The Style Files: Goodnight, I Go to Bed Dreaming of Change

A couple years ago, I saw Steel Train alongside The Postelles and Fun. My love for them had a major comeback this week when they randomly popped on my iTunes. Witty, poppy, and kind of quirky- the perfect way to start summer!

Style Spiration: Zoe Saldana 

I'm going to go all hipster on this Style Spiration- I liked Zoe Saldana before Avatar.  However, this starlet has only recently "made it" as a fashion favorite. Whether it's a different silhouette or an edgy frippery, Saldana always tries something new. As every fashionista knows, it's so easy to only wear what you're comfortable in. With every step on the red carpet, Saldana breaks down her fashion wall. Ergo, she's invincible. 

I'm obsessed with the Elie Saab couture dress Saldana rocked at a Cosmo Latina event. The applique bodice works perfectly with the subtle tiered skirt. Also, can we talk about the detailing on that heel? To die for. The bright lip and the soft hair finishes this look with a strong girly punch! (Photo Cred)

Love this blend of futurism and romanticism. The bold shoulders are perfectly balanced with the slightly trumpeted skirt. As for the jeweled embellishments- the perfect slice of glamour. The low maintenance hair prevents an overbearing red carpet moment.  Tres jo jo. (Photo Cred)

 A celebrity can have an amazing stylist and be the least chic chick out there. In my opinion, street style is the true test of fashion. Are we surprised that Saldana aced it? Nope! The dark-washed skinnies are so Parisian chic with the cutout heels. Let's not forget that the softly draped scarf is perfection. Even sans makeup and minimal hair styling, you know that Saldana is a fierce fashionista!  (Photo Cred)

At this point of the style spiration, you're probably wondering where the splash of color is. Between the raspberry hue to the peasant-like ruffles, this Louis Vuitton dress is something else. The matching jewels creates a monochromatic ensemble that anyone would kill to wear. The relaxed hair as well as the monochromatic makeup screams understated elegant. (Photo Cred)

The Weekly

• Natalie Portman at the New York City Ballet Spring Gala (Dior): Clearly, the Black Swan star could not stay away from the world of tutus and pas de beurres for too long. Simply stated, Portman looked gorgeous at this event. The navy and black color combination offers an edgy alternative to pure black. From the leather bow at the bodice to the tiered tulle, this Dior dress also offers a hint of femininity. Portman completes this look with subtle jewels, fresh makeup, and a messy updo.
• Emily VanCamp at Hollywood's Sunset Tower Hotel (Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet): Funky lace,  a feminine peplum, and a pop of color? Needless to say, I'm obsessed. The all black ensemble subdues all the fashionable fripperies. Not only does VanCamp rock the ensemble, she also conquers this look on the beauty front. Those loose waves are to die for! 
• Catherine Middleton at a Claridges' dinner (Roland Mouret): The duchess is looking absolutely regal in white. The slit and platform sandals give this look a dash of edgy glamour. I feel as if we always see Middleton in structured, printed midi dresses or princess-esque attire. It's definitely nice to see Middleton is something- dare I say it- minimalist and sleek. As always, Middleton finishes up this ensemble with her signature long locks. 

Unless you're living under a rock, you know that today is Mother's Day. I just wanted to give a shout-out to my mother- she's my rock, my cheerleader, my partner-in-crime,and my favorite shopping buddy. Everyday, she inspires me to be the best I can be and teaches me that pure sophistication never goes out of style. I love you more than anything and am so lucky to be your daughter!

The Style Files: So Say Hello to Falsetto in Three, Two...

I'm not sure if I'm having a quarter-life crisis or if I'm just nostalgic, but I cannot stop listening to these tween sensations.  Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" is my everything right now: it's the perfect blend of poppy and swag. Also, how much do you love Justin's falsetto?

Style-Spiration: Fearne Cotton

I had the pleasure of viewing this English sensation's style on Who, What, Wear earlier this week- she truly did rock that pair of mirrored sunnies. Anywho, I'm obsessed with her style. Cotton is the quintessential part quirky, part rocker fashionista that dominates the UK. As you should know by now, I'm literally obsessed with all things British so this week's edition of "Style-Spiration" is rather predictable.

It's pretty simple: I really want that hat. I love how she pairs that hat with the funky, graphic top. So London. (Photo Cred)

I'm all about mixing crazy patterns lately. Cotton aces this trend by sticking to a similar, dark color palette. Consequently, the houndstooth and plaid act as neutrals. Ergo, the fierce blue bag is a "fun pop of color." The straight hair and refined makeup gives this look a polished vibe. Perfection. (Photo Cred)

The Weekly

• Krysten Ritter at the Life Happens Premiere (Jenni Kayne): This dress offers a fun play between sophisticated and sensual. The black caps sleeves, paired with Ritter's shoulder length do, scream demure while the super sexy central slit shows us that there's more than meets the bodice. The black and white print is whimsical, while the column cut and black belt offer a minimalist twist. 
• Taylor Swift at the ACM Awards (J. Mendel): By now, everyone should understand my eternal hatred for Taylor Swift; however, even I am admitting that this look is phenomenal. The cutouts offer a look that's sexier than Swift's typical wardrobe. The bedhead and smokey eye are the perfect finishing touches.  For a moment, I thought she was Jennifer Lawrence. Though I wish Jennifer Lawrence rocked this dress, I'm glad that Swift is finally starting to grow up. 
• Lily Collins at the Mirror Mirror Premiere (Zac Posen): Collins ditched her Snow White aesthetic at this Parisian premiere and channels her inner temptress. The trumpet skirt plus the sweetheart neckline turns Collins into a smoldering seductress. The red lip plus the full, wavy hair? Forget about it!

