8.30 What's Trendy?

Although I've been super busy with packing for Boston, I couldn't leave my chic committee hanging.

1. Alanis Morissette 

So apparently Alanis Morissette is making a comeback? A couple days ago, I woke up to the musical powerhouse singing "You Learn" on Good Morning America. Days later, the anthem is still stuck in my head. Let's throw on our cargo pants and crops tops for a "Jagged Little Pill" sing-a-long, shall we?

2. Liquid Lipstick

A few weeks ago, I was given a slew of fantastic beauty supplies. Perfume? Check. Glitter eyeliner? But of course. Liquid lipstick? Yes...wait, what? Well my delicious tastemakers, liquid lipstick is exactly what it sounds like. You put on this magical necessity as if you're applying lip gloss; however, your luscious lips are given a pop of color that only a lipstick can supply. So genius. I'm also pleased to report that this color stays on for hours.

3. Kate Hudson's Laid-back Gucci Look

Leave it to Kate Hudson, Hollywood's resident "Queen of Cool," to give a monochromatic Gucci  suit a boho-chic vibe at the 2012 Venice Film Festival. Though I'd nix the dainty necklace and tailor those pants , Hudson has the rest of the look down perfectly. To mix up the white-on-white ensemble, Kate adds the simple tan tank. With a pair of aves in hand, the nonchalant ensemble lives on. For the grand finale, Hudson comes equipped with her infamous relaxed waves and fresh makeup. This look is not perfect; however, I truly admire Kate for never losing sight of her aesthetic.

4. Nicole Richie's Texture Extravaganza

What does one wear to The Sunset Strip Music Festival, you ask?  Take a page from Nicole Richie's book and create a polished, yet funky, look with clashing textures. The fashion guru paired a soft Mulger top with an edgy leather Winter Kate skirt. Mixing and matching fabrics is a must for the upcoming season. Not only will your wardrobe suddenly have an array of options, but your outfits will have an added depth. On a completely different note, I also adore that colorful clutch!

5. Long, Long Trailer

I'm such a sucker for old school movies. Recently, I aided my nostalgia with Long, Long Trailer. But seriously, how could you resist Lucy's infectious comedy and Desi's adorable accent?  Not to mention  Lucy's ensembles are the epitome of 1950's glam. Polka dots, fabulous hats, calf-friendly hems...need I say more? Additionally, I'd like to call everyone's attention to the fact that this movie makes the seemingly impossible possible: apparently, trailers are glam!

The Style Files: Boy You Never Had Much Game

As much as I love teeny pop beats, I really do hate this song. Also, those grunts are pretty scary. However, I must admit this jam is trendy. Do me a favor: listen to this song and let me know if you can get it of your head. I personally cannot. Give me  a week and I'll probably be addicted.

Style Spiration: Jackie O

This weekend, I fostered a mild obsession for the Kennedy family. Not only was Jackie O a strong individual, but everyone is enamored with her style. To put it bluntly, she paved the way for 60's style. It's about time I give her the praise she deserves, don't you think?

Our girl knew how to accessorize. The camel wrap jacket acts as the perfect base for all these wonderful add-ons. Logistically, she's sporting a lot of accessories; however, they are not over-whelming because she keeps it all in the same color family. I love when people wear leopard. This goes beyond the fact that I too enjoy a nice ferocious print. In my mind, people wear leopard to get noticed: they're confident and aren't afraid of criticism. Sometimes leopard can look a little...trashy. But leave it to Jackie to give us something fiercely polished.(Photo Cred)

• Dakota Fanning at the American Film Institute (Gucci): Remember when Dakota Fanning was only 8 years old? You know, when she starred alongside Brittany Murphy in Uptown Girls. It's crazy to think that this former child star is just as relevant, not to mention super stylish, today. Everything about coral number is perfect: the subtle two-tone combination, the classic silhouette, the punchy black belt, and the modest V-neck work to create a cohesive look. This ensemble marks a perfect transition from Fanning's childhood style to a mature future. The simple accessories, hair, and makeup subdue the shocking coral.
• Zoe Saldana at the CFDA Awards (Prabal Gurung): Let's be honest: anything that brings Zoe Saldana and Prabal Gurung together is automatically deemed brilliant. The super sleek hair as well as the "notice me" sheer accents create a sultry chic ensemble. Additionally, I can never resist a long-sleeved dress!
• Fergie at the amFAR Inspiration Gala (Calvin Klein Collection): Do you remember that last time we saw Fergie look this classy? I sure don't! From her old Hollywood ringlets to the way her stylist assembled the black, proliferated dress, Fergie looks like a class act. Fergie finishes off this look with demure pumps and effortless makeup. Though she's dressing for the event, Fergie is looking more modest than usual. I must say it works for her!

