Red Carpet Review: 2016 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes mean a lot of different things for different people. For the awards-obsessed, it's kicking off the most wonderful time of the year. Those who scour through TMZ on an hourly basis light up whenever they see a winner or presenter who has had a few too many drinks before hitting the podium. And for the fashion flock? The dawn of countless water cooler chats and keeping score of some seriously chic red carpet moments. Overall, this year's slew of looks fell flat. While it's easy to blame the lack of options -- Spring Couture 2016 and Autumn Ready-to-Wear 2016 are weeks away -- we can't  help but think of the mindblowing Golden Globe getups from Lupita Nyong'o and Emma Stone of years past. As always, however, there a healthy mixture of the good, the bad, and Cate Blanchett's borderline-costumey Givenchy dress. Missed the red carpet? Read on for all the best (and worst) moments from the 2016 Golden Globes.

The Worst

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy: "She can do no wrong," any avid fashion follower has probably told themself (and anyone else who would listen) about Cate Blanchett's forever exciting sartorial choices. On Sunday, we were proven wrong. Sure, budoir is a macrotrend for the impending spring season. Sure, nobody captures the trend better than Givenchy's Ricardo Tisci. But something about this look instigated more cringes than coos for Team Trendologist. Not only did the color read cheap on camera, the heavy dose of fringe veered into costume territory, which is a big no especially for an event as mainstream as the Globes. Perhaps it would've been more event-appropriate in a sultry black or even a better match for the CFDA Awards of Met Gala this summer, but it was a miss here.
Malin Akerman in Reem Acra: In the runway world, peplum (like any trend) has its series of ups and downs. But on the red carpet? It's a timeless way to give any basic column dress a jolt of energy. And thanks to the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Williams, the unofficial guide to wearing peplums to an awards show was born. Rule number one? No floppy fabric. Malin Akerman, we're looking at you. While a completely sturdy peplum has the power to create an illusion of a thinner waist -- and land she who sports it on the best dressed list -- a more malleable iteration does the exact opposite. Not only did it look like a sloppy last-minute addition to an otherwise beautifully boring dress, it also looked like she was hiding some extra, unwanted holiday pounds. On the bright side, the soft hue and embroidery work were gorgeous.
America Ferrera in Jenny Packham: While her bit with Telenova star Eva Longoria during the ceremony arguably stole the show, her look wasn't something to applaud. The good news is that the funnywoman looks wonderful in yellow, not to mention that silhouette is extremely flattering on her. The bad news? The rows and rows of crystals. Yes, award shows are supposed to be fun, glitzy and glamorous, but the embellishments felt more reminsicent of a theater kid's dance recital costume circa 1993 or some toned down BeDazzler work. With her slicked-back do, a pair of statement earrings (and no crystals on the dress) would've been a better choice for the Superstore actress.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior: Another year, another Dior moment brought to you by Team J.Law. But unlike her other partnerships with the French fashion house, this ensemble felt extremely contrived. Alone, and with sweeping beachy waves, this Dior gown could've looked modern and sexy on Hollywood's resident sweetheart. But instead, Lawrence looked like a middle-aged pageant mom. It's easy to blame a lot of things for this fail -- the matronly hair and the loud necklace are just two solid examples -- but at the end of the day, it all comes down to over styling. Media outlets of all varieties convince us that the Hunger Games star is the coolest woman in entertainment, so her coolness should shine through with youthful locks and minimal accessories, especially when wearing such a structural gown.
Jane Fonda in Yves Saint Laurent Couture: Ethereal ruffles are having a moment right now, but there's nothing chic about a ruffle overload. From the waist down, the dress fits the 78-year-old actress perfectly. But on top? It looked more like she threw on her grandchild's costume petticoat for fun, because clearly all grandchildren have a teeny petticoats lying around for fun. Not only does it feel extremely clownish, but the look as a whole is unbalanced: so much focus on one half of the body doesn't allow a full, cohesive look. Not that anyone should touch Yves Saint Laurent couture, but even cutting off a layer would make the world's difference.