The Style Files: You Took Your Time with the Call, I Took No Time with the Fall

I think this is officially my "tween throwback" phase. This whole week, I've been shamelessly addicted to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me  Maybe."  Be warned: if you listen to it once, you'll never stop.

Style Spiration: January Jones
I always believe that everything you do (and wear) should be fun: life is too short to be boring. January Jones perfectly encompasses this philosophy in her style. You'll be bored of her when pigs fly. In honor of Mad Men's anticipated return- no, I don't watch the show- I'm dedicating this week's Style Spiration to the girl who always makes fashion exciting.

At the 2009 Emmy Awards (Versace): January Jones wore peplums before it was cool. I love the subtle  peplum with the uber glam skirt. The sweetheart neckline paired with the revealing details mixes feminine and fierce into a super luxe bodice. The minimal jewels adds a hint of delicacy to this ensemble.(Photo Cred)

At the 2009 SAG Awards (Carolina Herrera): One of my favorite looks from the night! The Herrera dress is so classic; however, her futuristic hair rejuvenates this look. Also, I love black and gold with her complexion. Minimal jewels was a smart move: over accessorizing would've been overbearing.  (Photo Cred)

Anyone who can make flip flops chic is on my good list. She looks so chic and  comfortable in those printed pants and the lace embellished top.  The bagginess of each piece gives off a very nonchalant vibe that I'm loving. (Photo Cred)

The Weekly 

• January Jones at the TimesTalks Mad Men event: Mixing and matching textures never goes out of style. The lace blouse, leather pants, and suede heels create this fashion forward blend. Usually, I hate when black and brown are styled together, but the mixed textures makes it quirky. Jones' sleek updo and feminine makeup puts all the focus on the awesome outfit.
• Elizabeth Olsen in Brooklyn (AG Adriano Goldshmied): I'm such a sucker for street style and Elizabeth Olsen nails it.  Cognac in the spring time? I'm totally obsessed. In my humble opinion, leather vests are chic all year around. The proportion between  oversized, white button down and the leather vest creates this effortless and disheveled glamour. Honestly, I just wish I was an Olsen.
• Jennifer Lawrence at Late Night with David Letterman (Prabal Gurung): Well ladies and gent, the girl on fire is still on fire. This black and metallic number is very different from her sexy red carpet looks. I love the way her mesh heels work with lace-inspired detailing. Her half-up hairdo is so reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot, I'm smitten. I just want to give whoever her stylist is a big hug: she's bringing back sexy, contemporary glamour.

The Style Files: Because We are, We are the Shining Stars

Without a doubt, Fun is one of my favorite bands of the moment. I'm so excited for their new album, Some Nights, which comes out in a couple of weeks. They recently released this song on You Tube and I love it.  Oh and another thing, Glee has nothing on Fun. Absolutely nothing.

STYLE SPIRATION: Whitney Houston 

By now, everyone's heard of Whitney Houston's tragic death. While I wasn't alive during her musical height, her legacy and talent is undeniable. Yes, Whitney wasn't famous for her fashion; however, I wanted to open up this section to honoring the great icon. 

How phenomenal does Whitney look?  The flowing A-line skirt plus the big bow screams 1980's.. .and I kind of love it.The tight curls keeps this look refreshing and youthful.  (Photo Cred)

Okay, so this look may be a little bit...outdated; however,  I'm drawn to this like a mouth to a flame. The combination of a saloon-inspired skirt and a diva-licious, sequined top is so divine.  This look could've been terrible, but Whitney's effortless approach to outfit made this incredible. (Photo Cred)

Even in her later years, Whitney could still rock a phenomenal sequined frock. The use of minimal jewels as well as the super glam hair and makeup is inspiring. (Photo Cred)

THE WEEKLY 

• Olivia Palermo at the Carlo Pazolini Party (Not Determined): Can we even talk about the edginess of this outfit? Love.  The two-toned trousers are absolutely out-of-this-world amazing. I love how Olivia mixed the leather blazer with that metallic sweater. Such a stellar combination. Even though there's a huge array of tones and colors, it's not abrasive. On the contrary, the yellow clutch provides a splash of color. Perfection.
• Solange Knowles at the Runway to Win Launch Party (Vera Wang): Oh my fashion gods, I'm literally so obsessed with this look. It's not even funny. The feminine print plus the use of peplum? Fashgasm. The perfect blend of sexiness and style.And that red lip? Beyond stellar.
• Rose Byrne at Sandro's NYC Boutique Launch (Sandro): Gorgeous. Rose is such a stylish superstar and I love this play with black and nude. The whole look is really subtle and focuses on the craftsmanship of each piece. I  also don't love her bob, so I'm liking this alternative. Fantastic.

