2012 MTV Movie Awards

If there are two things I'm disgustingly obsessed with, it's Russell Brand and Fun. As we all know by now, Fun is my favorite band- even before "We Are Young." And let's be honest: who doesn't love Russell Brand? I can happily say that I've read both his memoirs, own his comedy DVD, and cannot wait to see Rock of Ages. So obviously I was excited for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Let me just say that the fashion did not disappoint- there were some stellar looks and horrific ensembles that I couldn't have dreamed of if I tried. Ready for a crash-course in the red carpet? Let's hope you are!

The Worst

Shailene Woodley in Stella McCartney: I wish this wasn't on my worst dress list; however, I blame it all on Shailene's hair sylist. Stella's feminine pantsuit looks perfect on Shailene- the top's silhouette gives her a curvy figure while the bare back is super sexy. But that hair ruined everything. As she was accepting her award for "Best Breakout Star," I was too consumed by ill-styled locks...oh and how she kept saying "dude." It's not that the hair was "messy chic," it was literally falling apart. Major no-no. This just goes to show you how crucial your hairstyle can be. (Photo Cred)

Julianne Hough in Sally LaPointe: My heart is actually breaking. There is so much that's wrong with this ensemble, where to begin. The mid-drift? Ab-bearing ensembles are huge this season; however, it's all about proportion. Word from the wise: a crop top, regardless of the sleeves, with a mini skirt is tasteless. Speaking of that skirt, we should talk about that peplum. Wrong trend at the wrong time! No need to sport two edgy trends at once! It's like she's trying to overcompensate for the god-awful straightening job. I'm sure her outfits in Rock ofAges are chicer.  (Photo Cred)

Brooke Hogan: For once, I am genuinely speechless. Like, I'm tying to find the appropriate words to describe my feelings, but all of the phrases I can think of are painfully crass. And for that, I will refrain. But just know that this ensemble makes me sick to my stomach.(Photo Cred)

Though I don't like bashing Elizabeth Banks or Elie Saab,  it's my duty to teach them a valuable lesson. First of all, this jumpsuit scares me. Perhaps it's the detailing, but this playsuit reminds me of a spider. If this outfit wasn't disappointing enough, what is going on with Elizabeth's hair? Trust me, I love the fashion girl bun as much as the next stylista, but she looks way too serious. Lighten up  girl, it's an MTV awards show.(Photo Cred)

Ciara in Balmain: I love the concept, but why is this so short? I'm mildly traumatized. (Photo Cred)

Josh Hutcherson: Sure, this is a terrible photograph, but maybe it'll help show you how horrid this ensemble is. Note to all single guys: drop the hipster hats. Baseball hats? Fine. Knit beanies? Cute. But these indie fedoras? Just stop. They make me uncomfortable and 99.9% of the time, you'll look like an idiot. If that wasn't enough, the proportions of this ensemble was just wrong. Too baggy in some places, but too tight in others (like the upper thigh/ crotch area). I'm concerned. This whole ensemble is also way too wrinkly. He would've been so much better with dark wash jeans and a light chambray. I should be Josh Hutcherson's stylist. Obviously. (Photo Cred)

ZZ Ward:Who are you and why do you look so terrible? For the record, both are serious questions. Stop me if I'm wrong, but all my research makes it seem as if she's wearing a navy suit with a black hat. While I love navy and black together, it looks like she's trying to make them look like one hue. So wrong! The key to mastering a black and navy ensemble is putting them right next to each other. That way, you're telling critics, "I have NOTHING to hide!" Also, what's with that shirt? Sure, I love Urban Outfitters as much as the next teen, but enough is enough!  (Photo Cred)

Lucy Hale in Catherine Malandrino: As much as I love Lucy Hale, and as much as I love color-blocking, this dress has to go. Nothing makes sense! Let's have a crash course in color-blocking, shall we? If you're rocking this colorful trend, make sure the rest of the accessories are neutral. While metallics can be considered neutral on special occasions, this is not one of those occasions.  The metallics and the various colors are competing with each other. A classic case of poor styling, if you will.(Photo Cred)

Nicky Hilton: I'm so confused right now. The dress screams "sweet sixteen," but those pointed shoes are uncomfortably matronly. On a side note, can we just reflect on how skeletal Nicky looks? I feel bad. (Photo Cred)

                     

Mila Kunis in Fendi: If I could have one sound effect to describe this ensemble, it'd be "belgh." This ensemble is either here nor there and a little too short for my liking. Speaking of the length, the hemline looks a little sloppy. It's not even that this dress is horrible: it's just that I expected better from Mila.(Photo Cred)

