Met Ball 2012

The Oscars is always a very bittersweet occasion for me. While I love the dialogue between movies and fashion, it's the end of award season. In short, it's the end of award season fashion. Thankfully, May brings us something that's a million times better than the Oscars- The Met Ball. The greatest designers, hottest celebrities, and most fantastic designs? Fash-gasm. Though I've been writing this post at a glacial pace, I'm so thrilled to share with you my best and worst dressed lists!

The Worst

Mary Kate Olsen in The Row: Even if I could tolerate the ill-fitted, uber matronly frock, the rest is absolutely horrific. First of all, the dainty bag simply does not work with the stealth frock. Juxtaposition that is neither cohesive nor conservational? No thank you. The makeup makes her look way too chiseled, which ultimately screams "bad trip to the Botox doctor." Last, but certainly not least, the hair. I'm all for quirky hair but this went past disheveled chic and straight to electrocuted freak. I love the Olsen sisters- even Elizabeth- and cherish them as style icons. Except for this occasion. Very, very wrong.  (Photo Cred)

Bruno Mars in Burberry: The suit is fine. I actually love the textured bow tie with the animalistic shoes. What I have a problem with is the hair. Big fashion faux pas. (Photo Cred)

Beyonce in Givenchy: Though this dress is very appropriate for the Met Ball, I just don't like it on Beyonce. She could've worn something more sophisticated or sexy. The purple feathers and lace gloves are a little...cheesy. Whenever I think of this Givenchy collection, I immediately go back to Zoe Saldana's purple moment
at the 2010 Academy Awards. Something is clearly wrong is Beyonce receives less attention than Zoe Saldana (that's just the way it is).(Photo Cred)

Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte: Captain America chic? I'm not feeling it. Instead of embracing her risky, ethereal fashion sense, Dunst opted for a matronly skirt suit. While this might look fabulous on Meryl (but then again, what doesn't?), it's too old for Kirsten. And too plain. I feel like she just rushed to the Met Ball from her Broadway debut. (Photo Cred)

Rachel Zoe in Rachel Zoe: Trust me, I'm not happy about this either. Though I think the fringe dress is genius, I hate the jewels with it. Not only is the statement necklace too bohemian for the Met Ball, it also looks weird with the dropped sleeve. It seems as if Rachel Zoe is too busy promoting her own line than gushing over beautiful pieces and styling stunning looks. I miss the good 'ol days. (Photo Cred)

Kristen Stewart in Balenciaga: No, absolutely not. First of all, patchwork is so 1996 it's not even funny. The placement of each color, fabric, and pattern is not flattering. Instead, Stewart looks a bit chunky. And those shoes? the opposite of chic- weird, creepy, and a mistake all around. Her hair and makeup is way too casual. This is the Met Ball, not Coachella! And no accessories? I'm traumatized. Obviously, I never expect fashion gold when Stewart walks on the red carpet, but this is a disgrace to everyone involved.(Photo Cred)

Shailene Woodley in Christopher Kane: Oh, make it stop! She used to be so chic...what happened? Not only is the print absolutely hideous, but the leather straps around the waist are unflattering. And no jewels? Seriously, what's going on here? (Photo Cred)

The Best

Rihanna in Tom Ford: How major is this ensemble? The sleek silhouette plus the croc skin equals perfection. The drop back and slit gives this fashion-forward dress a dash of sex appeal. Though I usually critique the red carpet tributes (Hunger Games reference) for not doning enough jewels, I love the lack of jewels with this dress- clean, raw, and overtly sexy.  Rooney Mara in Givenchy: Ladies and gent, Miss Mara is back! I'm obsessed with this ensemble. The lace skirt is super romantic while the daring asymmetry, shameless sheerness, and deep lip pushes the envelope. The slicked back hair balances off the fripperies of this ensemble. Didn't I say that she was a style icon of 2012? (Photo Cred)

Marina Rust in Vera Wang: So classic. I love the combination of the ruffles and soft gray. The soft makeup and romantic hair? Perfection. (Photo Cred)