The Style FIles: You Can Have it All But Not Til You Prove It

If you're in the market for a "song of the summer," look no further! My friend showed me this one and I'm so obsessed. It's perky, inspiring, and so catchy. Tell me this song doesn't want to make you accomplish great things, I dare you.

Style Spiration: Victoria Beckham

In honor of the Queen's Jubilee, I thought I should dedicate this week's Style Spiration to a fashion-forward Brit. Honestly, who's a better choice than Posh Spice herself?  What fashionista doesn't adore this pop sensation turned style maven? Not only is her style clean and chic, but her diva-esque attitude is to die for.

Is it just me, or is Victoria Beckham having such a Holly Golightly moment? Between the oversized sunnies and the short, leather gloves, Beckham gives the LBD a modern twist. The sleek bob and neutral makeup enhance this crisp and jojo ensemble. Not only does Posh rock the chicest hue of them all, black, she also knows a thing or two about wearing color. For starters, she knows that the best way to finish off a bright dress is with a pair of flattering, nude platforms. Genius. I'm such a sucker for a long-sleeved mini so I'm obviously obsessed with this look. Though Beckham tends to sport a slew of fitted dresses, she knows that a body-con-esque dress isn't the only way to make onlookers swoon. Mrs. David Beckham knows a thing or two about self promotion. For example, she rocked her very own Victoria Beckham gown to the 2012 Vanity Fair Party. What I love about Victoria's self-promotion tactic is that she wears pieces that work for her. Though that may sound like a given, you'd be surprised as to how many people don't know the cardinal rule of self promotion. Any who, Victoria and the Mister are perfectly styled at this party. The simplicity of Posh's ensemble is perfectly counteracted by her dramatic eye makeup. She just gets me every time. (Photo Cred)

• Miranda Kerr at the Sydney Airport:  How feminine! Kerr rocks a dual-tone trenchcoat with leather accessories and a poppy lip. The supermodel's lack of jewels is perfect for this crisp and proper ensemble.  Not only is this ensemble styled beautifully, but I love that she wore this to the airport. So smitten.
• Alexa Chung at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (Moschino): Chung channels her inner Twiggy with this contrastingly feminine ensemble. While the lace detailing, as well as the buttons, infer an exuberantly feminine aesthetic, Chung gives it her own quirky twist with messy hair and a juxtaposed clutch. To top it all off, the black Mary Jane-inspired pumps and the flirty cat eye bring this look back to it's groovy roots.
• Kate Moss at the Mango Fashion Awards: Quintessential Kate Moss, no? I'm obsessed with her effortless style and this look ties that together with a polish, business-approved twist. If you're hoping to copy this look, it's all about mixing and matching different textures.

The Style Files: And This is Crazy

Once again, I'm obsessed with a Fun cover of a song I've already deemed trendy. But it's not my fault that Nate Ruess' voice makes me melt. All he needs to do is cover One Direction and I'll be one happy girl!

Style Spiration: Reese Witherspoon

My almost unbearable schedule this past week has made me appreciate clean and simple style. Though I'm a frippery fanatic, going back to the basics is absolutely necessary every now and then. In honor of stress-free style, I'm dedicating this week's style spiration to the queen of simple chic: Reese Witherspoon. She has the ability to dress age-appropriate, classy, and fashion-forward at the same time! 

This is by far the best pregnancy-friendly look I've seen in a while. Witherspoon quickly stepped away from the world of following chiffon at this year's Cannes and sported this fitted, black,  long-sleeved mini. The thin  silhouette perfectly complements her baby bump without look trashy. For a kick of summer-approved style, the pink heels act as that ever-so necessary pop of color. The subtle smokey eye, paired with the soft pink lip, allows Witherspoon's pregnancy glow to shine through.(Photo Cred)

Only a year after her fantastic Oscar win, Witherspoon brought simple chic to the  AcademyAwards with this drama-packed Nina Ricci dress (it all sounds ironic, but so accurate). From the subtle ombre to the diagonal ruffles, this gown pairs a typical silhouette with standout embellishments. Witherspoon strays away from the typical Oscar beauty regimes with the sleek down-do', smokey eyes, and a barely- there lip.(Photo Cred)

• Nina Dobrev at Cap D'Antibes (Elie Saab): What a vision! I'm so obsessed with this blue, sequined number. The dropped shoulder and high-slit make this ensemble classy, glamourous, and so not something an ice queen would wear. If you're in a mood for a striking contrast, look no further than the silver accessories. Can we say fabulous? Dobrev's fashion bun is the perfect way to finish off this ensemble. 
• Bella Heathcote at Vanity Fair and Gucci's Cannes bash: I'm literally obsessed- so in love with this editorial ensemble. Metallics and neutrals- ie black and white- create a striking combination. Fortunately, Heathcote nixes the jewels, which creates a clean look.  Not to mention she aces the beauty front: blunt bangs and gothic lips are musts for the fall!  Can we even think of a more spectacular combination of simple lines, gothic glam, and cutting-edge magic? No!
• Jordana Brewster at a Coach benefit: Gone are the days of color blocking being the end of discussion. Now, let's focus on a new way to approach your favorite hue- monochromatism. I'm obsessed with mixing different textures and fabrics that are the same color- so chic. Jordana Brewster totally rocked this monochromatic trend. From the whimsical, oversized clutch to the printed blouse, this look is super sweet.  The silver shoes add the perfect finishing, quasi-monochromatic touch!