The Best

Charlize Theron in Lanvin: Though my friends and I found Snow White and the Huntsman to be boring and super long, I must say that I have a mild girl-crush on Charlize Theron. Not only is she a phenomenal actress, but she's always a red carpet staple. Fortunately, she ceases to amaze us. The ketchup red is gorgeous with her complexion and I love the peplum's wave-like effect. The down do and strappy sandals give this ensemble a dash of summery fun. But really, can you ever go wrong in Lanvin?  (Photo Cred)

Emma Stone in Martin Grant: Seriously, this is so flawless. I'm obsessed with the black and beige motif. While the matching shoes and ensemble may sound overbearing in theory, Stone plays with silhouettes to make this interesting. Sophistication hits the MTV Movie Awards as Stone finishes off this ensemble with a gorgeous updo and bright pink lip. This look has been criticized for looking too sophisticated, but would you rather have a million Brooke Hogans running around? (Photo Cred)

Emma Watson in Brood: If anyone can pull off a zany design and make it lovable, it's Emma Watson. Brood's quirky pattern and questionable peplums are deemed stylish through Watson's styling.The bold bracelets and tough, strappy sandals make this whole ensemble rocker chic. Let's be honest, Watson could wear a plastic bag and still be the coolest girl at the party. On a random side note, I just watched the trailer for her new film,  The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and died a little bit on the inside. (Photo Cred)

Kat Graham: Definitely my favorite of the night. She looks sophisticated and super trendy. Since her black gown is long-sleeved, and neither the v neck nor the high slit are too revealing, Graham looks sultry not slutty. The Style Correspondent's gilded accessories prevent another "Angelina's leg" moment by keeping this look fun and youthful (as opposed to overtly vixen). The neutral makeup, slicked back hair, and stunning platform sandals are perfect. Literally, perfect. (Photo Cred)

Chris Hemsworth in Hugo Boss: This is the perfect gentleman apparel for the MTV Movie Awards. Though the concept of the ensemble suggests an uber formal attire, the lack of a jacket is crucial- it makes him look like he's ready to have a good time. And where better than the 2012 MTV Movie Awards? All in all this outfit is relaxed, yet sophisticated. And it doesn't hurt that it's on Chris Hemsworth...(Photo Cred)

Janelle Monae: If you thought Monae was going to wear a dress, you're 110% wrong. What I love about Monae is how dedicated she is to her menswear-inspired style. Though her outfits have the same concept, she never bores us. The ankle hemline and punchy, pink lip gives us something to gush over. Hats off to that! (Photo Cred)

Andy Samberg:  I have this unspoken theory that Andy Samberg and I would make a lovely couple. Don't ask me why, but I have this irrational love for him. This love only deepens with this A+ outfits. To every, single man out there: this is what you should wear every, single day. The suit jacket and polo create a quirky combination; however, the monochromatism makes it acceptable. Samberg's fresh "kicks" gives this look a pop of color as well as a dash of youthfulness. Swoon city? A little bit.(Photo Cred)

The Style Files: Something Unknown to Me Makes You What You Are

It's fair to say that I'm not taking the passing of Davy Jones vey well. No, this isn't me being sarcastic: I'm legitimately upset. When I was little, I was obsessed with retro TV shows. Obviously, the Brady Bunch was my number one.  From the afternoons after pre-school to the nights where I was plauged with chicken pox, Davy Jones' Girl was my jam. I would dance myself silly- also known as doing the Marsha- to that song and still do (especially to the Very Brady Movie's version). So this week's song had to be Girl because, let's be honest, I probably would've had a crush on him if I was a teen during the 1970s.

Style Spiration: Gwyneth Platrow

Are you still going crazy over Gwyneth Paltrow's sleek, superstar, scene-stealing, spectacular Tom Ford moment from last week's Academy Awards? Well, I am. The more that I think about it, the  more that I realize how much of a trendsetter Gwyneth truly is. During her career, she's had so many red carpet moments that we will always remember. What's so interesting about all of these looks is that they're all progressive and sleek. They all make a statement without crossing the line. How does a trip down memory lane sound to all of you? Let's spend this Sunday remembering (and drooling) over all of Gwyneth's looks.