Regina King in Krikor Jabotian: Where to begin? Shall we talk about the slew of super-sized paillettes that were basically swallowing the American Crime actress whole? Or what about the sheer train that made onlookers wonder if King rushed to the red carpet from a Cirque du Soleil performance? The outdated, 40's-inspired hair? Perhaps we should point out that those shoes, especially combined with the extravagance of this dress, are completely mis-matched. Are you trying to give a thumbs up, Regina? Because the entire look is a major thumbs down.

The Best

Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana: Attention all future award show presenters: wear something like this. It's an unspoken red carpet rule a presenter should never upstage a nominee, and this glitzy number definitely fit the bill. The column silhouette is extremely frills-free; however, the sequins add a jolt of energy to an otherwise ho-hum shape. And luckily, this Dolce & Gabbana dress set itself apart from the rest of those sheeny column dresses with this fun pink hue. To keep this look polished and mature, Bosworth sported a ladylike chignon and a soft pink pout.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton: As the face of Louis Vuitton, it's no surprise that the twice-nominated actress would sport the famed French house to her big night. But instead of donning something straight from the runway, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière created this custom gown that's equal parts feminine and modern. The pinafore-esque bodice and slight pleats pay some serious homage to her role in The Danish Girl, which she scored a nomination for Best Leading Actress, not to mention this is an ideal amount of ruffles, Jane Fonda. But from the subtle sequins to the edgy criss-crossed back, Vikander served up some ultimate cool girl style here.
Kirsten Dunst in Valentino Haute Couture: As a nominee for her role in Fargo, Dunst wowed with a black gown. Wowed with a black gown? "Is that even possible?" you're probably asking yourself. The answer is yes. With a plush texture and boxy, plunging neckline, this dress gave all the other LBDs a run for their money. Not only did this dress fit Dunst like a glove,  it's also perfectly accessorized: the minimal jewels complete the look without competing with the dress's eye-catching bodice. And on the beauty front, the nude lip and updo were both youthful and sophisticated.
Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors Collection: Unlike some of Sunday's other attendees -- here's to you, Alicia Vikander and Cate Blanchett -- Wilde is not your bonafide fashion girl: she always looks good and that's all there is to it. But in this sequined Michael Kors Collection? She was a true vision. First of all the color is amazing: it's more exciting than black, less summery than Amy Adam's tomato red hue and wintry enough without looking drab.  Paired with a matching choker necklace, the plunging neckline created an illusion of an obtuse keyhole, which has "chic" written all over it. And, as for her beauty regime, the sleek middle part added a very cool sense of symmetry.

2013 Golden Globes

Thankfully, awards season is finally here. Let us open a bottle of bubbly and cheer on our favorite movies, shall we? Additionally, the most fierce style competition has begun: the red carpet. Though Amy and Tina apparently killed their hosting gig, London's time difference is sometimes a burden, the red carpet was less-than-fabulous. But in the sea of subpar and average attires were some stellar ensembles. As always, I'm ready to share my best and worst dressed lists.

The Worst.
Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney: It seems as if the Parks and Recreation star is rocking her newfound single girl status; however, those shoes take this ensemble to the street corner. Plunging neckline and strappy platforms? Leslie Knope would be mortified.
Halle Berry in Atelier Versace: This is just horrendous. Not only is this ensemble showing way too much skin for the Golden Globes, that hideous print is making me ill. Berry doesn't need a flashy gown-- she's a classic beauty.
Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein: Though this outfit is adored by style savants everywhere, I must say that I don't like this look at all. Compared to her series of homerun dresses last season, this Calvin Klein number is less-than-fabulous. Is it just me or is that halter neck extremely unflattering?
Lena Dunham in Zac Posen: Maybe it's her awkward shoulders or that painfully cheesy smile, but Dunham resembles a preteen boy here. I don't understand why she always dresses so...old (besides the Met Ball, obviously). Dunham is supposedly a visionary, so why doesn't she dress like one?

Sienna Miller in Erdem: I know she just had baby and all, but what is going on here? Plain and unflattering? Good grief.

Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera:  Remember when you went to high school dances and there was always that girl who wore an awkwardly long dress? That's Lucy Liu. While this dress is gorgeous, it's definitely not appropriate for this red carpet. Save this for the Met Ball, dear.