Jessica Pare in L'Wren Scott:  Favorite golden girl! The gold metallics have this woven effect that I'm obsessed with. The statement earrings adds a glimmer of edge and sophistication. Pare subdues this uber glam look with feminine makeup. She's phenomenal!  (Photo Cred)

Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren Collection: Can we say gothic glam? Belle looks stunning in the plunging neckline and ornate details further this gothic vibe. She's sexy, sophisticated, and youthful at the same time. Plus, that dark lip is absolutely everything. (Photo Cred)

Candice Swaepoel in Rag & Bone: I dream of being David and Marcus'  muse. Not only am I completely jealous of Candice for attending the prestigious ball with the design geniuses, her ensemble is to die for. From the lace-embellished back, to the semi-masked slits, to the flattering dual tone design, this dress is flawless. To top it off, the braided ballerina knot exudes an edgy, feminine aesthetic. (Photo Cred)

Coco Rocha in Givenchy: Only Coco Rocha can rock this poppy Elizabeth Taylor original to the Met Ball. While most red carpet staples sport the typical ball gown, I love how Rocha stepped out from the pack and did something totally unexpected and original. The jeweled, paisley embellishments spice up this look so Rocha didn't look too casual. As for beauty, that pink hair is so funky and on-trend! (Photo Cred)

Gone are the day where Emma Roberts was only famous for being Julia Robert's niece...and star of the sub-par teen show, Unfabulous: she's officially a red carpet must. I love the sharp contrast between her pale skin and this bright mustard Escada. The relevant peplum and the thin belt gives this dress a contemporary twist. But don't write this look off as tween chic just yet- the old school hair is so regal and gives this look an elegant flare. (Photo Cred)

Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli; This is such a stellar red carpet moment. From the sleek silhouette to the juxtaposing black and white, this dress works perfectly with Adam's soft, orange waves and the bright red lip. The gilded bow belts dishes out a potent dose of avant garde chic. So major.(Photo Cred)

Renee Zellweger in Emilio Pucci: The Bridget Jones' Diary star said farewell to her typical Herrera gowns and surprised spectators with this fabulous Pucci dress. In my humble opinion, this is the best that Zellweger's looked in a long time. Between the sheer sleeves, sultry cutouts, and textured train Zellweger gets the Met Ball seal of approval. Fabulous!  The messy updo gives this dress some humility; however, the fantastic earrings perfect the transition from casual hair to a standout dress. (Photo Cred)

The SJP

There has been some...lively dialogue about Sarah Jessica Parker's Valentino ensemble. Some people love it, others hate it. People have even asked my opinion about this ensemble. Though I don't think this is her best, I do believe this ensemble upholds her style aesthetic as well as the Costume Institute's dress code. You're never going to see Sarah Jessica Parker in a typical starlet gown, which is something I adore about her. She's quirky, she takes risks, and always makes a statement. I Heart New York

You may be wondering why I haven't posted a blog about my fashion week expedition. Well, this season was different in the best way possible.  I was fortunate enough to attend not one, but three shows on behalf of Her Campus.  Hands down, the most epic week of my life so far! Want to read about my own experiences? Check out my reviews for Josie Natori,  Irina Shabayeva, and EMERGE!.

As for the ones that I didn't cover, I'm giving you my deepest, darkest thoughts about NYFW exclusively on The Trendologist. Dramatic, right? Well get ready.

RODARTE 

Call me crazy, but there's something very nostalgic about this collection. It seems like each look has a story behind the colors, cut, and pattern. Don't dub me "Crazy Fashion Girl" just yet: I'll show you where I'm coming from.  The super feminine silhouettes really accentuate the models' figures. This is something very reminiscent of the pin up girl era. The final dresses' movement and sleeves also remind me of something you'd see in the 1930's. This collection does not adhere to the industry's obsession with minimalism, which I think is great: fashion rules are only made to be broken! Along with these retro-inspired pieces, the Mulleavy sisters added hardcore pieces to give this collection some more relevance. (Photo Cred)

OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Without fail, Oscar de la Renta always give us fashion fanatics dainty, beautiful, and sophisticated pieces. In my mind, fall always calls for a mixture of colors and patterns. Thankfully, de la Renta gave us just that! Oscar's ability to mix up patterns, materials, and silhouettes while keeping the same aesthetic always amazes me. Whenever he designs, it's always obvious that he envisions a classy, Upper East Sider with a good eye wearing his pieces. Also, I always look forward to Oscar's evening  dresses. JASON WU

My love for Jason Wu is neither healthy nor comical. Season after season, I'm always wowed by Wu's ability to create  innovative collections. AW 2012 is no exception!  This collection was darker than his previous shows; however, I'm such an urban chick at heart so it was right up my alley. No matter how edgy his clothes may be, Wu's cinched waists  give that necessary dash of femininity. His play with fur is out of this world fabulous: fashion forward, exciting, and not too ridiculous. What I love most about Wu is that he loves to experiment with different silhouettes, fabrics, and prints. I cannot tell you how many collections make me feel as if I watched the same look walk down the runway forty times. In my mind, a cohesive and varied collection is always the best.   This collection is key because it shows us that Jason Wu is so much more than "the man behind Michelle Obama's dress."  (Photo Cred)

RAG & BONE

Sometimes, I look at all of the great things in my life and wonder what could possibly make it better. Well, my lovely readers: all I need is every single Rag & Bone piece ever created. I'm obsessed with the label's clean cuts and downtown chic aesthetic. Whenever I see something that slightly looks Rag & Bone- worthy, I go crazy. Though I wasn't a huge fan of their SS2012 collection- I'm not sporty enough- I'm obsessed with this collection. The mixed textures scream "this is how to look chic during the fall" to me. What's super interesting about this collection is that there's very minimal cohesion. Usually, a designer has a theme or two that they religiously stick to. The only theme I can see is "go on with your bad self." And isn't that everyone's philosophy when they wake up in the morning and get dressed?  With so many quirky prints and cuts, you might be wondering how someone can even wear this collection. As the show's fabulous collection teaches us, this collection stresses personal styling and quirky mixtures. In short, my new dream is to one day be David and Marcus' muse. TIBI

Since last year, Amy Smilovic's designer aesthetic has dramatically changed from cute cocktail dresses to minimalistic separates. What I love about Smilovic's take on minimalism is that she plays with texture and adds a plethora of gloss elements. Usually, I hate minimalism; however, I love this new spin on clean silhouettes and fripperies-less clothes. Can we also talk about the mid-calf pants? Major. (Photo Cred)

PRABAL GURUNG

Unlike many New York collection, Gurung's collection is all about show stopping pieces. From pops of cobalt blue to complex prints, the fall fashionista is all about getting noticed. Seriously, who needs minimalism when you can have iridescent sleeves? I'm totally with you, Prabal. Call me Goldmember because I'm obsessed with Gurung's use of the metallic :gold screams fall to me and I love how the collection's stylist paired gold pieces with warm colors. If you want to dress in Prabal Gurung's pieces, you have to be a sexy and fearless fashion: his clothes are not for the meak. Additionally, this collection evokes so many emotions: the introverted black ensembles provoke a sense of exclusion while the brights and metallics are motivating.     (Photo Cred)

BADGLEY MISCHKA

Nothing says "insta glamour" like metallics do. Unfortunately, metallics usually mean you're painting the town red and hitting up the hottest clubs. While that's all fun, I  do secretly wish that we can wear metallic during the day without that "walk of shame"connotation. Badgley Mischka's RTW collection gives us an answer to our prayers. By integrating metallics into everyday apparel, Badgley Mischka is making it socially appropriate to add some shimmer to our street style. Besides the use of metallics, this collection has a plethora of beautifully structured jackets. The use of cutouts so adds a dose of unapologetic fierceness. Each look demands attention without being overbearing.   (Photo Cred)

DEREK LAM

Without a doubt, I'm a complete girl's girl: I'm probably one of the most feminine people on the planet. However, I do love edgy and tough pieces. That puts me in a really big predicament: how am I supposed to dress? Derek Lam's A/W collection gives us a powerful mixture of harsh and frilly pieces. Lam's tiny floral prints and structured suits scream femininity; however, the sporty aspects gives this collection a bad girl side. In my mind, maxis are in all year around. The long sleeve, black maxi? So smitten. The juxtaposition in this creation makes it something that is truly ready to wear. (Photo Cred)