 At the 1999 Academy Awards (Ralph Lauren): There's no better way to start of this review. Whether you tuned into the 1999 Oscars or not, you know this dress if you're the least bit interested in red carpet glamour. From the color to the silhouette to the jewels, everything about this look is so feminine. I find this so ironic because nowadays, Gwyneth dresses super sleek and modern. Even though this dress is undeniably feminine, the overall simplicity is timeless. (Photo Cred)

Being fabulous in 1996 (Gucci): I think Gwyneth has a knack for picking out super powerful Tom Ford designs.Perfectly executed, velvet, and in a luscious red? Hold me back: it's almost too much to handle. To prevent a Chuck Bass moment- though I do love Chuck Bass and everything he wears- she kept the rest of this look simple: the makeup, the hair, the accessories and even the blouse underneath the suit. In short: Gwyneth did menswear before it was cool.(Photo Cred)

At the 2008 Cannes Film Festival (Chanel): How breathtaking is this look? Whoever styled this did a fantastic job of giving this ensemble some movement and excitement from top to bottom. The arrangement of the glamour-packed sparkles made this look glamourous and not overbearing. Her updo and feminine makeup allows us to focus on that beyond neckline without completely ignoring Gwyneth. (Photo Cred)

At the 2007 Academy Awards (Zac Posen):  I usually don't love peach, but this is fantastic. The high-hugging silhouette and the sheer components of this dress are to die for: this dress commands attention without it being overly aggressive. The non-matching bracelets on each arm give this look a healthy dash of quirky symmetry, which I love. The long locks keep this look refreshing and fun. Oh, and that red lip? • Mila Kunis at Dior 2012 Fall RTW (Dior): I know, I know: I still need to cover London, Milan, and Paris fashion week. But how amazing is this look? Mila destroys the stereotypical European look by wearing something light and overtly feminine. I love how she plays with pastels and whites as well as texture. The straight hair and black belt give this look a very Parisian feel. 
• Claire Danes at Vanity Fair's Academy Awards After Party (Valentino): Yes, my jaw actually dropped when I saw this. The dress is so extravagant and timeless. The minimal jewels allow us to focus on the dress, which deserves as much attention as humanly possible. The glamourous updo and the matching pink lip brings this whole look together.
• Rosie Huntington- Whiteley at Heathrow (Vanessa Bruno, Burberry): I love love LOVE this take on personal style. Navy is such an unappreciated color so I love how she incorporates that Vanessa Bruno blazer into her ensemble. Don't be fooled: navy and black look fabulous together. Rosie finishes this look off with a leopard scarf: my kind of fashionista! 
• Olivia Palermo at Dior 2012 Fall RTW: This look gives me goosebumps. Olivia Palermo always knows how to create a look that is clean, eclectic, and fashion-forward. I'm obsessed with the mix of that printed dress and her cage heels. The cardigan gives this look some Parisian chicness and that side fish tail braid? Too good to be true! 
• Selena Gomez at Vanity Fair's Academy Awards After Party (Dolce & Gabbana): This look is heaven. This form fitting Dolce & Gabbana really shows off her feminine figure in the classiest way possible.  love that soft grey with her complexion and the light lip. Should we talk about that beading? To die for. I love her shorter do with those drop earrings. Overall how sophisticated does Selena look? Now that her boy toy is legal, I suppose she's allowed to dress like a woman.

The Style Files: That's Alright, I Found a Martyr in my Bed Tonight

As you probably know by now, I'm obsessed with Fun. Their album, "Some Nights," is literally life-changing. I actually haven't listened to other music all week. Anyway,  one of my favorite songs from this album is "Some Nights." It's essentially an alternative version of The Lion King soundtrack. Yes, it's that intense.

Style Spiration: The Oscars 

In honor of the Oscars- can you believe they're today- I'm dedicating this edition of  Style Spiration to some of my favorite Oscar looks. 

Natalie Portman at the 2009 Oscar Awards (Rodarte):  I can't even deal with how stunning this is. Not only is this dress perfectly executed, the quasi beaded bodice is gorgeous. What makes this look for me is the fabulous makeup. It's not overbearing by any means; however, it's so innovative. Pink lip and purple eyeliner? Fantastic. (Photo Cred)

Mila Kunis at the 2011 Academy Awards (Elie Saab):  This was definitely one of my favorite dresses from last year: the light purple works so well with the delicate lace. The minimal jewels keeps the focus on the dress' gorgeous detailing. Some people had issues with the light lace over her chest, but I think it makes lace look sexy. Translation? It makes the impossible possible. The glamourous hair and the feminine makeup finish this look perfectly. (Photo Cred)

Charlize Theron at the 2005 Academy Awards (John Galliano for Dior):  I'm going crazy over this detailing as well as the color. Nobody ever wears a color like this to the Oscars. This look is so successful because there's a fun play between smooth pieces and textured pieces. Her simple clutch acts as a neutral and balances the dress' ruffles and her super-intense hair. (Photo Cred)