I know I deemed "Somebody That I Used to Know" trendy a couple months ago; however, I'm obsessed with this cover. Fun and Gotye rolled into one? Too good to be true!

Style Spiration: Rachel Bilson

Between her strong presence on websites like Who What Wear and her quasi-comeback in Hart of Dixie, Rachel Bilson- and her style- is everywhere. Bilson has a strong, polished style that could make any  fashionista swoon. Let's take a peek, shall we?

From the retro wide-legged pants to the poppy white frames, Bilson hits this casual  look out of the park at a Sunglass Hut event. Sure, this look may come off as a bit...casual-  the hair is unstyled and the barely-there makeup infuses effortless chic into this ensemble. I absolutely love the Zac Posen creation Bilson sported at an Art of Elysium event. The feminine silhouette and fabric combination is divine; however, the vivid rose color adds a dash of glamour. The matching lip, girly hair, and minimal jewels are super refreshing. (Photo Cred)

If you look quickly, it's like Audrey Hepburn time traveled to the millenium!  Bilson exudes ladylike style at the Tribeca Film Festival. The boxy silhouette is perfectly paired with the brocade-esque embellishments. The soft pastels look sharp against the black pumps and clutch. And that 60's hair? As always, Bilson aces street style.  I love the way she blends layers and different fabrics together. The solid booties are so unexpected, which is what personal style is all about. The beginning of summer means a lot of things: tan skin, bikini shopping, iced beverages, and, oh, Cannes. Ready for some exceptional red carpet style? I am! 

• Freida Pinto at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Moonrise Kingdom (Michael Angel): In my mind, Freida Pinto is a fashion miracle. We don't see her on every red carpet; however, she ceases to amaze me with her cunning sense of style Though the beaded bodice may sound over the top, the relaxed peplum and draping on the skirt balances out the extravagant fripperies. The simple ring and drop earring beautifully complement the sparkle in her dress. Pinto recruits the stunning updo to finish off this red carpet glam look.
• Diane Kruger on the Le Grand Journal show (Balmain): As any stylista knows, Diane Kruger is the queen of edgy fashion. Fortunately, she does not disappoint here! Kruger perfectly blends simple and feminine silhouettes with chunky accessories. Tres chic. The simple makeup and casual hair bring the two extremes together. 
• Kate Moss at the Marie Curie Cancer Care event: That's a fur I need to own.
• Diane Kruger at the Cannes opening ceremony (Giambattista Valli Haute Couture): Princess alert in Cannes! Although this ensemble is a world's difference from her Balmain outfit, I'm obsessed with both.The sweeping silhouette is perfectly combined with the gorgeous aqua and dramatic asymmetrical shoulder? So smitten!

The Style Files: Goodnight, I Go to Bed Dreaming of Change

A couple years ago, I saw Steel Train alongside The Postelles and Fun. My love for them had a major comeback this week when they randomly popped on my iTunes. Witty, poppy, and kind of quirky- the perfect way to start summer!

Style Spiration: Zoe Saldana 

I'm going to go all hipster on this Style Spiration- I liked Zoe Saldana before Avatar.  However, this starlet has only recently "made it" as a fashion favorite. Whether it's a different silhouette or an edgy frippery, Saldana always tries something new. As every fashionista knows, it's so easy to only wear what you're comfortable in. With every step on the red carpet, Saldana breaks down her fashion wall. Ergo, she's invincible. 