Kelly Cuoco in Zahair Murad: Can someone please get this girl a stylist? Time after time, she's on my worst list.  She looks sloppy and as if she's headed to some Bar Mitzvah. Make it stop!

The Best.

Michelle Dockery in Alexander Vauthier: Can you get anymore regal than a white dress with a gilded bodice? Exactly.
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu: Literally, this is perfection. Though the overall silhouette is quite demure, the sparkles and sheer overlay give this look a dash of sex appeal. The long bob and basic accessories perfectly complete this look. All hail the new fashion queen!
Megan Fox in Dolce & Gabbana: Remember when this starlet was borderline trashy? What a transition! Not only to I respect her sophisticated switch, I adore this look. This blush hue looks absolutely heavenly on the new mommy. Combined with the soft waves and the feminine jewels--perfection!
Adele in Burberry: As everyone knows, I'm obsessed with Adele. While I think she always looks perfect, this post-baby ensemble is just lovely! Though I wish her outfit had a little more bling, the black gown and  polished updo scream retro glam.
Lea Michele in Elie Saab: Even though Glee is no longer the hottest show on the tube, the petite actress looks better than ever. But then again, Elie Saab makes everyone look better than ever. Unlike her previous show-stoppers, the diva opted for a sleek white number. I adore the halter neck and subtle slit. The hint of emerald adds the perfect splash of color to this angelic look. Brava!
Eva Longoria in Pucci: Speaking of subtle slits, this is any but subtle.  I'm quite thankful for the slit-- Longoria would've looked too gothic otherwise. From the high bun to the fresh makeup, she looks absolutely chic. Actually, this dress is the antithesis to Michele's Elie Saab creation. But, oddly enough, I love both equally.

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen: Leave it to the queen of cool to rock a boho glam ensemble. The extravagant keyhole screams vixen; however,  the rest of the outfit is sophisticated. Plus, black and gold combination is extremely fantastic. If I could change one thing about this look, I would put her hair in a sleek ponytail-- the long locks just block the ornate neckline.
Emily Blunt in Michael Kors: I swear that Emily Blunt is my favorite on the red carpet. Every time I see her, she's always rocking a new trend or hot silhouette. Thankfully, the Golden Globes were no different. First of all, whoever is gutsy enough to sport yellow on the red carpet has my undying love and respect. Not to mention the berry earrings combined with the yellow is major. I also applaud Blunt for her originality- cutouts for an award show? Love it!
Anne Hathaway in Chanel:  Though this look is a little on the plain side, you can't deny that Hathaway is a vision in white. Not only is this column dress uber modern, it's quite different from the actress's other red carpet looks. In fact, it's even different from most column dresses-- the slight peplum creates a more feminine look. Between her sartorial track record and this homerun, I cannot wait to see what she wears next!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

No, the most wonderful time of the year is not Christmas. Silly fashionistas and stylish suaves, the most wonderful time of the year is award season. Hooray, it's finally here! While some people have been super stoked for the big football weekend, I've been counting down the hours until the Golden Globes' red carpet. If you live under a rock, let me make this easy for you: I love the Golden Globes and will always love the Golden Globes most. Well, besides the Met Ball. Anywho, I love the creativity and the collaboration between film and television. This year, I went really hard-core and had my own fashion predictions. For some, I was spot on. Others, well...nobody's perfect.

My Predictions:

  • Fabulous silhouettes and barely any column dresses: On the spring runways, we saw so many gorgeous silhouettes a la old school Balenciaga: Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta, etc.
  • Color, color, color: If you saw the Elie Saab spring runway, you'll understand this prediction.
  • Sparkle and art-deco: Gucci had some absolutely fabulous sparkled numbers as well as de la Renta's pre-fall show.
What Really Happened...
  • Neutrals: This took me by surprise, but black, white, and nude stole the show.  Actresses like Mila Kunis, Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, and Julianne Moore all strutted down the carpet in these hues.
  • Sparkles: Spot on, yes? Thank you Salma Hayek and Evan Rachel Wood for helping me out here.
  • Volume galore: So much volume it made me so happy! Stars like Sarah Michelle Gellar,  Julianne Moore, and Elle Macpherson ditched the column silhouette.
Now that the trend report is in, it's all about the best and worst dressed.  And leave it to me to give you my honest opinion. All in all, it was a fabulous red carpet and there were so many looks that I loved.