 Michelle Williams at the 2006 Oscars (Vera Wang): Her stylist aced this look from head to toe, William's ensemble is daring and Oscar-appropriate. First of all, I love the yellow because it's so bold. And mixed with that red lip? Forget about it! The detailled neckline, the draped waist, and that fantastic train add so much style to a simple silhouette. Though I think this look would be perfectly fine without the necklace, it adds that dash of personal style. Also the low side bun? To die for.(Photo Cred) 

Nicole Kidman at the 2007 Oscars (Balenciaga): This is the definition of red carpet glamour. The simple silhouette plus that avant garde bow? Stunning. Also, that red is such show-stopper. To add an extra dash of glamour, Kidman piles on the sparkly jewels. Though that may seem like a fashion faux pas, her straight hair neutralizes the flashy bracelets.(Photo Cred)

Cate Blanchett at the 2011 Oscars (Givenchy): Serious question: can Cate Blanchett do any wrong? This dress isn't just stylish, it's a piece of art. I'm still going crazy over all of the intricate detailing. And that random dash of yellow? To die for. Thankfully, Blanchett's stylist knew to keep the rest of this look minimal. Her sleek hair, natural makeup, and dainty jewels make this look heaven on the red carpet. (Photo Cred)

The Weekly

• Emma Stone at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon (Elie Saab): This look is so classic and youthful at the same time. The silhouette screams girly and the detailing is beyond fabulous. To keep this look cohesive, Stone's wavy hair and pink lip adds even more femininity. The nude shoes elongate the leg and keeps the focus on the gorgeous dress. 
• Michelle Williams at the Mulberry Dinner (Mulberry): Sultry versus sweet! I love the play between the leather and lace. And the silhouette? Fantastic.  Keeping this look monochromatic allows us to focus on the fabulous details. The pretty pink lip gives an appropriate splash of color. 
• Kate Beckinsale at the Costume Designer's Guild Awards (Vivienne Westwood): Only Kate Beckinsale can make a Vivienne Westwood dress mainstream and super glamourous. The draping plus the dramatic neckline is too good to be true. I also am obsessed with this light grey because it's both versatile and innovative. The statement earrings and the super glam hair keeps the focus on that fabulous neckline. J'adore.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

No, the most wonderful time of the year is not Christmas. Silly fashionistas and stylish suaves, the most wonderful time of the year is award season. Hooray, it's finally here! While some people have been super stoked for the big football weekend, I've been counting down the hours until the Golden Globes' red carpet. If you live under a rock, let me make this easy for you: I love the Golden Globes and will always love the Golden Globes most. Well, besides the Met Ball. Anywho, I love the creativity and the collaboration between film and television. This year, I went really hard-core and had my own fashion predictions. For some, I was spot on. Others, well...nobody's perfect.

My Predictions:

• Fabulous silhouettes and barely any column dresses: On the spring runways, we saw so many gorgeous silhouettes a la old school Balenciaga: Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta, etc.
• Color, color, color: If you saw the Elie Saab spring runway, you'll understand this prediction. 
• Sparkle and art-deco: Gucci had some absolutely fabulous sparkled numbers as well as de la Renta's pre-fall show.

What Really Happened...

• Neutrals: This took me by surprise, but black, white, and nude stole the show.  Actresses like Mila Kunis, Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, and Julianne Moore all strutted down the carpet in these hues.
• Sparkles: Spot on, yes? Thank you Salma Hayek and Evan Rachel Wood for helping me out here.
• Volume galore: So much volume it made me so happy! Stars like Sarah Michelle Gellar,  Julianne Moore, and Elle Macpherson ditched the column silhouette.

Now that the trend report is in, it's all about the best and worst dressed.  And leave it to me to give you my honest opinion. All in all, it was a fabulous red carpet and there were so many looks that I loved. 