I'm obsessed with the Elie Saab couture dress Saldana rocked at a Cosmo Latina event. The applique bodice works perfectly with the subtle tiered skirt. Also, can we talk about the detailing on that heel? To die for. The bright lip and the soft hair finishes this look with a strong girly punch! (Photo Cred)

Love this blend of futurism and romanticism. The bold shoulders are perfectly balanced with the slightly trumpeted skirt. As for the jeweled embellishments- the perfect slice of glamour. The low maintenance hair prevents an overbearing red carpet moment.  Tres jo jo. (Photo Cred)

 A celebrity can have an amazing stylist and be the least chic chick out there. In my opinion, street style is the true test of fashion. Are we surprised that Saldana aced it? Nope! The dark-washed skinnies are so Parisian chic with the cutout heels. Let's not forget that the softly draped scarf is perfection. Even sans makeup and minimal hair styling, you know that Saldana is a fierce fashionista!  (Photo Cred)

At this point of the style spiration, you're probably wondering where the splash of color is. Between the raspberry hue to the peasant-like ruffles, this Louis Vuitton dress is something else. • Natalie Portman at the New York City Ballet Spring Gala (Dior): Clearly, the Black Swan star could not stay away from the world of tutus and pas de beurres for too long. Simply stated, Portman looked gorgeous at this event. The navy and black color combination offers an edgy alternative to pure black. From the leather bow at the bodice to the tiered tulle, this Dior dress also offers a hint of femininity. Portman completes this look with subtle jewels, fresh makeup, and a messy updo.
• Emily VanCamp at Hollywood's Sunset Tower Hotel (Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet): Funky lace,  a feminine peplum, and a pop of color? Needless to say, I'm obsessed. The all black ensemble subdues all the fashionable fripperies. Not only does VanCamp rock the ensemble, she also conquers this look on the beauty front. Those loose waves are to die for! 
• Catherine Middleton at a Claridges' dinner (Roland Mouret): The duchess is looking absolutely regal in white. The slit and platform sandals give this look a dash of edgy glamour. I feel as if we always see Middleton in structured, printed midi dresses or princess-esque attire. It's definitely nice to see Middleton is something- dare I say it- minimalist and sleek. As always, Middleton finishes up this ensemble with her signature long locks. 

Unless you're living under a rock, you know that today is Mother's Day. I just wanted to give a shout-out to my mother- she's my rock, my cheerleader, my partner-in-crime,and my favorite shopping buddy. Everyday, she inspires me to be the best I can be and teaches me that pure sophistication never goes out of style. I love you more than anything and am so lucky to be your daughter!

Style Files: I'm a Witch and a Gremlin, You're at Home Watching Snick and Night

Last weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Fun with one of my friends. Their opening band, Miniature Tigers? Indie, well-dressed, and mildly poppy. I'm addicted. After you listen to "Boomerang," I think you'll understand why I just can't get enough of them.

The Style Files: Cheryl Cole

 I haven't wrote about my love for Cheryl Cole since the wee beginning of The Trendologist (wow, I'm getting old). I really do believe that Cheryl Cole is my celebrity equivalent. I know- bold statement, but I'm comfortable with saying it. Although she hasn't always been a fashion maven, I admire how her style has evolved into something truly remarkable.

Cole sported this J.Mendel dress at the  X Factor Finale.  While the trumpeted skirt and cris-cross necklace are reminiscent of a 1950's prom queen, the juicy red and futuristic sheen give this dress a healthy does of surrealism. The proper updo and blinged-out earrings bring this look back to its feminine aesthetic. (Photo Cred)

Favorite Cheryl Cole look, hands down. Her hair is sophisticated and sultry while the cutouts and high slit are siren-worthy.The crisp white, especially with the lace shoes, add an unexpected dose of femininity. I love this juxtaposition because it shows us that you don't have to O.D. on sultry style to be considered sexy. Cole channeled her inner glamor vixen with this Stella McCartney column dress at the 2011 Brit Awards. Sequin column dresses are so hard to pull off because, let's be honest, sequins are fun and  unforgiving. However,  the styling turned this dress from something potentially tragic into a homerun look: the semi-sheer sleeves give this  dress more dimension while the chic updo forces us to focus on Cole's tiny frame. The gold bag is genius- it blends into the look but doesn't compete with the dress. Her dramatic eyeliner ties this whole look together.(Photo Cred)

Cheryl Cole would make me love polka dotas. I always think of polka dots as a pattern that my Barbie dolls totally rocked.  However, Cole make it desirable. How? She just does! Between the oversized bow and the perky ponytail, this ensemble reeks of 1960's Britain (I guess I shouldn't say 'reeks' because I do love 1960's Britain).The contrasting polka shoes liberate the dress from all its girlish undertones and gives it a dash of Editorial. Spring brings out the polished lady in all of us! 

• Catherine Middleton at the London premiere of African Cats (Matthew Williamson): Leave it to this British duo to create an elegant look to lust over.The stone detailing on the sleeves and neck of this dress gives this traditional silhouette a contemporary twist. The dark grey pumps and clutch stay true to the dress' traditional roots. How regal?
• Camilla Belle at the Tribeca Film Festival (Chanel): Between the poppy floral print, the fierce eye makeup, and the silver bangle, Belle makes ladylike refreshing and (dare I say it? Oh, I will) enviable. The navy Rupert Sanderson shoes matches the dress' flower buds perfectly. However, the bright white and semi-sheer sleeves steers this look down a youthful path. 
• Coco Rocha at Cipriani Wall Street (Jason Wu): I would like to thank Coco Rocha's stylist for joining two fashion powerhouses- Rocha and Jason Wu, obviously- togehter. As many people know, I'm obsessed with all things Wu. Between her lace-up booties and smoldering, supermodel look, Rocha gives the candy color skirt and flirty peplum a hardcore twist. Just so amazing.

