Red Carpet Review: 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Everyone who is glued to their television set, laptop or techie-friendly tablet during awards season knows that the Screen Actors Guild Awards rarely provide jaw-dropping ensembles. But after a less-than-exciting Golden Globes red carpet, attendees cranked up the sartorial notch immensely for the lower-brow soiree. Like an idyllic fashion buffet, there was a little bit of everything: winter whites in slim silhouettes, pops of luxe jewel tones, and some pretty pastels sprinkled in between. In short, fashion fanatics everywhere are currently experiencing mild heart palpitations after inspecting this show's red carpet. But for every impressive outfit was the occasional style miss. Skipped the red carpet pre-show? Check out the best and worst looks from last night's event.

The Worst.

Jennifer Aniston in Galliano: Two words: Rack City. Aniston has an enviable body, but this plunging neckline (and accompanied necklace) puts too much emphasis on her cleavage versus the entire look. Between the tapestry- esque pattern and clingy silhouette, the dress looks like something that Cher wore one of her tours many moons ago.  While the gilded hue perfect matches Aniston's blonde locks, this case of monochrome is inexplicably unimpressive. Fashion fanatics will never turn to the Cake actress for on-the-pulse style choices; however, this look is equal parts "blah" and "shield your eyes."

Lupita Nyong'o in Elie Saab: Once upon a time,  also known as 2014, Nyong'o was the reigning queen of the red carpet. In the event you've recently been diagnosed with award season amnesia, allow "cape" and "Nairobi blue" to trigger your memory.  But 2015 is turning into classic case of  "new year, new you" gone wrong as the Academy Award winner's once unanimously adored ensembles now have a split jury. While the deep neckline in perfectly juxtaposed with an otherwise modest silhouette, this dress is too busy. Together, the long sleeves, floor-grazing skirt, and clashing fabric are an eye-sore. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan: Unless you've been living under a rock for the past six years, you know that the Modern Family actress is an utter bombshell. A frequent client of Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang, every dress Vergara wears on a red carpet highlights the funny woman's enviable frame. Yet, this red Donna Karan number felt like the sexy notch was turned up so far, the dial broke and is now malfunctioning. The sheer paneling looks is tacky while the mismatched straps gives the impression that one of them has spontaneously snapped off. Don't get your hopes up, fashion nerds; we will never see Vergara in a masculine pantsuit or voluminous dress, but this feels overbearingly sexy.

Julia Roberts in Givenchy: As the new face of Givenchy, it's no surprise that Julia Roberts would opt for a Riccardo Tisci original. But out of all the extraordinary ready-to-wear and couture pieces to choose from, why would the megawatt actress opt for something that Vivian Ward wouldn't even wear (with or without Edward Lewis's credit card and a slew of Rodeo Drive stores)? The biggest problem with this look is the lack of proper tailoring: the corseted top looks too tight and the pants are too bunched up at the bottom. To worsen an already tragic look, the sheeny panels around the pockets, lapels and bodice create an odd shape instead of contouring Roberts's figure. This look could've been salvaged with a killer pair of heels, yet these peep-toes are universally lackluster.

Natalie Dormer in Naeem Khan: Though the Screen Actors Guild Awards rarely prompt head-turning ensembles, the red carpet looks are usually sophisticated.  Unfortunately, Dormer's asymmetrical dress was not up to par with conventional SAG ensembles. From head-to-toe, this looks screams junior department. Between the mosiac pattern around the waist the basic one shoulder, this dress is comparable to a senior prom outfit. And what's going up with that childish pinned back hair? Opting for a solid dress with the same silhouette and a messy updo would've made the world's difference.  

The Best.

Kiera Knightley in Erdem: After a sartorial stint as a modern-day milkmaid, which excited no one, it appears that The Imitation Game actress learned her lesson. Though the British brand is a favorite amongst style savants, Erdem doesn't receive as much mainstream red carpet credit as it deserves. Translation? It's exciting to see such a megawatt star support her British roots. The expectant mother admitted to not wearing skintight clothing during her pregnancy, and the empire waist and sheer paneling to subdue the plunging neckline highlights Knightley's maternal while remaining comfortable. If this dress couldn't be more perfect, the vibrant purple and delicate texture are like creamy icing on an already superior cake. Knightley's beachy half-up hairdo and and ear cuff keep this look SAG Awards- appropriate.

Felicity Jones in Balenciaga: In true Brit fashion, the Screen Actor Guild nominee is buttoned up and ladylike as ever in a soft pink column dress. While it's no secret that the streamlined shape isn't revolutionary, the cross bodice offers an essence of elegant modernity that perfectly complements Jones's fashion persona. Combined with her dark features, the light pink hue offers a striking color contrast. To highlight the interesting bodice, the star opted for gorgeous dangling earrings and bare wrists. In an equally heavenly color palette, the earrings and sleek clutch acted as the perfect finishing touches to a best dressed contender. 

