Gareth Pugh video seemed to place a lot of emphasis on the multiple models, and camera angles. While a fashion show has many other components, there's only one crucial aspect: the FASHION.
I should be going to bed now, but I just thought I would make it clear that I'm NOT a fan of this new form. TOO MUCH MEDIA CONVERGENCE (there I go, applying what I learn in COM 101 to my blog).
I should also mention that my dorm had a fire drill at 12:45 AM a few nights ago...I was so upset, I wore my faux fur vest with my pajamas. I thought it was a fire drill must!
So first week at college has been fuuuun. I'm currently in preparation for a JUNGLE THEMED PARTY so obvi, I pulled out the fur and cheetah that I brought with me. I just think that themed parties are the best idea EVER. They just seem like such a good mix of creativity and fashion and FUN! Love love love! Anyways, on to the weekly looks! I just need to say that Jessica Alba has been owning it this week. LOVE HER. So yeah...here they are!!
Oscar de la Renta (Resort 2011): This is so nostalgic to the summer but I love all of the different patterns: they work so well together. And the yellow and blue color scheme?! LOVE. I think the beauty of this outfit is that separate, they'd be beautiful. But they are just so unexpected together but for some reason, it works.
Jessica Alba at "The Late Show": A lot of people don't like this look, but I personally do. I think it's feminine and cute. The strong strapped shoes add a sense of masculinity to the ensemble. She's been having so many moments for Machete...I've never heard of the movie.
Jessica Alba at Venice Machete Premiere: I don't know if I love or hate this dress but I'm thoroughly intoxicated with it. It's just so interesting and quite unique. I'm personally loving the dress but the shoes? Not so much! The asymmetrical skirt, however, is so right on and I think it's interesting it's in brown. I know I didn't like brown dresses come Emmy time but ...it's Jessica Alba!!
Natalie Portman at Venice Film Festival: Can I even describe how beautiful this dress is?! SHE LOOKED AMAZING! OH MY GOD SO BEAUTIFUL. The design was amazing and the red was so glam. It moved perfectly in the wind and was perfectly accessorized. The only bad thing I have to say is that I wish I wore it...but I can't even say that because Natalie is such a star!!
As I've said before, I love all things (erm...or at least most things) Louboutin. Sorry Blahnik and Choo, but I really believe that this shoe-maker is a genius.He's just so creative and, like I've also said before, the red sole is an absolute classic. So here I am, watching "The Box" with my sister, we are both only semi- pleased with this movieand it's absolutely pouring outside. So what do I do instead? Look at the Neiman Marcus fall shoe preview. A lot was quite expected: studded accents, leathers, and deepcolors. But I saw something so absurd and so random, it was impossible NOT to blog about it. Behold, the Louboutin "Toundra Bootie Fur". I find this shoe not only a fashion low point of Christian Louboutin, but just plain hysterical. I makes me feel like we went back to the ice age or to the ages of the vikings, hence the title. THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON LOUBOUTIN OR FUR. I do like my fur, but I'm not so sure how much I'd like it on my feet. This shoe kind of reminds me of that Flo Rida song. Is this why UGGs are such a fashion faux-pas? It's ironic because on the UGG website, boots with exterior fur are coincidentally placed under the "Fashion" category. I mean...I had those in the seventh grade..NBD. This makes me think, regardless on its authenticity, are people intimidated by fur? I owe a decent amount of faux fur, and every time I think about wearing it, a slew of reservations invade my head. Sometimes, I'll be a coward and save my fur for another day. But other times, I get the courage and wear said fur piece. I do have this absoluteseventies/fabulous oversized fur vest. I personally love it, but I think I was judged just a little bit when I wore it to school one day. Wearing fur for sport is relatively unknown, in my age group, so are people afraid of the unknown? I think in a world of people wearing sweatshirts, jeans, and American Apparel clothing, wearing something so bold (like fur) is just ridiculous, questionable, and weird. And maybe that's why I find these shoes so odd, because (to me) it never comes across my mind to wear overly furry shoes (except for my parents' snow shoes which are located right under this sentence...TADA). Maybe we should all be a little more open to fur. Maybe we shouldn't wince at fashion risks, wondering if it's appropriate for said event. And maybe, just maybe, we should seize any and all fashion opportunities and wear what we want (and be damn fabulous doing so).
So me and two of my friends have been on a movie marathon frenzy lately. Every Saturday for two, almost three, weeks have been filled with movies, laughs, and the inevitable trip to the diner. This past Saturday, we all cozied up together and watched The Graduate. None of us have ever seen it, but we were curious and felt it was quite necessary. I really did like it!! The era, the concept, the famous "Mrs. Robinson" song by Simon & Garfunkel- so fabulous and so revolutionary!! My favorite part of the movie you ask? Mrs. Robinson. This movie actually made me want to become a cougar in my future. She was completely in control: she knew what she wanted and she so went for it! Although she seemed to be self- conscious when her daughter got in Ben's life, it is obvious that her "I am the shit" attitude exudes confidence. Love her. AND HER STYLE (here's the tie-in, folks) was awesome! She dresses magnificently. I don't want to annoy anyone with all of the occasions she dressed magnificently, so just see the movie. IT WAS JUST AWESOME! As I frequently reflect on her style, I realized that her style is not far off from things many people wear today. Black, fur coats, more black- TIMELESS CLASSICS. She's sexy, glamorous, and classy. Isn't that what we all want? ...I think so...

Yesterday, I was laughing uncontrollably with my mom because, after calling for me a plethora of times, I finally responded to something that was not my name: Kesha. I find it so funny because I am nothing like the unworthy popstar. I'm sorry if anyone who reads this is obsessed with Kesha...but she's the biggest mess currently on the planet. Brushing your teeth with a bottle of Jack? You have a problem. But then I was thinking about her outfits and I can't express my hatred. Of course, I will try in this blog post. Way back at the 2010 Grammy Awards, she looked like a drunken Native American in that disgusting fringe dress (and I usually like fringe). There are some fashion forward elements that she incorporates into her outfits- fur, fringe, and sparkles- but she wears them wrong, even though fashion doesn't have a rule book set in stone. So if there are in fact no rules, how can she mess it up so badly? Consequently, Kesha, you proudly win the biggest mess award. I almost feel like she's a Gaga wannabe, which is almost shameful. She wears skeevy zebra unitards (please look above...if you dare), but it just looks so bad. Gaga can do it right because, as unique as she is, she is not messy. Also, she exudes confidence. Kesha exudes a bad hangover...THAT WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER END. It's not even mess, it's more like dirt and grime. It's gross. And she's even carrying her OWN disco-stick around?!? TOO MUCH, KESHA. Although fashion essentially has no rules,I think there are two things that's just common sense: confidence and cleanliness.Keep those two in mind, when you wake up feeling like P.Diddy, and maybe you'll get it right one day.