The Style Files: I'm Not a Part of a Red Neck Agenda

Stress enables people to do many things: smoke, drink, or maybe even eat an obscene amount of food. When I'm stressed, I love to listen to a good show tune. I know, who am I? With papers, projects, and finals galore this week, I developed a strange love for the Green Day musical, American Idiot. It all began when I started You Tube stalking John Gallagher Jr.: he's so cute! Now, I can't stop listening to their remedition of "American Idiot." I know I could've of easily made the song of the week Green Day's original version, I'm a blatantly honest person and don't like lying. Plus, this quirk is too funny to ignore.

STYLE SPIRATION: Rachel McAdams
From Mean Girls to Red Eye, I always find myself loving Rachel McAdams. She's a great actress and a super fabulous fashionista. If you don't believe me, scroll down to the weekly.  This week's edition of the Style Spiration is dedicated to Rachel McAdams for always being a classy actress and fabulous fashionista.

At the most recent Cannes Film Festival (Marchesa): I want this dress for my own- future- collection of Marchesa dresses. Amazing. The cherry red lace adds the perfect amount of drama to the nude background. I could picture this dress being a little provocative; however, I think it's so chic and dramatic and perfect. Paired with the feminine makeup and old Hollywood glamour hair? Perfection.  (Photo Cred)

At a 2006 Oscar Ceremony (Miu Miu): I feel as if most blondes stay away from yellow, but I love this color on her. I love how simple the silhouette and the detailing on the bodice is fantastic. The relaxed updo works with the dress so well. Since there's a lot of sparkle on the dress' bodice, the minimal jewels is good.  Last but not least, that red lip? It's everything.  (Photo Cred)

McAdams Food Shopping (Her own clothes, shocker): I just love how casual this look is; however, she's not wearing your typical sweat pants. The black accessories, knee highs, and boots really make the dress the look's focus. There's something pretty funky about that boot  and knee-high combo. I kind of like it, though. (Photo Cred)

At the 2010 Academy Awards (Elie Saab Haute Couture): Amazing. The dramatic skirt with the subtle floral print is brilliant. I love how she kept her hair up and the dangling earrings are the perfect amount of jewels for this look. Lovely. (Photo Cred)

• Rachel McAdams at the Sherlock Holmes sequel premiere (Marchesa): My jaw actually dropped when I saw this look. She always makes a splash on the red carpet, which I love, love, LOVE.  That silver ,mixed with the light pink light and blonde hair? Ah-maze-zing. Can we even begin to talk about that striking back? I'm going crazy over this look.   From the dress' length to the stunning details on the Marchesa- when it comes to fabulousity, leave it to Georgia Chapman- the look is so wintry! Beautiful.
• Emma Watson at Lancome event in Hong Kong (Elie Saab): She literally looks like a fashion  princess. First and foremost, I love when people wear navy. I don't know why, but I do. The navy plus the stunning red lip? Don't even get me started. The metallic strapped heels acted as a neutral in this look, which I love. Fabulous.
• Angelina Jolie at the In the Land of Blood and Honey premiere (Romona Keveza): I'm obsessed.  Navy and nude is such a stellar color combination, so that's amazing. That dress?  Phenomenal. The silhouette and the asymmetry? No words. However, I do wish she had a bolder eye or a really enviable, silver bracelet. Regardless, the navy and nude is incredible.
• Olivia Palermo at the Valentino Virtual Museum Party (Marchesa): Well, this is beautiful. The sequined detailing on that Marchesa is gorgeous and I love how the dress is paired with those funky heels. I love Olivia Palermo's style because she does that quirky stuff; however, she always  looks undeniably chic. The feminine hair, makeup, and clutch are the perfect thing to balance such a show-stopping ensemble.
• Lea Michele at The Tonight Show (Pucci): Fine, I'll admit it: Lea looks great here. The cohesiveness of the wavy hair and printed dress is right on. I also love how she's wearing hoops or dangling earrings. Though I think a pump would have been more winter-appropriate, the nude shoe does elongate her legs, which is always good.

The Style Files: I'll be Waiting for You Baby, 'Cause I'm Through

The weirdest thing is listening to a song's cover before the  original song. I don't know why I find it so weird, but I do. This recently happened with The Strokes' "You Only Live Once" : I loved a certain cover of it for a couple months, and then I finally listened to the original. It's weird that it took me so long since I love The Strokes, but  I'm please to say that the original did not disappoint. In my humble opinion, this song is addicting. But then again, it's not like you read this blog to hear about my musical preferences. This section is just for my personal enjoyment.

STYLE-SPIRATION: Ali MacGraw
When it comes to style inspirations, I always love playing "blast-from-the-past."  In my mind, these fashionistas are the ones who really paved the way for chic and progressive fashion. I love Ali MacGraw because I feel like I can relate to her style a lot. Every outfit, she's so glam but it almost feels like it's no big deal: it's just natural to her.