THE WORST 

• Lea Michele (Marchesa): Well the impossible happened: a Marchesa dress looking horrific. I love Georgia Chapman and everything she does at Marchesa, but this truly looked terrible on Lea. I don't really think this was the right person or place to be wearing this dress. Also, I hate Lea Michele's diva-status: she needs to be tamed. She's not Beyonce and she cannot wear this. Beyonce could.
• Missi Pyle (Junko Yoskioka): Honestly, this looks like a dumb prom dress that's on clearance. I hate that bow and the tulle-esque layering. This is too cheesy I don't even want to blog about this anymore.  A waste of fabric. And it's not even styled right! 
• Kelly Osbourne (Zac Posen): I think my mom hit the nail on the head when she said that Kelly Osbourne was trying to look like Carolina Herrera. This dress would've look beautiful on Helen Miren, but Kelly Osbourne? She's purposely aging myself and I don't know why. Besides, what's up with that lavender-gray hair? Disgusting. 
• Kristen Wiig (Bill Blass): I love Kristen Wiig; however, I hate this look. While I love the nude with her chocolate brown locks, the jewels are way too bold.  It's just look like she's trying way too hard, which I don't like.
• Amanda Peet (Mac Jacobs): This is definitely not Globes-worthy. The ruffles are not chic in the slightest and the accessories are so primitive.  However, this would be great for a picnic! 
• Mary J.Blige (Michael Kors): Re-pul-sive. Yes, the halter looks fabulous on her, but what's with those feathers? Maybe this dress would look good on someone else- I'm thinking Zoe Saldana- but it's just not working with Mary J. What about jewels overload? Diaster. It's just too much of terrible things.
• Reese Witherspoon (Zac Posen): Don't get me wrong: I love Reese and I love love LOVE Zac, but this was not a good fit. The silhouette isn't too flattering and would look much better on a taller woman. Also, where is the styling? The makeup is barely there, and not in a good way.  Jewels? Where are they? I would love a killer bracelet or gorgeous earrings. Nothing! It could've been a million times better.
• Madonna (Reem Acra): No, just no. It was all so good until the skirt. The dress would've been fabulous if it was completely metallic or completed flapped fabric. But both? Not working. Also, the cross is way too big and looks a little cheesy. 
• Elle Macpherson (Zac Posen): She is so beautiful; however, Elle needs a new stylist. I'm actually confused as to how someone would think the chintzy jewels would look good with this dress. There's too much going on to even respect Zac Posen's creativity and construction.  She should've had minimal jewels- preferably a cocktail ring- and a soft updo.  Too much of everything, way too much. Major disappointment.
• Julie Bowen (Reem Acra): No, Julie Bowen, no. She literally kicked fashion-tushy at the Emmys; however, this is too much. The dress is alright, but it was styled completely wrong. I understand where her hair stylist was coming from, but the Lucy-inspired curls are awkward: a soft updo would have been a million times better. 
• Sarah Michelle Gellar (Monique Lhuillier): She told Ryan Seacrest that her daughter picked out this dress. Well, SMG, you should probably find a stylist.  I love her new show, Ringer, but this is the worst look of the night, by far. The tie-dye print was disgusting, especially with that extravagant silhouette. And what's up with that pony tail? You're not in junior high anymore.