I love Jason Mraz. There, I said it. Forget Drake and 'Lil Wayne (for a moment): Jason Mraz's songs are "YOLO"-worthy. He- along with a bunch of my favorite artists- released a new album this week and it's amazing. "Live in the Moment" is such a cute song and forces listeners to live their lives a little more.

Style Spiration: Constance Jablonski

Lately, I've been so interested in off-duty model style. There's this chic, insouciant je ne sais quoi when they're not strutting their stuff down the runway. Constance Jablonski has this knack for dressing effortlessly chic and put together at the same time. Fashion juxtaposition? I like.

There's no better way to rock "nonchalant style" than a military jacket.  I love how she  throws this jacket over a pretty basic outfit during Paris FashionWeek. The messy bouffant and feminine makeup gives this outfit a "fresh off the runway" spin. As for those leather detailled pants...I'd pass. (Photo Cred)

Off-duty, downtown chic? I think so! Rocking a blazer during the summer is a style DO. The mixture of tan and whites really makes the navy pop. Plus, navy is such a sick alternative to black. Double plus, I really like those sandals. (Photo Cred)

• Emily Blunt at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Five Year Engagement  (Jason Wu): Blunt is on trend with this super retro Jason Wu dess. But don't write this look off as classic just yet: the Alice + Olivia heels give this look a funky, modern twist. Although I don't love matchy-matchy, this look works because the splash of green on the bodice, the earrings, and the pumps all havee an appropriate distance from each other. Ergo, it's not overbearing and works. Her slicked back hair and the bright lip finish off this feminine look.
• Emily Blunt at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Your Sister's Sister (Michael Kors): I think every fashionista should put "rock colored lace" on their bucket lists. The dainty lace creates this fun juxtaposition with the loud cherry red. The hemline has the potential of looking a bit matronly; however, the platform sandals and messy updo loosen this look up.
• Kate Beckinsale at the Total Recall press event in Cancun (J. Mendel): Leave it to Beckinsale to wear something uber sexy in the classiest way possible. I love the neck of the dress as well as the asymmetrical slit. The nude pump as well as the natural makeup proves that Beckinsale isn't just wearing something to look hot- she knows what she's doing.

The Style Files: Hearing Those Words it Makes Me Weak

For my friends and me, this week was all about "Lips of an Angel." While there's no rhyme or reason for loving Hinder's song this week, you have to admit that this song is pretty stellar.

Style Spiration: Zoë  Kravitz 

Let's face it, Zoë Kravitz is one of the coolest girls out there. Not only is she everywhere, but she's been the face of Vera Wang fragrances. And if Vera Wang thinks you're cool, you are cool. This week, how about we focus on Zoë's refreshing and show-stopping style?

I'm not going to lie to you: her street style is awfully quirky and kind of reminiscent of your grandma's closet. However, I always give a quirky dresser major kudos for creating their very own look.  The clashing patterns adds this certain carefree je ne sais quoi that every stylista should appreciate.(Photo Cred)

Kravitz rocked this look to the 2011 UNICEF Snowflake Ball. Can we say "phenomenal"? The medieval-inspired collar and shoulders are beautifully executed while the feathered skirt is progressive. However, the black and white color combination makes this look mildly refined. (Photo Cred)

Mullet hemlines are all the rage lately. Kravitz totally rocked this at the 2011 Grammy Awards before it was even cool. Fashion hipster status. The subtle metallic color, mixed with the retro-inspired print, looks amazing with the muted taupe platform. Her hair and makeup is absolutely flawless. For a super relaxed look, Kravitz said '"no thank you" to adding jewels. (Photo Cred)

I love this look at she rocked at Chanel's 2008/2009 Cruise Show. The proper black and white jacket, as well as her pumps, upholds the Chanel aesthetic. • Penelope Cruz are the To Rome with Love premiere (Pucci): Whenever you  hear the term "sexy slit," you instantly think of a dress like Angelina Jolie's, right? As Cruz shows us  with this look, a slit on a shorter dress can be chic. The off-the-shoulder straps add that dash of old school glamour to this unconventional slit. The messy updo allows us to focus on how eternal this dress is.
• Scarlett Johansson at The Avengers premiere (Versace): I guess LBDs were all the rage this week. Between the forward-thinking neck to the dainty peplum, this Versace is fierce and feminine at the same time. The modern bouffant, mixed with the super light lip, gives this look a classic touch while the patent leather sandals are uber sexy.
• Emily Blunt at the Salmon Fishing in Yemen Premiere (Carolina Herrera): Though I'm totally obsessed with brights for spring and summer, I know that I'm going to rock a lot of black and blue this fall. The color combination is both subtle and striking at the same time. How? I honestly can't tell you. While I don't find this Herrera dress to be season-appropriate, I absolutely love it on Emily Bunt. The youthful bob and peep-toe heels are the perfect finishing touches .