This look screams  60's and I like it. The silhouette and the bell-sleeve are perfection. The seemingly white boots are so edgy. Plus, I love a good long-sleeved mini. (Photo Cred)

THE WEEKLY

• Sarah Jessica Parker at the annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball (Louis Vuitton): Talk about a wintry wonderland: I'm obsessed with this look. Although these separates may make other people look boxy, I think the proportions are righteous on her. Sure, the silhouette isn't the most exciting; however, the detail of her ensemble is phenomenal. The monochromatic look is also perfect for all of that detail. Have you guys realized that I really like detail? The messiness of her hair complements the feathered skirt. Gorgeous.
• Kate Hudson at the Brit Fashion Awards (Stella McCartney): This look is so sultry, it's awesome. The cut-out is the perfect thing to complement the long,straight silhouette. Though I love my jewels, keeping this look clean and simple allows us to focus on the dress' detailing. Also, the high bun plus the winged liner equals supreme.
• Olivia Palermo at the Brit Fashion Awards (Matthew Williamson): Love. First of all, I'm obsessed with Olivia Palermo's style. Second, I love Matthew Williamson. Put them together and you get a fabulous look. I love this dress and keeping the color palette simple is such a smart choice: there's so much going on that color would've ruined this look. I also love how she mixed high- Matthew Williamson- with low, Topshop. STYLE DO!  The cutout of the shoes complements the feathers on the Williamson dress, making it an awesome look. Keeping the hair slicked back is smart too: if it was down, there would've been too much going on. Smart and fabulous look!

The Style Files: I'm Tired of Seein' the Days Goin' by, Tearin' the Numbers Off My Wall

So you know when you randomly find a band and you really like them? Yeah, that happened to me this week. To quickly sum it up, The Lemonheads are awesome: very chill music.

STYLE SPIRATION: Sarah Hyland

Do you guys remember that whole Sarah Hyland slash Lea Michele debacle on Fashion Police? Well I do and let me just  say that I'm so team Sarah. Not only is she super funny, but Hyland is a fabulous fashionista herself. So this week's style-spiration is dedicated to Sarah Hyland.

At the Latest Harry Potter Movie Premiere (Paule Ka): Gorgeous! The all-black ensemble is super chic and the metallic clutch adds the perfect "wow" factor. The fun ponytail perfectly contrasts Hyland's smoky eye. Obsessed. 

At the 2011 SAG Awards (Max Mara Elegante): This look is super youthful and laid back, which I love. The casual waves, mixed with the draping of the orange dress, is supreme. Keeping the makeup fresh, as well as having minimal jewels, is perfection. (Photo Cred)

At the Glee 3D Premiere (Nuj Novakhett): I'm obsessed with this look! Usually, I get skeptical when I see a cut-out dress;however, this look incredible on her. The dress is gorgeous and the light shoes and clutch makes this look summery. The natural makeup and braid gives this look a youthful twist.

THE WEEKLY

• Gaga at the Gaga Pop-Up Store in Barneys (Chanel): This so extravagant-almost too extravagant- but I love it. In my mind, this is the perfect mix of Jackie O and Lady Gaga. The contrast between black and white is so classic. Also, I'm so smitten with her use of accessories. The red lip:  need I say more?  I love how she can be her crazy self without pushing the envelope too far.
• Fergie at the Black Eyed Peas Experience Launch Party (Jen Kao skirt and an Ellery jacket): I'm not obsessed with this look; however, I think it was styled very well.  The textured skirt and the tribal-inspired earrings are perfectly styled with the black ensemble. The sleek ponytail and the strong blazer adds a dash of sexy.

The Style Files: You Think You've Seen This Town Clear Through

Over the summer,  I developed a new addiction: buying inexpensive CDs. After I picked up my shampoo, I'd casually stroll to Target's electronic collection. They always seem to have discounted CDs, which I don't have the strength to resist. This obsession has quickly turned into a random collection of music: CAKE, Sublime, Cee Lo Green, and The Grateful Dead, for example.   Before listening to my latest purchase, I've always associated The Grateful Dead with the oh-so-popular "Dead Heads."  If you like The Gratfeul Dead, I thought, you must be a heavy druggie. I learned, however, that this band is so much more than its infamous fan-base. In fact,  I sort of love their music.

STYLE SPIRATION: BRIGITTE BARDOT

Lately, I've been really into buying new beauty products and trying trends. What a lot of people fail to realize is that your hair and makeup plays a HUGE roll in completing an outfit. An unfortunate makeup situation or a terrible flat-iron job can ruin everything: fashion is risky business. To assert this belief, I'm making a little change for this week's Style Spiration. This week, the spotlight shines on Brigitte Bardot because her hair and makeup equals fabulousity.