THE WORST
  • Lea Michele (Marchesa): Well the impossible happened: a Marchesa dress looking horrific. I love Georgia Chapman and everything she does at Marchesa, but this truly looked terrible on Lea. I don't really think this was the right person or place to be wearing this dress. Also, I hate Lea Michele's diva-status: she needs to be tamed. She's not Beyonce and she cannot wear this. Beyonce could.
  • Missi Pyle (Junko Yoskioka): Honestly, this looks like a dumb prom dress that's on clearance. I hate that bow and the tulle-esque layering. This is too cheesy I don't even want to blog about this anymore.  A waste of fabric. And it's not even styled right!
  • Kelly Osbourne (Zac Posen): I think my mom hit the nail on the head when she said that Kelly Osbourne was trying to look like Carolina Herrera. This dress would've look beautiful on Helen Miren, but Kelly Osbourne? She's purposely aging myself and I don't know why. Besides, what's up with that lavender-gray hair? Disgusting.
  • Kristen Wiig (Bill Blass): I love Kristen Wiig; however, I hate this look. While I love the nude with her chocolate brown locks, the jewels are way too bold.  It's just look like she's trying way too hard, which I don't like.
  • Amanda Peet (Mac Jacobs): This is definitely not Globes-worthy. The ruffles are not chic in the slightest and the accessories are so primitive.  However, this would be great for a picnic!
  • Mary J.Blige (Michael Kors): Re-pul-sive. Yes, the halter looks fabulous on her, but what's with those feathers? Maybe this dress would look good on someone else- I'm thinking Zoe Saldana- but it's just not working with Mary J. What about jewels overload? Diaster. It's just too much of terrible things.
  • Reese Witherspoon (Zac Posen): Don't get me wrong: I love Reese and I love love LOVE Zac, but this was not a good fit. The silhouette isn't too flattering and would look much better on a taller woman. Also, where is the styling? The makeup is barely there, and not in a good way.  Jewels? Where are they? I would love a killer bracelet or gorgeous earrings. Nothing! It could've been a million times better.
  • Madonna (Reem Acra): No, just no. It was all so good until the skirt. The dress would've been fabulous if it was completely metallic or completed flapped fabric. But both? Not working. Also, the cross is way too big and looks a little cheesy.
  • Elle Macpherson (Zac Posen): She is so beautiful; however, Elle needs a new stylist. I'm actually confused as to how someone would think the chintzy jewels would look good with this dress. There's too much going on to even respect Zac Posen's creativity and construction.  She should've had minimal jewels- preferably a cocktail ring- and a soft updo.  Too much of everything, way too much. Major disappointment.
  • Julie Bowen (Reem Acra): No, Julie Bowen, no. She literally kicked fashion-tushy at the Emmys; however, this is too much. The dress is alright, but it was styled completely wrong. I understand where her hair stylist was coming from, but the Lucy-inspired curls are awkward: a soft updo would have been a million times better.
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar (Monique Lhuillier): She told Ryan Seacrest that her daughter picked out this dress. Well, SMG, you should probably find a stylist.  I love her new show, Ringer, but this is the worst look of the night, by far. The tie-dye print was disgusting, especially with that extravagant silhouette. And what's up with that pony tail? You're not in junior high anymore.