The Style Files: So Say Hello to Falsetto in Three, Two...

I'm not sure if I'm having a quarter-life crisis or if I'm just nostalgic, but I cannot stop listening to these tween sensations.  Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" is my everything right now: it's the perfect blend of poppy and swag. Also, how much do you love Justin's falsetto?

Style-Spiration: Fearne Cotton

I had the pleasure of viewing this English sensation's style on Who, What, Wear earlier this week- she truly did rock that pair of mirrored sunnies. Anywho, I'm obsessed with her style. Cotton is the quintessential part quirky, part rocker fashionista that dominates the UK. As you should know by now, I'm literally obsessed with all things British so this week's edition of "Style-Spiration" is rather predictable.

I'm all about mixing crazy patterns lately. Cotton aces this trend by sticking to a similar, dark color palette. Consequently, the houndstooth and plaid act as neutrals. • Krysten Ritter at the Life Happens Premiere (Jenni Kayne): This dress offers a fun play between sophisticated and sensual. The black caps sleeves, paired with Ritter's shoulder length do, scream demure while the super sexy central slit shows us that there's more than meets the bodice. The black and white print is whimsical, while the column cut and black belt offer a minimalist twist. 
• Taylor Swift at the ACM Awards (J. Mendel): By now, everyone should understand my eternal hatred for Taylor Swift; however, even I am admitting that this look is phenomenal. The cutouts offer a look that's sexier than Swift's typical wardrobe. The bedhead and smokey eye are the perfect finishing touches.  For a moment, I thought she was Jennifer Lawrence. Though I wish Jennifer Lawrence rocked this dress, I'm glad that Swift is finally starting to grow up. 
• Lily Collins at the Mirror Mirror Premiere (Zac Posen): Collins ditched her Snow White aesthetic at this Parisian premiere and channels her inner temptress. The trumpet skirt plus the sweetheart neckline turns Collins into a smoldering seductress. The red lip plus the full, wavy hair? Forget about it!

The Style Files: Young and Bright, But Now Just a Dim Light Off in the Distance

My love for "Call Me Maybe" prohibited me from discussing The Shins' new album, Point of Morrow, last week.  I'm having a major Shins moment lately and this album only fueled my obsession even more. Their song "For a Fool" reminds me of the typical "regret song" in a movie. You know when the two lovers had a big fight so one of them is arbitrarily on a train and that sad song plays as he or she looks out the window? Yeah, that regret song. Obviously, I'm not in some regret complex so this song is purely relaxing for me.

Style Files: Solange Knowles

Call to action: let's stop thinking of Solange as merely the Queen (Beyonce, obviously)'s sister. She- and her fantastic personal style- is her own entity. She is so creative and fearless when it comes to fashion and I admire that!  

So this is a little reminiscent of Beyonce's "Party" music video (sorry, I had to) ; however, I love all the risks she's taking. Since they have a similar color palette, the skirt and crop top act as a neutral to the bright pink lip. The flared silhouette of each gives this look a whimsical feel, which is furthered by the crazy sun glasses. It's fun, it's youthful, it's quirky, it's Solange.  I love it.(Photo Cred)

I don't necessarily love this look- the tank cardigan duo is a little primitive for me. However, I love how she pays close attention to detail. The multi-finger rings and the lightning bolt on her skirt gives this look a cohesive dash of boldness.(Photo Cred)

To some people, this look may be a little much. In my eyes, this ensemble is super fun and I'm a little jealous that she can rock this so effortlessly. This outfit proves that Solange is ahead of her time, fashion-wise. Can we take a second to remember that ab-flaunting tops and bright lips are totally in this spring. • Ashley Greene at Macy's (DKNY): If you know anything about my taste by now, it's that I love a good blend of textures. For that reason, I love what Ashley Greene wore to her Macy's excursion. The skirt and shirt are in a similar color family; however, the leather and ruffle combination gives this look a chic juxtaposition of edgy and girly. The leather pumps perfectly match her skirt, giving this outfit precision. Clean, smart, and fashion-forward! 
• Brooklyn Decker at a Battleship press event (Theyskens' Theory dress; Isabel Marant jacket and heels): I'm such a sucker for a fabulous jacket. The jacket, paired with the two-toned heels, gives this look a healthy dose of color. This ensemble shows how accessories can really make an outfit. The wavy hair and feminine makeup perfectly ties in the neutral dress.
• January Jones at the Metropolitan Opera Gala (YSL): Are there any words? That large, key hole back is so stunning (not to mention that it works perfectly with her short do). The high slit makes this dress super sleek. However, her coral lip and glamourous bob bring some femininity to this ensemble. Love!