This definitely proves my point. The heavy eye makeup and the flower in her hair gives off a nice juxtaposition between femininity and edgy rocker. (Photo Cred)

THE WEEKLY 

• Nikki Reed at the Twilight Premiere (Michael Kors): I'm in love with this look. The intene contrast between the yellow and the black is stunning and works so well with this strong silhouette. The cutout and the slit is super sexy; however, the halter top keeps it classy. Those shoes are the PERFECT thing to wear with this dress: they mimic the lines of the dress so well. Almost too well... anyways.  Keeping the hair and makeup clean makes this strong look cohesive. Also, the red lip is a win! 
• Miranda Kerr at a MoMA Benefit (Peter Pilotto): I love the juxtaposition between the eclectic print of the dress and the strong, yet plain,  accessories: this look is simple without losing any of its chicness. The silhouette is very flattering and gives Kerr a nice shape. Also, that red lip? I rest my case.
• Doutzen Kroes at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards (I Wish I Knew...): This is such a stellar statement look. The dramatic skirt and the semi-sheer top is a fabulous combination.  I know some people might think that the bra-posure is a bit much, I think this is the classiest way to pull off this trend. Keeping this outfit all black, in addition to the clean hair and makeup, is a smart idea since this is a lot of dress! Fabulous, though. Absolutely fabulous.

The Style Files: Hot and Fresh out the Kitchen

I've probably expressed this a million times in this blog, but here we go again: I love Joseph Gordon Levitt. So much. He's so beautiful.  My friend showed  me the following video and I'm borderline obsessed with it. He's just so perfect.

STYLE SPIRATION: Olivia Wilde

In my humble opinion, Olivia Wilde always look super fashion-forward. Her style is constantly evolving and I love it. I feel like nobody should be stuck in a single style forever. Evolution is key! Take a note: Olivia Wilde uses juxtaposition to spice things up.

Olivia Wilde at the 2011 Golden Globes (Oscar de la Renta): This is one of my all-time favorite red carpet looks. The femininity of the dress plus the edginess of her hair and the Louboutins equals a stellar look. So trendy, I'm obsessed. (Photo Cred)

At the Glamour Reel Moments Premiere (David Szeto): While I wish that she wore a jewel-toned shoe instead of the hot pink one, I'm totally digging the concept. The vertical stripes on her dress are extremely slimming, especially with that silhouette. The bangle and drop earrings are very simple; however, they promote a steady movement from her hair and makeup down to the pink shoe.  Besides the harshness of the hot pink shoe, I love the styling of this outfit: so classic! In addition, her makeup and soft updo are fabulous.(Photo Cred)

At Ralph Lauren's Spring 2012 Show: Incredible. First of all, I love a good playsuit: always have, always will. The keyhole in this playsuit is super sexy, but not slutty. The green clutch and burnt orange lipstick are fabulous pops of color: they add that dash of juxtaposition without looking awkward. Her soft waves also keeps this look casual: a sleek ponytail would've been too much for NYFW.(Photo Cred)

• Elizabeth Olsen at the London premiere for Martha Marcy May Marlene (Chanel Haute Couture): The other Olsen is such an up-and-coming fashionista, I kind of love it. The silhouette and fabulous detailing of the look is so European. The blush pink gives such an edgy skirt and top combination a dash of femininity. The red lip gives this look some life and those waves are absolutely enviable. 
• Sienna Miller at the International Medical Corps (Twenty8Twelve): I love how sixties and girly this look is. The boatneck, mixed with the short sleeves, is so classic. Keeping an entirely black outfit is uber fabulous because it allows her hair, makeup, and those awesome hoop earrings to take center stage. I'm really into  that high bun: so retro! Overall, it's a pretty simple look, but that's what makes it chic.
• Nicole Richie at the ACE Awards (Antonio Berardi): Borderline obsessed with this look. That plunging V neck and subtle slit is super sexy; however, the updo and the minimal jewels make this look more classic. On the other hand, the studded clutch gives off this super edgy vibe. All of these different influences work because the outfit is completely black. Fabulous.

The Style Files: We Will Live Like Kings Under Lavender

When I went to see Matt Nathanson in concert a couple weeks ago, I was surprised to find out that Vanessa Carlton was the opening act. From "A Thousand Miles" to "White Houses," Carlton defines my childhood. I thought that she fell off the face of the earth until she sang one of  her latest songs, "I Don't Want to Be a Bride." There's something very ethereal and hauntingly beautiful about this song that I love.

STYLE SPIRATION: EMMA STONE

In my opinion, Emma Stone and Mila Kunis are the two coolest girls in Hollywood. Sorry Mila, but I'm focusing this Style Spiration on Emma Stone. The best part about Stone's recent looks is that she wears a lot of fashion-forward ensembles; however, she still looks super cool. How does she do it? I don't know. But let's just take a peak at some of my favorite Emma Stone looks, shall we?