THE BEST

  • Emma Stone (Lanvin): I was so excited to see Emma on the red carpet and she did not disappoint.  That silhouette works so well on her and that plum-raspberry duo is fantastic. The black clutch and shoes kept this look super clean. Also, the smokey eyes are incredible. My only problem with this look is that it's super similar to the Lanvin ensemble she wore to the Glamour event in November.  A different silhouette would've been preferred, but I'm not complaining!
  • Kate Beckinsale (Roberto Cavalli): There's nothing wrong about this look, I'm so impressed. It's unbelievably flattering and the jewels overload works with this dress because the dress is so simple. Plus the hair and makeup? I can't even deal with how perfect his is.
  • Jessica Biel (Elie Saab): Is it weird that I love this? Nope? Good. The high neck and long sleeves works so well with the high slit. The detailing on this dress is gorgeous. To prevent the dress from washing her out, the long hair and pink are perfect.
  • Piper Perabo (Theyskens' Theory): This is one of those looks that you try so hard to hate, but secretly love. Well, it's no secret any more: I'm obsessed with this look. The updo is absolutely gorgeous and the volume of that dress? I'm literally going insane looking at it. The dress is so dramatic, yet super clean. The makeup is super feminine, making the dress standout without being abrasive.
  • Melissa McCarthy (Badgley Mischka): She looks absolutely beautiful! I love that green with her complexion and eye color. Also, this dress was really flattering on her. Adorable.
  • Sarah Hyland (Vintage Dolce& Gabbana): Definitely Sarah Hyland's best look ever. She is the epitome of old-school Hollywood glam here. The dress is absolutely gorgeous on her and I love that mid-forearm bracelet. The feminine makeup and soft up-do is ideal.
  • Ariel Winter (Dolce &Gabbana): Um, how precious does she look? This girl is only thirteen; however, she's so glam. This funky skirt, especially in purple, is super chic on her. I'm borderline obsessed with those loafer-inspired pumps. The soft waves? Divine.  It's youthful, it's quirky, and I love it.
  • Mila Kunis (Dior): The new face of Dior wore her label proud last night.  She played with color so much last year, so I'm really glad that she toned it down here. However, the asymmetrical strap and the quasi-sheer bodice gives this dress the spice that it needs.  The minimal jewels and sleek hair makes this look absolutely classic.
  • Natalie Portman (Lanvin): Once upon a time, someone once said that Natalie Portman was our generation's Audrey Hepburn. After seeing this look, I have to agree. The first thing I thought of, besides how fabulous this is, was Audrey. To me, this Lanvin-especially on her- is such a mix of her Funny Face and Sabrina dresses. The hair and minimals jewels are phenomenal. So classic.
  • Jessica Alba (Gucci): Beyond gorgeous. I think this light lavender- or at least it looks like lavender- looks perfect with her bronzed skin. I'm obsessed with the glitz and gorgeous, simple train. The monochromatic accessories is right on.
  • Rooney Mara (Nina Ricci): Although I'm not too crazy about her hair from a side angle, I'm obsessed with this look. It's all about the small details that make this look phenomenal. The cutouts plus the back peplum? Do I even need to describe how effortlessly chic is this? The slicked back hair and minimal jewels make this look clean and simple. By the way, loving the subtle cat-eye!
  • Heidi Klum (Calvin Klein): Although this look is a little too summery, I'm obsessed. Heidi always does a very dramatic look and a crazy updo. On the contrary, this look is more simple, which I love. the peach plus the gorgeous blue equals amazing. Also, I love love LOVE casual, down hair. Easy, clean, and gorgeous!
  • Dianna Agron (Giles): Definitely a redemption from that Emmys- mess. The silhouette is outstanding and that detailing? Incredible.  The swans and the ruffles are so fabulous and the red lip is perfect. The minimal jewels and the sleek hair keeps the focus on this fantastic dress.
  • Salma Hayek (Gucci) : I will describe this look as "movie-star Jenny from the Block." The sparkles and the column silhouette equals perfection, especially paired with the "movie-star Jenny from the Block" curls.  The earrings give this look the perfect amount of glamour without going overboard. The simple makeup brings this diva look back down to Earth.
  • Charlize Theron (Dior): As  Charlize says in her commercial, "J'adore Dior." The plunging neckline, plus the high slit, plus the extra hip fabric? Perfection. On most people, I'd hate this. However, Charlize has this certain sophistication and glamour that makes this look seem effortlessly chic. While I hated Michelle Williams' headband, I loved the headband look on Charlize.  Because Charlize can pull off anything, obviously.
  • Zooey Deschanel (Custom Prada): This is definitely one of my favorite looks of the night. The colored bodice is perfectly coupled with the basic, black skirt. The 60's inspired hair cut is to die for, especially with the feminine makeup. Ugh, she's adorable.
  • Sofia Vergara (Vera Wang): Fabulous. Sofia definitely has a certain silhouette that works for her body; however, her styling is improving:  more sophisticated and clean. This navy color is phenomenal and I love  the bunched fabric on the dress' skirt: so flattering! On a side note, how much do you love how Sofia says "Vera Wang." I always know this hysterical lady will be sporting "Verda Wong."
  • Claire Danes (J. Mendel): This dress is number one in my mind.  I'm literally going crazy over this dress. This is the perfect mix of glamourous and edge. All of the different textures truly made this dress a show-stopper. The hair and perky pink lip gave this look a hint of femininity.  Like can we just look at how incredible this is:

A Chic New Year

New Year's Eve screams three things to me: reflection, redemption, and a fabulous outfit. While we should definitely reflection on 2011's fashion- the good, the bad, and absolutely dreadful- I'm all about looking forward. So ladies and gent, let's make 2012 the most fabulous year yet. To get things started, let's take a look at my six favorite fashion moments of 2011 and my six most-anticipated for 2012.

REWIND: 2011

1. Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress
Sure it's a little cliche, but how could you not love this wedding dress? Kate looked absolutely radiant and this just validated Sarah Burton as a designer. Yes, I went there.  (Photo Cred)
2. Tibi Fall RTW 2011
Not only was this show a Fashion Week first for me, but the collection is absolutely gorgeous. I love the mix between casual daywear and fantastic cocktail dresses.
3. The Savage Beauty Exhibit
I cried, what more can I say?  It was honestly the most beautiful exhibit I've ever seen.

4. Olivia Wilde at the 2011 Golden Globes (Oscar de la Renta)
My favorite red carpet look of the year, hands down. I loved the juxtaposition with the dress, hair, and spiked Louboutins. Could this get any better? Nope (Photo Cred).

5. Alexander McQueen RTW Spring 2012
My favorite collection of the whole year, I believe. All of the detail is hauntingly beautiful and Burton really upholds the McQueen aesthetic. (Photo Cred)
6. Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee's definitely 2011's ultimate style icon. I love her ability to really take risks whilst embracing her youthfulness. (Photo Cred)

CAN'T WAIT: What's in Store for 2012

1. New Dior Designer
Ever since John Galiano's dramatic departure from Dior, the company has been looking for a new head designer. From Marc Jacobs to Ricardo Tisci, it seem as if the Dior potentials list is a "who's hot in fashion." The latest suspect is Raf Simons, which I'm not personally loving. As long as this next designer doesn't dress like a pirate, we'll all be okay. (Photo Cred)
2. Rooney Mara
I'm calling it now: Rooney Mara will be this year's style icon.  With her awesome portrayal of Lisbeth Salander, I'm so sure that we're going to be seeing a lot of Mara. Also, didn't she rock that Prabal Gurung at the Dragon Tattoo premiere? I say yes. (Photo Cred)
3. Jason Wu for Target
I died of happiness when I heard the news. Though this collection may not be as big as the Missoni for Target collection, but I'll be camping outside for this one! (Photo Cred)
4. Apocalyptic Chic
I'm not going to lie: I'm afraid of 2012. Is the world really going to end?  This year, let's laugh the apparent apocalypse in the face, shall we? (Photo Cred)
5. 2012 Golden Globes
Award season is my favorite season and I cannot wait for the Golden Globes in less than two weeks. Ryan Gosling in a gorgeous tux and Charlize Theron wearing something stunning? This is what I live for! (Photo Cred)

6. More Trendologist Posts!
A little self-centered, I know, but I can't wait to keep you all informed about fun fash-tivities all year long!

Green with Envy

Like I would be able to start this blog tomorrow. The Golden Globes haven't even started as I begin this blog post and I have so much to say! I've been sitting on my couch for three hours, attached to the television and the dresses?! OOOF! Amazing. Some look great and some...well..don't,  but that's what I'm here to talk about!