THE BEST 

• Emma Stone (Lanvin): I was so excited to see Emma on the red carpet and she did not disappoint.  That silhouette works so well on her and that plum-raspberry duo is fantastic. The black clutch and shoes kept this look super clean. Also, the smokey eyes are incredible. My only problem with this look is that it's super similar to the Lanvin ensemble she wore to the Glamour event in November.  A different silhouette would've been preferred, but I'm not complaining! 
• Kate Beckinsale (Roberto Cavalli): There's nothing wrong about this look, I'm so impressed. It's unbelievably flattering and the jewels overload works with this dress because the dress is so simple. Plus the hair and makeup? I can't even deal with how perfect his is. 
• Jessica Biel (Elie Saab): Is it weird that I love this? Nope? Good. The high neck and long sleeves works so well with the high slit. The detailing on this dress is gorgeous. To prevent the dress from washing her out, the long hair and pink are perfect.
• Piper Perabo (Theyskens' Theory): This is one of those looks that you try so hard to hate, but secretly love. Well, it's no secret any more: I'm obsessed with this look. The updo is absolutely gorgeous and the volume of that dress? I'm literally going insane looking at it. The dress is so dramatic, yet super clean. The makeup is super feminine, making the dress standout without being abrasive.  
• Melissa McCarthy (Badgley Mischka): She looks absolutely beautiful! I love that green with her complexion and eye color. Also, this dress was really flattering on her. Adorable. 
• Sarah Hyland (Vintage Dolce& Gabbana): Definitely Sarah Hyland's best look ever. She is the epitome of old-school Hollywood glam here. The dress is absolutely gorgeous on her and I love that mid-forearm bracelet. The feminine makeup and soft up-do is ideal. 
• Ariel Winter (Dolce &Gabbana): Um, how precious does she look? This girl is only thirteen; however, she's so glam. This funky skirt, especially in purple, is super chic on her. I'm borderline obsessed with those loafer-inspired pumps. The soft waves? Divine.  It's youthful, it's quirky, and I love it.
• Mila Kunis (Dior): The new face of Dior wore her label proud last night.  She played with color so much last year, so I'm really glad that she toned it down here. However, the asymmetrical strap and the quasi-sheer bodice gives this dress the spice that it needs.  The minimal jewels and sleek hair makes this look absolutely classic.
• Natalie Portman (Lanvin): Once upon a time, someone once said that Natalie Portman was our generation's Audrey Hepburn. After seeing this look, I have to agree. The first thing I thought of, besides how fabulous this is, was Audrey. To me, this Lanvin-especially on her- is such a mix of her Funny Face and Sabrina dresses. The hair and minimals jewels are phenomenal. So classic. 
• Jessica Alba (Gucci): Beyond gorgeous. I think this light lavender- or at least it looks like lavender- looks perfect with her bronzed skin. I'm obsessed with the glitz and gorgeous, simple train. The monochromatic accessories is right on. 
• Rooney Mara (Nina Ricci): Although I'm not too crazy about her hair from a side angle, I'm obsessed with this look. It's all about the small details that make this look phenomenal. The cutouts plus the back peplum? Do I even need to describe how effortlessly chic is this? The slicked back hair and minimal jewels make this look clean and simple. By the way, loving the subtle cat-eye! 
• Heidi Klum (Calvin Klein): Although this look is a little too summery, I'm obsessed. Heidi always does a very dramatic look and a crazy updo. On the contrary, this look is more simple, which I love. the peach plus the gorgeous blue equals amazing. Also, I love love LOVE casual, down hair. Easy, clean, and gorgeous! 
• Dianna Agron (Giles): Definitely a redemption from that Emmys- mess. The silhouette is outstanding and that detailing? Incredible.  The swans and the ruffles are so fabulous and the red lip is perfect. The minimal jewels and the sleek hair keeps the focus on this fantastic dress.
• Salma Hayek (Gucci) : I will describe this look as "movie-star Jenny from the Block." The sparkles and the column silhouette equals perfection, especially paired with the "movie-star Jenny from the Block" curls.  The earrings give this look the perfect amount of glamour without going overboard. The simple makeup brings this diva look back down to Earth.
• Charlize Theron (Dior): As  Charlize says in her commercial, "J'adore Dior." The plunging neckline, plus the high slit, plus the extra hip fabric? Perfection. On most people, I'd hate this. However, Charlize has this certain sophistication and glamour that makes this look seem effortlessly chic. While I hated Michelle Williams' headband, I loved the headband look on Charlize.  Because Charlize can pull off anything, obviously. 
• Zooey Deschanel (Custom Prada): This is definitely one of my favorite looks of the night. The colored bodice is perfectly coupled with the basic, black skirt. The 60's inspired hair cut is to die for, especially with the feminine makeup. Ugh, she's adorable. 
• Sofia Vergara (Vera Wang): Fabulous. Sofia definitely has a certain silhouette that works for her body; however, her styling is improving:  more sophisticated and clean. This navy color is phenomenal and I love  the bunched fabric on the dress' skirt: so flattering! On a side note, how much do you love how Sofia says "Vera Wang." I always know this hysterical lady will be sporting "Verda Wong." 
• Claire Danes (J. Mendel): This dress is number one in my mind.  I'm literally going crazy over this dress. This is the perfect mix of glamourous and edge. All of the different textures truly made this dress a show-stopper. The hair and perky pink lip gave this look a hint of femininity.  Like can we just look at how incredible this is:

The Style Files: What You Doing for the Rest of Your Life?

Before I get started on this fun Sunday edition, I feel the need to share my latest music obsession with you beautiful people. The way I see it, why not listen to some fun tunes when reading all about fashion? Matt Kearney's  new song, "Hey Mama," is so cute and he wrote it about his wife! Don't all wish that we had musician lovers who wrote songs about us? Yeah...it'll happen, ladies.

Sorry for that, but I felt it was necessary.

Style-spiration

Any aspiring fashionista should know about Mr. Tommy Ton and his amazing skill to capture some of the finest in personal style. I swear, I always get so jealous and feel terrible about my own personal style when I see these pictures. To be more positive, I should say that his pictures serve as a fabulous source of inspiration. And Ton's latest collection, "Moscow on the Seine," was mind blowing.  While I was insanely jealous of all of the subjects, my favorite was Miroslava Duma. The former editor for Harper's Bazaar Russia and Russian "It Girl" is officially my fashion icon. Not only do I love her outfits, but she has such versatility in what she wears and everything looks so effortless. To some extent, everyone's guilty of trying too hard at one point of their fashion career or another. Yes, fashion is supposed to be risky and fun; however, but you should never dress in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable. I feel like a lot of people say, "Well, I can't pull this or that off." While some of those issues may be physical, I feel like people "can't pull things off" when they don't have the confidence. When you have the confidence and wear something your comfortable in, the look will seem effortless, most of the time. I'm not going to make this Style-spiration about "being comfortable about yourself." This is a fashion blog, not an after school special so I'll stop. But I do want to recognize Miroslava's versatility.  I should say though, since Miroslava is rather obscure, I do not know the places and or designers of the following pictures. I know, I need to step up my game...sorry! 