BAND OF OUTSIDERS 

 I tend to look at all of these fabulous collections and get upset. While I'm obviously obsessed with my favorite colletions, I  always get upset that- as a college chick-  I have nowhere to wear them.  Then there's Band of Outsiders. Unlike Badgley Mischka or Oscar de la Renta, Band of Outsiders give us young fashionistas something to really wear right now. There's an effortless versatility that comes with every single look that I'm borderline obsessed with. This collection is filled with a mix of statement clothes and minimalistic staples. The ambivalence in this collection makes it up to the consumer to express their personal style. (Photo Cred)

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG

How could you ever hate something DVF creates? Each look of this collection has a sense of wearability and fashion forwardness. Each look brought something new to the chic table. Also, the collection's versatility is out of this world amazing. While the collection is filled with fun prints, the silhouettes are simple enough to either dress up or down. As always,  Diane designs with a confident woman in mind.  (Photo Cred)

JILL STUART 

Okay, so I definitely have a girl crush on this collection. Each look literally blew me away because it encompassed everything I love. Long sleeved minis? Check. Beautifully executed jackets? Jill showcased many.  Provocative concepts? They were definitely present.  The mod-inspired turtle necks? Absolutely. Also, the prints and detailing was very reminiscent of something you'd find in a vintage store, which I love. Honestly, the only rhyme or reason that I'm so enamored with this collection is because I would literally wear all of it.  (Photo Cred)

RACHEL ZOE 

You should all know how much I idolize Rachel Zoe by now. Though I probably wouldn't do it myself, I  admire her new designer title. For someone as obsessed with fashion as Rachel, it's definitely a big feat to design. Unlike designing veterans, we get something different from her collection: versatile pieces that we can wear to a plethora of occasions.For example, the chunky sweater could be worn out with some booties and skinny jeans or to a poolside party with a maxi dress. This indigo, quasi plaid dress could be worn to the office or even on date night.  The whole "dress up or dress down" concept is a common theme in Rachel's collection. In fact, I think it's better portrayed in this collection than in more prestigious runway shows.  Also, I love her undying obsessed with maxis. The long, lace maxi skirt? No words. The Style Files: Perfection of Your Face Slows Me Down

So this week, my friends- especially my roommie- and I have been going CRAZY over Maroon 5. Specifically, "Never Gonna Leave This Bed." I'm borderline obsessed with the music video for three reasons:

1. Adam Levine is gorgeous.
2. The concept is adorable.
3. I love Wayfrarers on guys...yes that is one of my reasons.

STYLE-SPIRATION: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Recently, I've developed this theory that Justin Timberlake is the most perfect person...ever. Don't believe me? Well let's look at the facts: he's beautiful, 6'1 (according to my findings), can sing, can dance, can act, is extremely funny and successful. Did I mention he also has a killer sense of style. Yes ladies and gent, I'm continuing this boy crazy extravaganza with J.T. as this week's style-spiration. 

J.T. at the WilliamRast Spring 2007 RTW Show. Call me old fashion, but I cannot resist a guy in a sweater vest. Unless it's an old man who looks like he's up to no good.  I love how J.T. used the sweater vest a neutral and experiment with different patterns, as seen in the tie and button-down. While I'm not loving the vans, I love how Justin is never afraid to experiment with clothes. He is my dream man. (Photo Cred)

J.T at Cartier's 100th Anniversary. He looks...SO GOOD. I love this three piece suit: it's so classic, but edgy with his subtle scruff. The combination of grey and black makes this look funky and sophisticated. Ugh. Why can't I marry him? (Photo Cred)

 J.T. at the 2009 Met Ball in WilliamRast. HE EVEN DOES A FORMAL TUX BETTER THAN ANY GUY. SERIOUSLY, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?! The bow tie- lapel proportions are spot on and he looks uberchic. Those glasses make him look intellectual and trendy. Only man who reads this blog, listen up: THICK RIMMED GLASSES ARE A STYLE DO. I'm so glad he broke up with Jessica Biel. (Photo Cred)