Julianne Moore in Givenchy: This awards season is shaping up to be one big love affair between Julianne Moore and Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci that fashionistas never want to end.  Forget Kermit, it's not easy being red... a redhead, that is. However, with a glistening emerald dress, the frontrunner this awards season makes it look so easy! While dresses with lots of beading or embellishments oftentimes look heavier than designed, the languid silhouette and tank-like straps prevent this dress from appearing bulky. And can we discuss those earrings for a moment? Instead of opting for a colorless diamond, as most red carpet veterans do, adding a purple earring to a green dress offers a quirky, yet undeniably stylish, color combination. With a fresh face and a wavy lob, Moore's beauty regime perfectly complements her ensemble.

Emilia Clarke in Donna Karan Atelier:  Though the Game of Thrones actress isn't the most sought after star on the red carpet, she always delivers. Luckily, Clarke did not disappoint at the SAG Awards. Still attempting to get over the Lupita's cape moment of 2014,  this dress is a moodier take on one of the best ways to make a sartorial statement during awards seasons. "Black & Blue" isn't just a Backstreet Boys album, it is an effortlessly chic color palette that is bound to make turn heads.  Frosted head to hand in Cartier jewels, the actress is quintessentially red carpet ready. The berry lip adds to this look without competing against the dress's dual-tone color scheme. 

Naomi Watts in Balenciaga: No matter how many high-octane hues or patterns grace a red carpet, it's almost law that any glamourous event will showcase a large percentage of black dresses. Though undeniably chic, noir ensembles can be a little boring after several award shows. However, nothing spices up a sea of dark dresses quite like a navy getup. Fetching yet subtle, dark blue is an underestimated neutral. And against Watts's light coloring? Heavenly. Not to mention the off-the-shoulder textured detailing brings an ordinary dress to the next level. Coiffed to perfection, and polished off with a baby pink lip, the actress gives this progressive dress a feminine edge.

Rosamund Pike in Christian Dior Haute Couture: Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. A vast improvement from the string bikini in dress form that Pike sported at the Golden Globes, the Gone Girl actress nails it in a ultra voluminous haute couture outfit. The touchable texture and dimensional shape breathes some life back into the typical black dress. Sure, it's a lot of fabric; however, it works because of the shortened hem in the front and Pike's model-esque stature. With the complete look in mind, a simple black pump and minimal jewels create a cohesive look while emphasizing the dress's beautiful craftsmanship. On the beauty front, Pike's casual waves mimic the look's texture while the red pout make this outfit movie star worthy. 

Emma Stone in Christian Dior Haute Couture: Always a red carpet darling, Stone is without a doubt winning this year's awards season. It feels like we were just resuscitated from looking at the nominee's stunning Lanvin outfit from the Golden Globes, and then she arrives to last night's event in something that will put any style savant in an extended sartorial coma. Dramatic? Perhaps; however, this look is the perfect fashion moment on the red carpet. It takes a seriously style conscious star-- try saying that five times fast-- to have enough confidence to sport this look. Forget conventional dresses in taffeta or silk: fashion fanatics were glued to their televisions last night wishing they could wear that Dior number.  The perfect blend between masculine and feminine, Stone's fierce red lip, ear cuffs, and slick ponytail keep this look cool.  When Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn wrote pages about Amy Dunne's idea of the "cool girl," she was subconsciously predicting the future and envisioning this look, right?

Red Carpet Review: 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards

The most exciting time of the year continues with the Screen Actors Guild Awards.This year's red carpet welcome delicious jewel tones, A-listers galore, and even some Christian Louboutin flats (that means you, Emma Thompson). But who truly aced this awards show and who should've given their look a second thought? Check out this Trendologist-approved red carpet round up.

The Best

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera: Whether she's sporting jumpsuits or rocking metallics, the Modern Family actress is never afraid of a sartorial challenge. Not only is this dress extremely event-appropriate, I love the mix of color-blocking and futuristic lines. Very au courant. To make the bold dress stand out, Bowen opted for minimal accessories; however, that jeweled clutch is awesome.

Sandra Bullock in Lanvin: Needless to say, the Gravity star looks like an on-trend goddess. Sure, emerald is no longer Patone's "It Color," but it's no surprise that jewel tones look amazing with Bullock's complexion. The languid silhouette perfectly contrasts last weekend's Prabal Gurung number. As a finishing touch, Bullock matches her sheeny dress with slick metallic accessories-- the forearm bracelet is to die for. 