Stone at The Help premiere Hamburg (Lanvin): This is such a stunning ensemble, I'm pretty much obsessed. The teal and mustard color combination is striking; however, not too over the top. Since the color combination is the primary focus of this look, I'm glad the dress' silhouette is rather simple. As always, the hair and makeup is gorgeous.(Photo Cred)

At The Help premiere in L.A. (Chanel Haute Couture): This ensemble is both edgy and classic. I think it's a very unconventional look to wear; however, it does give a nod to the 1920's, which I love. Her makeup is extremely summery , which is out of season now but okay back then. Even though this dress isn't extremely youthful, she looks like the coolest girl at the party! (Photo Cred)

At the 2011 Golden Globes Awards (Calvin Klein): So I know that I didn't like this dress at the time of the Golden Globes, but times change. I'm never going to be a fan of minimalism; however, I must say that her look is refreshing and undeniably chic. The peach is a very unconventional color, but she totally pulls it off. The simplicity of the drop earrings creates the perfect amount of dash to this look.  Also, this is probably the best makeup I've seen on Emma Stone. Lovely! (Photo Cred)

• Gaga in London (Michael Kors): I know what you're thinking: this is such a weird look to love. But for some reason I do. It's very sixties glamour, which I'm obsessed with. In an odd way, this look is both wearable and chic. An essentially monochromatic ensemble is perfect for this look, since that jacket is quite extravagant. The hair and makeup is also uber glam. Adding the super psychedelic accessories-like the sunglasses- gives this outfit a healthy dash of Gaga.
• Noomi Rapace at the Rome Film Festival premiere of Baby Call (Giambattista Valli): There's something beautifully simple about this look that I love. Usually, I never love red dress with a red lip on a red carpet; however, this look is undeniably glamourous. The dress' straight silhouette- in addition to the subtle draping- works beautifully with the asymmetrical neckline: the neckline adds an appropriate amount of  drama to such a simple dress. The red lip gives a pinch of timeless glamour. The edgy bracelet and clutch, on the other hand, makes this look current.

The Style Files: I'm Coming 'Round When They Don't Know the Facts

Music-wise, this was a very solid week. Not only was Michael Buble's Christmas album released, but Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto was as well! I've been very into Coldplay lately: the band's music is laid back but still has some edge. My absolute favorite song from this album is called "Hurts like Heaven." The cool thing about this song is that it's nothing like the rest of the album. It's upbeat and extremely catchy so here it is!

STYLE-SPIRATION: NICKI MINAJ

In honor of Halloween, I wanted to dedicate this Style-Spiration to Nicki because she only wears costumes.  Is she the chicest person ever? No. Do I like her outfits? Not really. But she does one thing that many people don't: dress how she wants and doesn't care who likes it. And when someone gets to sit next to Anna Wintour at Fashion Week, you know she's a big deal.

Nicki at Hot 97's ThanksgivingThank You Concert (The Blonds): This look is a little crazy; however, I kind of love the social implications. I'm thinking this is one of her saner outfits and it's interesting: half classy, half  Nicki.(Photo Cred)

Nicki at the 2011 AMA Nomination Ceremony (Cia. Maritima): To be perfectly honest, I hate everything about this look. Well, that's a lie: her hair is okay. This is  just a very very bad combination of pieces. But does Nicki care? Nope. She wears her outfit with complete confidence. (Photo Cred)

• Cat Deeley at a Chanel Party (I'd assume Chanel): This look is awesome because it's both sophisticated and chic. The pastel color scheme is so classic and I love the silhouette: long sleeves are a almost always win in my book. The semi-sheer skirt makes this outfit somewhat sexy. Deeley accessorized this dress beautifully: the modern shoes de-frumpatizes the dress. By keeping the hair down, Deeley keeps this look current.
• Fan Bingbing at the Tokyo International Film Festival (Jason Wu): This outfit is mind-blowingly amazing. This Jason Wu collection is stunning and the styling tactics are incredible. Those sparkling shoes with this ladylike silhouette is outstanding. I love that she kept her hair and makeup clean. Brava! 
• Lauren Conrad at the Autumn Party (BCBG MaxAzria): Obsessed.  Conrad's hair and makeup is so retro, which I love. The pink lip was the perfect dash of color for this neutral outfit.  Also, I love how she played around with different types of textures. Good job!

The Style Files: When I Was Young, I Took off Running

So last week, my friend and I went to see Matt Nathanson and Vanessa Carlton at the House of Blues. It was beyond amazing: Matt Nathanson is one of my absolute favorites and Vanessa Carlton's performance gave me a nice walk down memory lane. After the concert, I couldn't stop listening to "Drop to Hold You." I was never a big fan of this song until I heard it live. Now, I'm literally obsessed.

STYLE-SPIRATION: HAILEE STEINFELD

I've said it before and I've said it again, Hailee Steinfeld is the next style icon.  Her style is so edgy, chic, and youthful. At the same time!  Incredible. 

Hailee Steinfeld at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards (Prabal Gurung): It's just SO COOL. The crimped detailing of the Gurung dress is so hip, but the halter silhouette keeps it classy. I love how she has fun with her accessories: the clutch and bangles are super funky, which is so unusual for an awards show! (Photo Cred)

At the 26th Annual Santa Barbara Film Festival (Alberta Ferretti): I usually hate red accessories; however, I'm so smitten with this look. The lace on that Ferretti dress is GORGEOUS, yet the short hemline keeps it young. Besides the red shoes and clutch- phenomenal, by the way- she keeps the hair and makeup simple which is a STYLE DO. (Photo Cred)

At Miu Miu Fall RTW 2011 (Miu Miu): This look is so glamorous:  I just wish I was her. The dress is beautiful and classic. But, in true Hailee style, she spices this look up with awesome shoes and a super fierce clutch. That sleek ponytail? Incredible.(Photo Cred)

I kind of hate how she's younger than me, yet she still has the best style. Now, onto the weekly!