I know I just talked about breaking up a monochromatic look with some skin in the Ann-Margret blog post; however, this look works because the black booties and white clutch gives this look some excitement. Of course this look was meticulously planned, but the vintage-esque aviators and the windswept hair makes this look so cool and chic. The monochromatic look could look really granny, but the styling made this look refreshing and chic.  It looks easy, right? (Photo Cred)

This look isn't as relaxed as the look above; instead, Miroslava is embracing the New Yorker urban glamour: is it sad I can tell that she's in New York from the background? Anyways, this look is awesome because, even though she is in head-to-toe black, there are many strong silhouettes and lines in this look. The shoes have an interesting shape and the shape of the dress is so glam. Since this is more high-fashion than some of her other looks, the straight hair was absolutely perfection. (Photo Cred)

And what about this look? Classic femininity with an edgy flair. The structured blazer, paired with ladylike handbag, is the definition of classic. But I love how Miroslava didn't just leave it at that and say, "Well now it's time for my bridge game, cheerio!' Instead, she made it funky with the patterned dress, which reminds me a lot of stained glass so we'll go with that. Since there's so much going on in this look, clean makeup and straight hair is great: she's like a blank palette for all of this fun fash-tivities. I really like that term, fash-tivities. I think I'll use it more *writing it on a MacBrook sticky*.(Photo Cred)

I don't lie to you guys.

 This is a prime example of confidence being the equivalent to effortlessness. On anyone else, I would think this look is gross and ridiculous to the extreme. But it's different on Miroslava. Maybe I'm crazy and in a "I love her style" frenzy, but I really do think that really carries it well. It's the quintessential personal style. Most of these pieces I couldn't picture being styled together, but that's the thing about taking risks in fashion, That's the only way fashion is fun, after all. But her effortless attitude, obviously I would totally know just by this one picture, transforms this look from a "what will other people think" situation to a "what... you don't wear baggy jeans and a leather jacket?" I think we should all strive to make our outfits kooky, but have the same tone as the latter example. (Photo Cred)

• Mila Kunis at the Friends with Benefits premiere (Lanvin):  Awesome. Purely awesome. This look is very simplistic, which I feel Mila doesn't do a lot, but really sexy because it was simple. You dig? The midi hemline is really now, yet classy. But the ruching gives the dress some va va vroom. Since she didn't add on the jewels, the chunky black pumps are a solid accessory.  In short, she looks like a classier Kardashian, nothing against the Kardashians because I love them.
• Emma Stone at the Friends with Benefits premiere (Giambattista Valli): One of my friends and I have this unintentional book club situation, we just read The Help, so I'm having such an Emma Stone moment. This is supreme color blocking, woohoo Emma Stone! The concept is really simple, but I'm obsessed with the skirt's silhouette. GORGEOUS. Styling it with a nude pump and sparse gold jewels was smart, since the skirt was such an attention grabber.  Perfection.

The Weekly: You Can't Start a Fire Without a Spark

It's really bittersweet to think this my last weekly as a college freshman. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely excited for the summer: fabulous internship, fabulous friends, fabulous food- fabulous everything. But, at the same time, I'm going to miss freshman year: the good, the bad.  We're now in our study week for finals and I, only having one final on Thursday, am very bored. I've watched a plethora of movies, eagerly packed 60% of my necessities, and on Friday, went to the MFA with my lovely friend and future roommie. We saw some fabulous Chihuly, got lost in Asia, and came across an absolutely stunning fashion exhibit about Arnold Scaasi, American couturier. "I'm sensing a blog about this," Hannah told me. She knows me so well!

What I admire most about Arnold Scassi's work, besides his closeness to his cliente- is how detailed orientated all of his pieces of work are.  Looking at his uses of sequins, metal, rosettes, and mink is outstanding. It's a shame because I feel like we only see this kind of detail from a few design houses. Minimalism shminimalism, ladies and gents this is iconic glamour that will be iconic and glamourous forever and ever. The necklines, hemlines, and silhouettes are so timeless.

I love the draping on the front and the colors and so feminine and classic. 

Obsessed with these metallic appliques. I feel like this is something we'd see  a jacket or dress made out of today; however, this bad boy is a DRESS.

This one was Hannah's favorite, and  I can totally understand why. The halter top, baggy silhouette, and flower appliques are so youthful and truly hold true to the test of time. Natalie Wood originally wore this, but can't we see a young/ not-pregnant Natalie Portman rocking this dress to a premiere?