THE WEEKLY

• Rachel Zoe at the Christian Dior show (I'm assuming Dior):  This look is perfect for Paris Fashion Week. The black and white is so flawlessly chic. While the white dress is pretty plain; however, the maxi factor, as well as the belt, gives the look some drama. And those sunglasses? Amazing. Haters gon' hate, but I idolize her.
• Lady Gaga at iHeartRadio (I want to know): I'm literally obsessed with this look, even though it's not very Gaga-esque. The costume jewels as well as the silhouette of this outfit make the look creative enough for Lady Gaga to wear. She looks so glamourous and chic. 
• Leighton Meester at Dior also (I'm assuming Dior as well): LOVE LOVE LOVE this LWD. The tiers on the dress make this look really girly; however, the pumps gave this look some edge. Her hair and makeup? So feminine and beautiful. I love this look.
• Miranda Kerr chilling in Paris (I don't have ay designers for this blog post): This is perfect Parisian street style. The toughness of the leather skirt and the softness of the shirt is the PERFECT juxtaposition. Her makeup is clean and feminine. This look is simple and all around glam.

The Sun is On My Side and Takes Me For a Ride

So let's talk resort.

I've always had this pre-conceived notion of resort being extremely French-Rivera, Pucci- esque, and all-around summertime glam. And thus far, I like what I'm seeing. From Elie Tahari, we got a sophisticated version of the Sex and the City 2 wardrobe. And, quite obviously, I loved Rachel Zoe's collection even though most of the models looked just like her... And Oscar, I love that man: he always knows how to create the most beautiful pieces.  I know this blog post won't be too pragmatic but I figured, since I wanted to blog a lot this summer and am finally home from a night out at a reasonable hour, Resort 2012 is so blog-worthy. So here are a few looks that I thought were beautiful and inspiring. 

Oscar de la Renta is a genius. I'm obsessed with this blush pink and silver combination. The florals and the short sleeves are so tea party resort. And deep down, who doesn't want a tea party? In love. (Photo Cred)

How perfect would this mini be for a rooftop cocktail party in the Meat Packing District? So perfect, is the correct answer. I've always been in love with jewel tones and this is obviously no exception. The ruffles at the bottom and the fitted top is so feminine and beautious. Ja'dore! (Photo Cred)

If you don't understand my love for fabulous furs by now,  maybe my love for this look will act as a slight reminder. LOVE FUR. A major look for this summer season is pairing neutrals with neons. I haven't tried it myself (maybe tomorrow, if I have neons...I'll blog about it), but I think this can be the epitome of summer chic if done correctly. I'm in love with these booties and I also love this look since it's not what I typically think of as resort. Even still, this Tahari look is fab. (Photo Cred)

Rachel Zoe Resort 2012. Absolutely in love with this dress. The deep blue reminds me of a chic pool party and that sexy silt makes it so resort/summer appropriate. Get me some fun bangles and wedges and I'm feeling a fabulous look! (Photo Cred)

My beyond fabulous friend invited me to the Hamptons next weekend and I've obviously already started planning my look for the vacation. Essentially, this: flowy, white, and luxe. This Tahari look is literally the epitome of what I'm looking for. Bravo (Photo Cred)


I don't think, and probably will never think, that resort is the equivalent to casual. 
For starters, I hated MaxMara's collection. It looked way too much like...you guessed it...boring minimalism. I thought this was resort, not typical Calvin Klein! While one could argue that these looks can act as "clean slates for fun summer accessories," I love interesting pieces.

I think what really makes a resort collection a success is purely the silhouettes. Sure, prints are fun (remember Louis Vuitton's Resort 2011 Collection? I do. And it was awesome); however, the shape of the dress makes the difference between a "cute outfit" and a "knockout look."  The humidity of the summer usually makes me really frustrated when it comes to dressing up: I always feel gross and then I consequently lose the motivation to dress my chicest. I hate to admit it, but it's true. Wearing an incredible silhouette solves half of the problem!  I'll definitely be keeping tabs on the rest of resort, but for now, I really want to go shopping!