• Amber Heard at the premiere for The Rum Diary (Elie Saab): Well, this is the epitome of old school vixen. She looks absolutely incredible. The dress is outstanding and the high silt is sexy without crossing the line. The up-do keeps this look classy, which I love. I'm really glad she didn't accessorize this look very much: the lack of jewels keeps the focus on the amazing silhouette. 
• Rose Byrne at CAA's Young Hollywood Party (Manning Cartell): I'm obsessed with Byrne's bohemian vibe. The way her bob juxtaposes the tiered skirt and cross-body bag is genius! I do wish she had cooler shoes, since she didn't have funky jewels. Regardless, this look is lovely! 
• Charlize Theron at an Africa Outreach Project event (Dior): Unbelievable. This sheath is so classic; however, the detailing gives such a classic silhouette some funk. The accessories are intricate, yet they don't overpower this awesome dress. Keeping her hair and makeup simple is also a major STYLE DO. Fabulous!

The Style Files: Everyone Else in the Room Can See It

I think simply saying, "I love my friends," is the biggest understatement ever. Whether they're from home or  school, my friends always make me laugh and are the best support system. For example, my school friends and I had a lovely dance party to One Direction's "That's What Makes You Beautiful" earlier this week.  Haven't heard of them? Well you should. They're this British boy band and "That's What Makes You Beautiful" is the best motivational song ever.

STYLE-SPIRATION: 

So I'm watching 500 Days of Summer and, besides gushing over Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I can't help thinking that Zooey Deschanel is the coolest girl in Hollywood. A couple of days ago, my roommate asked, "Why can't I dress like Zooey Deschanel?" I knew exactly what she was getting at. Deschanel's style portrays her personality perfectly: SO cool. Sure, she's had some fashion faux pas in her past, but she's improving!

 At the BAFTA Brits to Watch Gala (Oscar de la Renta): I'm obsessed with this look in general, but Deschanel's "cool" quality makes it even better. This dress is phenomenal and I love the shortened hem. Since this is such a glitzy look, she kept it casual by nixing the jewels. And the beachy waves are the perfect finishing touch.(Photo Cred)

At the Designer Dinners for Gucci, Marchesa, and Celine. I love how she wears tights like it's her job. Most celebrity looks are anti-tights so this is refreshing. The blue is edgy and better than a LBD. The ruffled skirt is so girly and I like it. (Photo Cred)

At the MET Ball After Party (Marni): Okay, maybe this wouldn't be what I'd wear to the MET Ball; however, Deschanel looks so cool. The silhouette is so Audrey, but she makes this look her own by incorporating fun prints. Funky and chic at the same time? WOOHOO. (Photo Cred)

• Emma Stone at The Help premiere in London (LucaLuca): This look is absolutely to die for. The sporadic dots on the dress make the pattern quasi-modern. And I love that silhouette! The sleeves? Ridiculous! The black and white is a beautiful contrast to her red hair and the red lips: I think it's really cool how she still wears red lips even though she's a redhead.  She looks so classic and I love it! 
• Salma Hayek Pinault at Alexander McQueen Spring RTW 2012 (I wish I knew): This look is supreme. I love the dainty salmon color mixed with the edgy black and gold combination. She piles on the accessories; however, this look is still clean and effortless. How does she do this? I couldn't tell you. 
• Hailee Steinfeld at Miu Miu Spring RTW 2012 (Miu Miu): Mark my words, Hailee Steinfeld WILL be a style icon.  Her outfits are always age-appropriate, but so ahead of the curve. This look, for example, is FLAWLESS. There's nothing I would change. The girly silhouette works wonderfully with her classic hair and gorgeous makeup. And the coral bodice and the blue clutch complement each other beautifully. She's so awesome.

The Style Files: Perfection of Your Face Slows Me Down

So this week, my friends- especially my roommie- and I have been going CRAZY over Maroon 5. Specifically, "Never Gonna Leave This Bed." I'm borderline obsessed with the music video for three reasons:

1. Adam Levine is gorgeous.
2. The concept is adorable.
3. I love Wayfrarers on guys...yes that is one of my reasons.

STYLE-SPIRATION: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Recently, I've developed this theory that Justin Timberlake is the most perfect person...ever. Don't believe me? Well let's look at the facts: he's beautiful, 6'1 (according to my findings), can sing, can dance, can act, is extremely funny and successful. Did I mention he also has a killer sense of style. Yes ladies and gent, I'm continuing this boy crazy extravaganza with J.T. as this week's style-spiration. 