The Style Files: You Took Your Time with the Call, I Took No Time with the Fall

I think this is officially my "tween throwback" phase. This whole week, I've been shamelessly addicted to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me  Maybe."  Be warned: if you listen to it once, you'll never stop.

Style Spiration: January Jones
I always believe that everything you do (and wear) should be fun: life is too short to be boring. January Jones perfectly encompasses this philosophy in her style. You'll be bored of her when pigs fly. In honor of Mad Men's anticipated return- no, I don't watch the show- I'm dedicating this week's Style Spiration to the girl who always makes fashion exciting.

At the 2009 Emmy Awards (Versace): January Jones wore peplums before it was cool. I love the subtle  peplum with the uber glam skirt. The sweetheart neckline paired with the revealing details mixes feminine and fierce into a super luxe bodice. The minimal jewels adds a hint of delicacy to this ensemble.(Photo Cred)

At the 2009 SAG Awards (Carolina Herrera): One of my favorite looks from the night! The Herrera dress is so classic; however, her futuristic hair rejuvenates this look. Also, I love black and gold with her complexion. Minimal jewels was a smart move: over accessorizing would've been overbearing.  (Photo Cred)

Anyone who can make flip flops chic is on my good list. She looks so chic and  comfortable in those printed pants and the lace embellished top.  The bagginess of each piece gives off a very nonchalant vibe that I'm loving. (Photo Cred)

• January Jones at the TimesTalks Mad Men event: Mixing and matching textures never goes out of style. The lace blouse, leather pants, and suede heels create this fashion forward blend. Usually, I hate when black and brown are styled together, but the mixed textures makes it quirky. Jones' sleek updo and feminine makeup puts all the focus on the awesome outfit.
• Elizabeth Olsen in Brooklyn (AG Adriano Goldshmied): I'm such a sucker for street style and Elizabeth Olsen nails it.  Cognac in the spring time? I'm totally obsessed. In my humble opinion, leather vests are chic all year around. The proportion between  oversized, white button down and the leather vest creates this effortless and disheveled glamour. Honestly, I just wish I was an Olsen.
• Jennifer Lawrence at Late Night with David Letterman (Prabal Gurung): Well ladies and gent, the girl on fire is still on fire. This black and metallic number is very different from her sexy red carpet looks. I love the way her mesh heels work with lace-inspired detailing. Her half-up hairdo is so reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot, I'm smitten. I just want to give whoever her stylist is a big hug: she's bringing back sexy, contemporary glamour.

The Style Files: Come and Take a Walk on the Wild Side

I may be a little behind, but I cannot get enough of this song. Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die" just makes me want to roll on a furry carpet and drown my thoughts in a bottle of wine. Weird? Get used to it.

Style Spiration: Jennifer Lawrence 

For me, this week was all about The Hunger Games. In true "me" form, I devoured the book just before the movie adaptation hits theaters this Friday. Needless to say, I'm extremely excited. Not to mention that the movie's superstar, Jennifer Lawrence has WOWED us at each Hunger Games premiere (more on that later). It really made me think about Jennifer Lawrence as a fashionista: this girl has ability to impress us at every single event. The girl on fire is literally on fire right now!

At the 2011 Academy Awards (Calvin Klein Collection): Though I'm not crazy for minimalism, Lawrence takes this simple dress and gives it a sultry twist. From the minimal jewels to the Farah-inspired hair, Lawrence makes this dress sexy and forces us to focus on how well her bod looks in this dress. But not in a creepy, slutty way.(Photo Cred)

At the 2011 Spirit Awards (Dolce and Gabbana): I'm obsessed with how ethereal this whole look is. The dainty lace works perfectly with her relaxed waves and that soft, pink lip. The Lorraine Schwartz bracelets not only give this look a pop of color, they also give a sense of personal style. And personal style is always in trend. (Photo Cred)

At the 2012 People's Choice Awards (Viktor & Rolf): Though I understand why some people may not love this dress, I'm obsessed with how the whimsical waves work the the mesh background. Since this dress is an artistic piece, minimal jewels and simple, black shoes are the perfect way to accessorize this outfit. The sleek ponytail and fierce eye makeup gives this look a hint of fashion forwardness.(Photo Cred)