Children of the Revolution

A few days ago, The Rachel Zoe Report  posted this really awesome guide for Boho Chic. Because this is  a look I'm trying to achieve more and more, I fell in love with this post. Consequently, I tried to emulate her style in my looks for this past weekend. So here's a look at my attempts to be Boho Chic.

I'm beyond obsessed with this hat, so retro! The Rebecca Taylor peasant blouse  was so righteous for this look. And my golden jewels added the perfect amount of glamour for my overall look. LOVED IT.

These sparkly earring are such a staple to my wardrobe; they add a hint of old school glamour but are versatile enough to wear with a plethora of different outfits. These can take me from "fifties retro housewife" to "hip boho chic."



I ended up wearing my cheetah print flats and my fringed vest (not pictured) to make the look more complex. A notorious minimalism opponent, I love making outfits more complex.  In my humble opinion, I think a complex outfit adheres more to who you are and your personal style.

I think a boho chic style can be easily accomplished. The key is creating a balance between flowy and tight fitting. While my peasant blouse wasn't fitted, my fringe vest gave me more of a figure. I also paired my flowy peasant blouse with black skinnies. And as for accessories? The more the better! I love how the seventies look allows budding fashionistas to pile on necklaces, scarves, bracelets, etc. Now you don't want to overdo it, but I think anyone who tries this look will know when they pushed the envelope a little too far.

For the moment, here's some of my favorite boho staples:

• A maxi skirt is a MUST. I love this skirt from Urban Outfitters: it's well priced, the print makes it more complex, and the sheer fabric makes it summer appropriate! 
• While you're buying the skirt at Urban, why don't you pick up a pair of these awesomely flared pants? For those who are intimidated by the bell-bottom trend, these pants are perfect: flare but not too much. And the front pockets are so vintage! 
• Playsuits are so Studio 54. The crocheted elements of this Aqua number makes the playsuit more casual and almost effortless, which I love!
• This maxi dress would look so boho chic with layers of necklaces and wedges!
• If I had this awesome vest, I'd pair it up with high waisted shorts to portray that retro vixen look!
• This cute little number has such a sick print,  how sick would this look with a brown bomber jacket?
• Free People is the definition of Boho Chic, in my mind. If you're ever in need of inspiration, hit up a Free People store or their website.

The Weekly: Don't Let This Man Open This Closet

Ever since I came across a certain post by "Everday Minerals", I've been obsessed with having a uber-glam and HUGE closet.  When I get married and become a successful something, a fabulous closet is the first thing on my "to-do" list. The second? Filling it up with fabulous finds!  But for now, I think it's crucial that we aspiring fashionistas should have some well organized and fabulous places for our clothes to rest, regardless of our closet size. 

When considering a make-over, finding inspiration is always step one.

Here are some of my favorite closets:

Carrie Bradshaw's Closet. Yes, I am a Sex and the City fanatic, I'm actually watching it right now! I'm obsessed with this closet  because...it's Carrie Bradshaw's! Although she doesn't have a huge closet, until Sex and the City: The Movie,  I think it's incredible how all of those fabulous clothes fit into a rather contained space. 

Mariah Carey's Closet. Remember when she gave us a tour on Cribs,  please watch this link above if you missed that episode, and every aspiring fashionista's jaw dropped? I do.  It wasn't a closet, but a department store. The organization was major  and I love the tiles and chandeliers. I like how it is well decoration AND the light wall and shelf color allows the clothes to really stand out.

Rachel Zoe's Studio Wardrobe. We all know that I want to be just like Rachel Zoe and I don't think anything could be better than being surrounded by clothes as you work. Heaven, right? I love how organized and, for lack of a better word, clean everything is.  That line up of shoes? Amazing.  I also love how the white walls and hardwood floor creates a zen environment for the clothes. And I bet her actual closet is even MORE insane...is that possible?

• Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at the CFDA Nomination Ceremony (The Row, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Manolo Blahnik): The chicest they've ever looked, there I said it. I love how they are both embracing their own sense of style but the juxtaposition of black and white (or a blush pink) create a cohesive look. I love how the yellow heel creates a dramatic but extremely fun pop of color to the silk blush (yes, I've decided it's blush) suit. And I the drama of a completely black outfit with an animal print clutch. Genius! Both of their hair and makeup are clean and work really well with their outfits. Enough of this baggy clothing, Olsens!
• Selena Gomez in NYC (Tibi): She looks absolutely fabulous. I love how youthful the silhouette is; act your age, not your shoe size!  The different textures of this skirt and shirt combination creates a youthful look.  I'm glad that she didn't experiment with a pop of color because the basic black and white allows us to focus on the incredible details.
• Anna Kendrick at a Rag&Bone and Intermix Party (Rag&Bone and Botkier  sandals): I'm obsessed with Rag&Bone lately and this outfit is so cool. Who wears colored jeans anymore, let alone rock them? Anna Kendrick, that's who! I love who cool and casual this look is. The green is the perfect pop of color to black and white look.  Since the rest of the outfit is rather plain, the green made this outfit look effortlessly chic. Her relaxed waves and natural makeup also made her look uber cool.
• Camila Alves at the SAME Rag&Bone and Intermix Party (Not Available): This is absolutely fabulous. Although they aren't very common, I'm obsessed with a great pantsuit. And this one is so unique because it's long sleeved and doesn't look like a worker's uniform. While I think a sleek ponytail would have looked awesome with the paintsuit, the soft curls are pretty incredible. AND THE LEOPARD HEELS?! Love  love love! It's so elegant, but edgy, but subtle. 
• Michelle Trachtenberg at the School of American Ballet Winter Ball (Marchesa): So smitten; she looks like an uber chic ice queen. The light color of the Marchesa  is such a dramatic, yet incredible, contrast to her black hair and dark nails. And I love how she added to the sparkled accents by wearing a sparkled clutch.  And in regards to the dress itself, I love how the bodice has this criss-cross of purple and sparkles. It is the perfect companion to the flowy skirt.

Do We Die?

So let's talk about Rachel Zoe's latest collection. Even though she's my career and fashion idol, I am truly torn about this collection.

For starters, I don't like how she posed with her models in her lookbook.

If she wants to be rolling with the top designers, she needs to have the people focus on the beauty of the clothes, instead of the designer.

Some pieces I really like, especially look four.

I really like how it stayed true to her fabulous bohemian look.

But other pieces, I believe, were trying to hard. And also, I love cohesiveness in a collection. From what I've seen, there isn't much cohesiveness here. I think that she could've focused on one idea and it would've been so much better.

But then maybe I am not understanding her target audience.

Maybe it wasn't supposed to be like a traditional fashion show, but a plethora of various looks that could work for a variety of people.

As for this copied dress scandal, I must stand up for Zoe. Are the pieces identical? Well...yes; however, I find it extremely hard to believe that somebody whose so enamored with the world of fashion to commit the top faux paus.

And, at the same time, plenty designers copy fashion houses for a more pleasant price tag. That happens all of the time after awards season. If people do not get wound up with that, why should Zoe be in boiling water?

But I definitely want to hear a statement from her!

I can never bash Rachel Zoe, nor would I want to, because I respect her as a stylist and a fashionista

but

I just miss the good 'ol days!

The Weekly: I Don't Need the Answers

Let's discuss Pre-Fall 2011.

Overall, I think it's a pretty good collection. There is an incredible amount of variety, from Erdem's bright prints for day dresses to Reem Acra's fabulous sparkles for cocktails and evening wear to Zac Posen's sleek and sexy silhouettes. Variety is great, but it doesn't give many hints with trends. So for my personal entertainment, here is my collaborative list of what's in.

For all of those people who believe minis are hip, knee-length skirts are totally in are now.

Black is the new black.

Who ever said pencil skirts were just for teachers?

Color-block, color-block, color-block.

Tall boots are necessary.

PETA may not be happy, but hints of fur are uber chic.

Donna Karan is life-changing.

Even when you think fashion is androgynous, a stunning evening gown is always essential.

Onto the Weekly! 