J.T. at the WilliamRast Spring 2007 RTW Show. Call me old fashion, but I cannot resist a guy in a sweater vest. Unless it's an old man who looks like he's up to no good.  I love how J.T. used the sweater vest a neutral and experiment with different patterns, as seen in the tie and button-down. While I'm not loving the vans, I love how Justin is never afraid to experiment with clothes. He is my dream man. (Photo Cred)

J.T at Cartier's 100th Anniversary. He looks...SO GOOD. I love this three piece suit: it's so classic, but edgy with his subtle scruff. The combination of grey and black makes this look funky and sophisticated. Ugh. Why can't I marry him? (Photo Cred)

 J.T. at the 2009 Met Ball in WilliamRast. HE EVEN DOES A FORMAL TUX BETTER THAN ANY GUY. SERIOUSLY, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?! The bow tie- lapel proportions are spot on and he looks uberchic. Those glasses make him look intellectual and trendy. Only man who reads this blog, listen up: THICK RIMMED GLASSES ARE A STYLE DO. I'm so glad he broke up with Jessica Biel. (Photo Cred)

• Rachel Zoe at the Christian Dior show (I'm assuming Dior):  This look is perfect for Paris Fashion Week. The black and white is so flawlessly chic. While the white dress is pretty plain; however, the maxi factor, as well as the belt, gives the look some drama. And those sunglasses? Amazing. Haters gon' hate, but I idolize her.
• Lady Gaga at iHeartRadio (I want to know): I'm literally obsessed with this look, even though it's not very Gaga-esque. The costume jewels as well as the silhouette of this outfit make the look creative enough for Lady Gaga to wear. She looks so glamourous and chic. 
• Leighton Meester at Dior also (I'm assuming Dior as well): LOVE LOVE LOVE this LWD. The tiers on the dress make this look really girly; however, the pumps gave this look some edge. Her hair and makeup? So feminine and beautiful. I love this look.
• Miranda Kerr chilling in Paris (I don't have ay designers for this blog post): This is perfect Parisian street style. The toughness of the leather skirt and the softness of the shirt is the PERFECT juxtaposition. Her makeup is clean and feminine. This look is simple and all around glam.

The Style Files: So Let's Set the World on Fire, We Can Burn Brighter Than the Sun

Tuesdays are my favorite weekdays for one reason and one reason only: the new songs on iTunes. I love browsing  iTunes' homepage every Tuesday, in hopes that I'll find some amazing music. This past Tuesday, one of my favorite bands (FUN.) came out with a new single. I was so excited to hear it slash afraid that I'd hate it. But I'd love the song  so much. "We are Young" has been my jam all week and I hope you like it!

STYLE-SPIRATION: BIANCA JAGGER

There's something about the fall that makes me want to go retro. It's probably all of the sleeves and layers. I knew that I wanted to do a throw-back for this week's Style Spiration and who better than Bianca Jagger? One of the most classic style icons, Jagger's style has inspired fashionistas like Rachel Zoe.  With Jagger's looks comes a sense of feminine masculinity; she can rock suits without looking like an androgynous mess. 

Beautiful. The silhouette of this dress is rather clean; however, the detail on the top of the bodice give this dress the perfect amount of drama. Her style isn't overbearing, yet it is completely glamourous. Incredible.  (Photo Cred)

How many times do I have to say it? Never EVER underestimate the power of fur. This incredible fur, combined with Jagger's low-maintenance makeup, is the perfect way to look effortless glam. (Photo Cred)

While most people would look like a really creepy cowboy in this look, this ensemble is effortless and undeniably chic on Jagger. There's not much I can say because this picture doesn't show the whole look. And it also is in black and white, but here's a lesson for the books: AVIATORS ARE  INSTA-EFFORTLESS. Those sunglasses would work with almost any look but, in this instance, they make Jagger look cool.  (Photo Cred)

I wish that I had more to say about these looks, but the lack of information makes that a little tricky. Anywho, I do love Jagger's effortlessly chic style. She doesn't need all of the bells and whistles to look incredible. At the same time, she's not our modern day minimalist. You guys know how I feel about minimalism. Decades after her style peak, it's ironic slash amazing how I find her style refreshing. With that in mind, onto the weekly!

THE WEEKLY

• Rose Huntington-Whiteley at the Burberry show (Burberry) : While this look does scream Burberry- if you're quiet enough, you'll hear it- I love how the drama is not in crazy silhouettes but the pops of color. While the jacket obviously takes center stage, the red in the jacket is not overbearing. The green of the shirt and the black of the pants act as neutrals, yet all of the colors work together to create a cohesive look. I also love how she threw that woven-esque bag in: it gives this look a sense of personal style. While I would replace her sandals with a neutral pump, the femininity seen in her hair and makeup creates more cohesion. A perfect transition look into the new season.
• Sienna Miller at London's Moet and Chandon Etoile Award (Dior): Ever since I saw Alfie, I've been obsessed with Miller's boho chic. While this look is not typical Sienna Miller, I think she looks incredible. The overload of glitz and jewels makes this look extremely feminine and overly glamourous, which I personally love. The column silhouette makes this look more approachable. I lover her take on vintage glam but what really makes this look is the red lip: it gives this rather innocent look some sex appeal. Brava! 
• Rose Huntington Whiteley at the same Moet party  (Burberry): Well,  apparently she's dominating every Burberry look lately. I love the the design of this dress! The plunging V and high slit are uber sultry;however, the long sleeves make this design more classy. The movie-star waves and the red lips are uberglam, but I would've chosen different jewels. The jewels are just a little too primitive for my liking. But I love this dress so that's why it's in the weekly.