These rosettes intertwined with feathers and mink was to die for. Literally, j'adore. We'd typically see this on a Monique Lhuillier wedding dress, but this was a gala dress back in the day. Ugh, they're so good. 

This dress, "Little Egypt" is definitely the most detail orientated of the exhibit. The colors remind me of a trip to the beach, or the Atlantis Resort. Embedded in the lace are metal, coral, sequins, etc. The neckline of this dress makes it so retro; however, the mullet hem makes it up-to-date with today's trends.

Obsessed with the glass,plastic, silk braid in this 1962 resort jacket. Even though we love bright whites as a trend for this season, Something about this beige and dusty rose, seen behind the jacket, gives such a feminine vibe and reminds me of the older Miss Dior Cherie advertisements.

My favorite. Let's be honest, who wouldn't want to rock an awesome red coat? Scaasi designed this one  for Arlene Francis's role in the Broadway play, Once More, with Feeling.  The silver and red combination are absolutely striking. Personally, the simplicity of the silver dress is the perfect contrast to the drama of the red jacket. This reminds me of something a vintage Barbe doll would have.

ONE MORE THING

This is my favorite piece from the Chihuly exhibit, by far. In reality, this piece was HUGE and all of the detail was so impressive and inspirational. I just wanted to share it.

And now, ladies and gents, onto the weekly!

In short, nothing wowed me this week. These celebs need to work harder.

• Mila Kunis at the White House Correspondents' Dinner (Versace): Even when she look so sleek and refined, Mila Kunis is still the coolest girl at the party. The hair and makeup is perfect: dramatic enough without her looking like she's in Black Swan. But she was...awkward. Anyways,  the gold button and high silt made this dress exciting and youthful. Also, the architectural bodice is super awesome.  I'm really glad she didn't overdo it on the accessories: the gold cuff is just enough to show some glamour but keep it cool. Bravo! 
• Kate Hudson at the Something Borrowed Premiere (Versace): Well, this weekly was dedicated to Versace, apparently.  Kate Hudson looks radiant, a major difference from the mess at the Met Ball on Monday. While I give her props for trying to show off her baby belly, I think this chiffon draping is much more flattering for this pregnancy. The hair and makeup is so natural and the asymmetrical strap gives this dress some spice, even if it does look a little bit like Prom. The canary colored clutch is such an interesting companion to to this lemon dress. I do wish she added a nice bracelet or some big earrings. But all in all, I'm regaining my faith in Kate.

On a final note, I want to wish the coolest, funniest, nicest, chicest Mommy I know (mine) a Happy Mothers Day. She's the best and she's always been my number one fan. Thanks Mom,  I love you!

The Weekly: Nevermind, I'll Find Someone Like You

First of all, let me just say that my love for Adele isn't adequately portrayed in this blog. I've been listening to her new album ,"21", nonstop since it was released and lately, I've been listening to it even more. I was a huge fan of her previous album, but this is musical gold. I'm not turning the Trendologist into a music/fashion/culture blog, but everyone should love Adele. 

Moving on. I am home for spring break! It has been, for the most part, lovely: eating good food, seeing incredible friends, and going on shopping sprees with my mom. I have a confession to make however:

I am addicted to TJ.Maxx.

What a silly thing to be obsessed with, one may think. Oh you have no idea. At my local TJ. Maxx, they have opened fashion heaven on earth, aka "Runway." Whenever I come home from college, my mom and I hit up Runway AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. In fact, we may be going again right now! I think when you see my INCREDIBLE PURCHASES, you'll understand.

• Mila Kunis at Cosmopolitan's Fun and Fearless Awards (Boca Negra): Mila Kunis is officially the epitome of casual chic. I am obsessed with this white suit. If anyone else were to do it, I would think it looked like a tacky Vegas ensemble. But, obviously, it doesn't on Mila. I like how she paired the luxe suit with a simple white tank, one that you could pick up almost anywhere. It dresses this look down and makes it fun. The black clutch adds a nice pop and I love how her hair always has those beachy waves- SO JEALOUS! 
• Jennifer Aniston at a fragrance launch (Valentino): This might sound really weird, but just roll with it: Jennifer Aniston is like a fine wine. I swear she looks better and better in every picture I see of her. Brad who?  This Valentino look is obviously no exception to my sketchy and cliche metaphor.  The length of it is very age appropriate; however, the asymmetrical makes this dress young and chic. I'm not a huge fan of the color, I think it makes her look too young, but it was a nice change from black.  But thankfully, she did not accessorize because I personally think that would make her look like she's trying to relive her youth. But all in all, fabulous!