• Rachel Zoe shopping in Beverly Hills: As we all know, I want to be just like Rachel Zoe when I grow up, maybe I'll have a little bit more meat on my bones but you get the idea. Even while running measly errands, she looks absolutely fabulous. Who wears platform boots (Atwood?) whilst shopping AND pregnant. She's so gutsy. And black doesn't look gothic or inappropriate during the day; however, it looks so effortlessly chic. Do the shoulder have a feather embellishments?! I'm obsessed. I think she's also dressing very appropriate with being preggers and all, unlike some of her other clients; Kate Hudson, I'm sorry for insulting you. Zoe, on the other hand, she's shutting it down.
• Rachel Bilson at the Spike Video Game Awards (Dior/ Brian Atwood): What I admire most about Rachel Bilson's style is how low maintenance it is: she's so simple and effortless, which works for her. This blue works so well with her hair and complexion. Although the silhouette is rather simple, the complexity of the ruffles and mesh definitely jazzes it up. Also, wearing a nude pump  and minimal accessories was very smart of her. For the most party, I think Bilson dresses like a classy young lady.
• Katy Perry at the Change Begins Within Benefit (Issa): To me, Katy Perry is a toned down Lady Gaga; she has her fair share of crazy costumes! This dress for her, however, is perfect. She is showing off some of her originality while staying a classy Mrs. Russell Brand. She never really wears things that are long and does not show her boobs, so to have her wear a long and rather conservative dress is amazing. Also, her long hair looks amazing, for the record, I am a long hair fanatic.  I do with, however, she accessorized with more bracelets or even a stunning earring. Regardless, Katy Perry looks like a fashion firework (punny right?).
• Reese Witherspoon at the How Do You Know LA Premiere (Zac Posen): Similar to Rachel Bilson, Reese has such a classic style. To me, she's know boring but she's wise; she's been in the industry for a while therefore she knows what works and what is appropriate for her age. She's not trying to impress anyone with super tight minis. This Posen, for example, shows off her tiny waist but it's not sultry or anything. The pink feather effect is the perfect amount of trendy for Reese, because she's a mom at all. This look, like her overall look, is appealing because she's not trying to impress anyone. She just looks put together and it's fabulous! 

Bah-nan-nahs For Baby

RACHEL ZOE IS PREGNANT! I personally find this extremely exciting because I'm obsessed with Rachel Zoe. Now...where's my invite to the baby shower? Anyways...I thought this would be an extremely appropriate time to pick out what Baby Zoe will wear!

BABY RACHEL:

Baby Zoe would totally shut it down in this white toggled jacket (wee people).

I think it'd be absolutely presh if the baby girl was a mini Rachel Zoe. I'm talking BABY VINTAGE. Perhaps Brian Atwood will start making some baby shoes. Obviously, Baby Rachel would need some fabulous baby fur!

BABY BRAD (obvi NOT Baby Rodger):

Baby Zoe would totally rock this sweater (crew cuts).

So I think that Baby Brad should be a little Preppy McGee: sweaters, oxfords, vests, ties, the whole SHBANG!

Well, without a doubt, that will be one fabulous baby!

Costuming in Style

So as a sequel to this Halloween blogging extravaganza, I've decided to discuss some fabulous Halloween costumes worn by some of our favorite stars. I was thinking about it today and the concept of celebrities dressing up for Halloween is so weird: they are held in such high esteem that we don't think of them as regular people. And don't we dress up as celebrities for Halloween?! Like... I would totally dress up as Rachel Zoe or Audrey Hepburn someday. I think it's really awesome though how  enthusiastic some celebrities are about Halloween!  

HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVES.

I love Rachel Zoe, if you didn't realize yet, and I'm so happy to see her let loose and have some fun with her costume. The Indian Warrior look was fab for her and was a major difference from her trendy/ Boho/vintage look.

I am mildly obsessed with Modern Family and, more importantly, Rico Rodriguez: he is the cutest little boy ever and I love his Superman outfit.

And Joan Rivers as Snooki is absolutely hysterical! Personally, I think the Fashion Police host makes a fiercer Snooki buuut that's just my opinion.

You can't NOT admire the effort Heidi Klum puts into her costumes. I love ROBO- KLUM. It's so her and so much fun!