So let's get started, eh?
THE WORST
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt (Marchesa): I think she's a really pretty lady, but her outfits are just terrible. It was just too matchy and senior prom-esque. And the hair was just a battered bee's nest. There was no "pop", no "wow" factor. I don't know how she did it, but Jennifer Love Hewitt made Marchesa boring. That's just not okay.
  • Julianne Hough (Marchesa): Julianne's biggest problem is that she's trying too hard. Usually, I'd love the idea of this jeweled neckline, but I really hate it here. It's way too forced!  The up- do is really ruining it for me, I think a sleek ponytail would have made this oh so sophisticated. It's just a bit unbalanced, which is the problem. If it had a silt and paired with some fabulous shoes, I'd love. But the hair is poof and the collar is so bold, it just makes the rest of the look boring.
  • Kyra Sedgwick (Pucci): Been there, done that. It's a mix of Diane Kruger and Lea Michelle. I just don't like that. Usually, she has so many fabulous outfits, this was just not good enough. It was boring and not Globes material. This color is way too young for her. I'm just not a fan at all.  Does that sound harsh? I'm really sorry!
  • Julie Bowen (Tadashi Shoji): She's gorgeous and I'm obsessed with her on Modern Family , but not this look. I do love the color on her, but I wish the texture was either on the skirt or bodice, not both. Preferably, the skirt. For her age, it just seems like a bit too much. While she looks gorgeous, her other accessories are also lacking; a metallic bag would've looked so cool with this dress and I would prefer a darker shoe.  But all in all, it was satisfactory.
  • Helena Bonham Carter (Vivienne Westwood): This is the worst outfit in the whole wide world. I repeat, this is tragic. Just to re-emphasize the fact, just look at this and cringe. I don't care how quirky you want to be, what makes us unique makes us shine, but MATCH YOUR SHOES. Nothing about this is alright, but it would've been a bit better if she matched her shoes. Does she have a stylist? She should get one. This is horrendous. I hate this more than I've ever hated a dress. This an insult.
Photo Cred
  • January Jones (Versace): If this is best dressed, I will think something's wrong with fashion today. This is completely taste-less.  Yes, she's a gorgeous woman, but this is too much. People may not know this, but it is possible for people to show some skin, look sexy, and remain classy.  Her hair and makeup looks so timeless, but this is so trashy.
  • Emma Stone (Calvin Klein):  I think she looks gorgeous, but I'm just using her Klein dress as ammunition against minimalism. The peachy color blends in with her skin too much and her recently blonde hair makes her look so bland. What would've made this look so much better is a red lip or some dramatic makeup. What I hated was how forgettable it is.
  • Elisabeth Moss (Donna Karan): I'm going to make this really simple: great dress, terrible accessories. This look single-handedly proves how terrible accessories can lead to a terrible look. Am I using the word terrible too much? Oh well. The makeup is too natural and she just looks really really bare. A bracelet or something would've made the world's difference.
  • Sandra Bullock (Jenny Packham): Yes, Sandra's been through some terrible things this year, but that's not an excuse. Her bangs are really emo, as my boyfriend perfectly stated. This dress reminds me of a former ice skater in a retirement home. It's too old and too sparkly for being too old. Maybe she ran out of fuel after her frequent hits last year?
  • Halle Berry (Nina Ricci): This whole long sheer look is really starting to get on my nerves. Halle Berry is extremely sexy,  there's no need to look like a street walker.  That's all I need to say, I believe.
  • Jennifer Lopez (Zuhair Murad): Take off the cape, J.LO, you just look silly! And the makeup was TOO MUCH! And I thought you were going to be a fashionista...
  • Scarlet Johansson (Elie Saab): I think I screamed when I saw this look. Seriously, it was scary. I hated the kimono sleeves and that hair?! EW!! It was just scary. I feel for her break up with Ryan  Reynolds, but once again, no excuse. She just looks so old, which I find bothersome. She is easily one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.  She needs to dress for her age and someone needs to stop teasing her hair.
  • Heidi Klum (Marc Jaccobs): Trust me, I love 70's inspired dresses, but this was not chic. In fact, I really despised this. It takes a lot for a supermodel to look ugly. Congratulations Heidi, you achieved the impossible. If her hair was longer and if the dress wasn't so ugly, this look would be unbelievable. But the hair is so awkward and the dress...ooof ....it looks like it got caught is some kind of laundry disaster. I just don't understand, nobody on Project Runway couldn't do better? Really?