• Jennifer Lawrence at The Hunger Games LA Premiere (Prabal Gurung): One of my all-time favorite looks, hands down. I love how the glamourous gold is juxtaposed with the sexy cutouts of this dress. The Jimmy Choo heels work really well with the geometric cutouts. I love when people pair an ultra light lip with a bold,sexy eye: to die for! The braided hair gives this look an unexpected  punch of natural femininity.
• Charlize Theron at the Hollywood Reporter's 25 Most Powerful Stylists party (Boy by Band of Outsiders): Although I usually associate Band of Outsiders with younger starlets and fashion fanatics, I love how this pleated dress looks on Theron. The deep V and pleats make this dress more exciting than your average LBD. Thankfully, the strappy sandals rationalize the lack of jewels. The sporty ponytail makes this look refreshing.
• Jennifer Lawrence at the The Hunger Games Paris Premiere (Tom Ford): As you can see, the Jennifer Lawrence girl crush continues. She successfully pulls off a backless dress: the gapping around her back is flattering, but it doesn't look ill-fitted. I love how the gold piping of the dress matches her gold sandals. Fashion forward, yet cohesive. The sleek, straight hair plus a red lip? No words. 
• Miranda Kerr in Manhattan (Marni, Nobody jeans, Louis Vuitton, Tabitha Simmons): As much as I love red carpet glamour, I'm such a sucker for unique street style. The mostly black ensemble makes the Marni coat and Louis Vutitton work together  to create a feminine dose of edge, not compete against each other. For a model "off duty" vibe, Kerr keeps her hair super straight and adds a casual pair of aviators.
• Michelle Williams promoting My Week with Marilyn in Tokyo (Alexander McQueen): Yes, this look is rather plain; however, it's Williams' aesthetic. The draping and silhouette of this white dress is angelic and the bold lip give us a much needed dose of glamour. Although it's understated, I kind of like it: the simplicity of this look allows Williams' true beauty to shine through. You must admit that she's channeling her inner Marilyn.

The Style Files: We Got No Money, But We Got Heart

I think I have an obsessive song disorder. Almost every week, there's a song that I can't stop listening to, hence this arbitrarily placed section in the Style Files. Right now, I'm obsessed with Walk the Moon's "Anna Sun." For some reason or another, it makes me feel like we're on the cusp of something epic happening. Big thanks to my friend, Ben, for showing me this gem.

Style Spiration: Alexa Chung

I'm pretty surprised that over the past two years of blogging, I've barely mentioned Alexa Chung. Well, ladies and gent, that's all going to change: right here, right now. The British fashionista truly exudes this understated chic vibe. She never has to over-accessorize; however, the way she puts outfits together is always stylish and quirky.

At the 2010 CFDA Awards (Marc Jacobs): This look really pinpoints everything that Alexa Chung's style encompasses. She doesn't need statement jewels or a standout bag; however, those chunky silver shoes do create the perfect amount of style tension with the dainty Marc Jacobs dress.The way this look is put together is very reminiscent of the early 20th century, when understated glamour ruled the world, don't you agree? (Photo Cred)

Street Style: Love it or hate it, Alexa Chung rocks quirky, personal style. Those high-rised shorts with the high socks? One might think this is all too high for comfort, but I kind of like the quirkiness. The simple striped tee as a neutral to make the look appear cleaner.(Photo Cred)

At the 2010 Met Ball (3.1 Phillip Lim): Pants to the Met Ball? As anyone who keeps close tabs on the Met Ball knows, this red carpet is all about avant garde dresses that are too crazy for any other red carpet. In short, it's embracing fashion as art. Wearing a simple pantsuit is such a fashion risk; however, there's no one better to make this risk than Chung. Honestly, I love the whole look: the bold lip, the western-inspired bow, the trouser effect, the chunky shoes. Chung shows us an alternative, but equally creative way, to dress for the Met Ball. (Photo Cred)

• Elizabeth Olsen at the NYC Premiere of Silent House (Balmain): From the oversized Balmain topper to the pastel envelope clutch, this look is everything. I love how she pairs these fun accessories and extra with a simple black dress. The different lengths, textures, and sleeve lengths give this look a disheveled vibe; however, her clean hair and makeup bring femininity and structure to the table. 
• Julianne Moore at the Game Change Premiere (Lanvin): Sure, Julianne Moore has her fair share of fashion faux pas; however, this Lanvin number is to die for.  Everything is so structured, which really works for her. I despise when she does these avant garde dresses: all she needs is something simple and sleek. I love the black and white color blocking, especially with her red hair. The variety of bracelets gives this look a dash of personal style. For the record, that fuchsia lip is incredible. 
• Catherine Middleton at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee: Thankfully, the Duchess of Cambridge is embracing the peplum trend. The otherwise straight silhouette works perfectly with the cute peplum.  Paired with that cute hat? Out of this world. I love when people wear navy and black together, so this look is definitely a good one.  Also, where has Kate been? I've missed her!