  • Tilda Swinton (something boring): I really despise Tilda Swinton and her minimalist ways. I'm upset.
THE BEST
  • Olivia Wilde (Marchesa): She is such a superstar. I'm obsessed with this. Although shimmer full skirted dresses have been a bit overdone lately (let's think the majority of Rachel Zoe's clients), Wilde made it new with her super straight hair and bob. She made such a beautiful dress look edgy and rockish. Also, have you seen her shoes? SO COOL! I love how she always mixes it up and always looks fierce.
  • Mark Salling (Simon Spurr): Those aviators, that fo-hawk...I'm in love. He could probably wear anything and, with those accessories, still look undeniably sexy and chic. That's all I need to say about this.
  • Jayma Mays (Alberta Ferretti): She looks sooooo sleek in this Ferretti outfit. I love the drastic neckline and back; the sheer netting makes it looks extremely awesome. The black is so striking with her red hair. Usually with black dresses, it's hard to see the detail in pictures. But the details in this dress are not only visible, but extremely striking. She nailed this.
  • Amber Riley (Oliver Tolentino): A completely sparkled dress can be difficult for anyone to rock, especially people who aren't a size 00. Riley, however, looks absolutely incredible. I love how she's embracing her curves; this lady has an amazing voice and she's so adorable!
  • Diana Agron (J.Mendel): She looks like an old school movie star. Incredible. Surprisingly, this color does not wash her out; instead, she looks so timeless. Even though her makeup was light, that did not wash her out either. I don't know, she seems to have a knack for not getting washed out! All in all, she looks heavenly!
  • Jake Gyllenhaal (Burberry): I love a good juxtaposition. Jake's scruff with his cleaned up Burberry is definitely one of my favorites. How can you not love Jake?!  And I love a good bow tie! So Jake and a bow tie is priceless.
  • Lea Michele (Oscar de la Renta): Her personality kind of bothers me, but she really looks flawless. This outfit is perfectly put together. The messy up-do works so well with the ruffled de la Renta dress. And the pink color is so fabulous! I don't think she's ever done something girly before, but I'm loving this. That green cocktail ring is such a great finishing touch. I love love love this!
  • Leighton Meester (Zac Posen): People may think she looks like an old lady in this Posen dress, but I love it! Her makeup and hair is so fresh and youthful. Also, the silt gives the look some va va vroom!
  • Catherine Zeta Jones (Monique Lhuillier): A vision. This emerald looked amazing with her complexion and the silhouette was so age appropriate and beautiful. Is it upsetting I knew this was a Monique Lhuillier dress when I saw it?  Her slicked back hair and dainty jewels went perfectly with this look. Obsessed.
  • Mila Kunis (Vera Wang): Once again, emerald is a fabulous color right now. I love the ruching and tiny details of this dress. What I love about this dress is how she really made this dress youthful. The one shoulder and volumized hair really made this chic edgy and chic, which works perfectly for Mila!
  • Tina Fey (L'Wren Scott): A for Effort! Fey has come a long way from her days of simple black dresses. I thought the velvet was interesting and navy?! She's really growing!  It was age appropriate but something new, which I really appreciated.
  • Megan Fox (Armani Prive): I didn't recognize Megan Fox when I first saw her; she didn't look like a sex symbol, but a movie star. It was so girly, which I loved on Fox: the hair, the dress, the shoes. I loved how the shoes picked up on the sparkle in the Prive dress. And the sparkle on the Prive dress worked well with her metallic clutch. This look wasn't too matchy matchy, but it all worked and made sense. It was so classy, Megan Fox should definitely try this look more often!
AND NOW FOR THE TWO DRESSES THAT CHANGED MY LIFE.

This is the most perfect look ever. She wears a lot of Armani Prive, but this is her finest by far. It is so flattering and unique, even though a lot of people rocked the long look. The sparkles were fabulous and the back...to die for. Also, I love how she wore her hair down; she doesn't do it that much, but the look would've look too restricted otherwise. Can I please steal this dress?!

This Versace dress has a really similar silhouette to Anne's dress, but Angelina is rocking the emerald green, which is so in right now. She always looks so minimalist and boring, frequently wearing blacks and nudes. My jaw legitimately dropped when I saw this. She looked so bright and looked...like a human. Her hair was cascading and the back was great.  I was so happy to see this dress! SO GOOD

Alright, this blog post is too long.