Anna Gunn in Monique Lhuillier: As easy as it may be to despise Gunn's onscreen persona, Skyler White, I can't help but adore the actress's red carpet looks. Last night, the Breaking Bad starlet was a true vision in midnight blue. The halter neckline and beaded detailing enhances this otherwise sleek silhouette. Though a matching dress and jewels can be a little exhausting, Gunn did it right by keeping the accessories to a minimum. Additionally, I'm smitten with her tousled locks.

Gretchen Moi in J.Mendel: Ladies and gent, please take a memo: this is how you rock winter white. Instead of a very typical column dress, the short sleeves and perforated details perfectly complement the event's relatively casual nature. And I absolutely adore that front draping--so chic! The loose waves only add to this contemporary ensemble and Moi's pink pout offers the perfect dose of color. 

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior: I don't mean to toot my own sartorial horn, but I so knew this would be a hit.  A far cry from her typical princess silhouette, this sleek shape is both flattering and youthful. And thanks to the multicolored sequins, this column shape is anything but boring. And as expected, the punky gown looks phenomenal with her pixie cut. 

Lupita Nyong'o in Gucci: In just two short weeks, the 12 Years a Slave actress has won the hearts of fashion fanatics worldwide. First, that beyond epic Ralph Lauren number? Flawless. And now, Lupita wins a SAG and my personal "best use of turquoise ever" award. The budding fashionista looks tropical chic in this number. The decadent neckline balances the otherwise streamlined frock. And can we please take a moment to fawn over her eye makeup? Now that's what I call a full look.

Claire Danes in Vionnet; Though many people may not love this dress, I'm kind of obsessed with it. The mix of fabrics and colors is fresh in a sea of bold solids. Combined, the show-stopping sequins and ethereal panels create a completely fashion-forward. A far cry from the airy silhouettes she sported at previous award shows, Danes is having a major smoldering starlet moment. Not to mention I'm kind of her darker hair and kohl- lined lids. 

The Worst

Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi: Without the glitzy belt, the American Hustle star could've been a vision in cobalt. Not only does the belt take away from the intriguing bodice, the dress is not flattering at particular angles. Don't believe me? YouTube some red carpet interviews. Oh Amy, why are you striking out this awards season? With so few award shows yet, I am praying she'll have a perfectly princess moment at the Academy Awards. Who's ready to stage a style intervention for Miss Adams? I am! 

Ariel Winter in Badgley Mischka: Let's say it together, shall we? Too much cleavage! Not only does the bodice look a little sleazy, it seems as if she can't even fit into this gown. And when wearing such a vibrant dress, it's important to complement your frock with a pop of pigment. As much as I love a nude face, it looks like this dress is wearing her.

Kerry Washington in Prada: Last week, I thought the Scandal star was one of the most stylish pregnant women in the history of stylish pregnant women. Kerry, what happened? This look is atrocious! First of all, the sequined cropped top and lace pumps are too much! Though this outfit would look amazing on someone with a ridiculously toned body, it's not what a pregnant woman should wear. To be perfectly blunt, it's wildly inappropriate. And am I crazy, or do you see a bit of a muffin top? 

Sarah Paulson in Rochas: Don't get me wrong, I love me some Rochas; however, this whole look is way too Sandra Dee. A full skirt, flippy bob, and a blinding pink pout? No thank you. This would've looked gorgeous on Kiernan Shipka. Was that a back-handed
compliment? Perhaps.

Emma Thompson in Vintage: It all was mediocre until the flats. Emma, if you really must wear flats, make sure we can't see your feet! They may be Louboutin, but they look more like a last minute decision after some truly fabulous pumps mysteriously broke. Though comfort never goes out of style, sometimes it's imperative to understand that beauty is pain.

2013 Screen Actor Guild Awards: Revenge of the Glam (Sort of...)

Every year, the Screen Actor Guild Awards serve as a terrible tease. Placed right between the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards, the SAGs is the neglected middle child of awards season. Most years, the fashion is always less-than-perfect, but groupies had something to rejoice about as their favorite superstars rocked this red carpet. At the same time, others fell victim to my "take no prisoner" criticism. So let's get this show on the road, shall we?

The Worst

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior: Simply stated, I'm not impressed. Though her hair and makeup look phenomenal, this ensemble is painfully basic (especially when you end up winning a SAG award). The jewelry is so simple, it's essentially irrelevant and that two-part dress is anything but flattering. Also, why would you wear such a complicated ensemble when you know there's a big chance you will have to stand up to accept an award. Riddle me that, Girl on Fire.

Morena Baccarin in Basil Soda: I'm requesting a moment of silence to reflect on that tragic, unnamed incident that shredded Baccarin's dress. Wait...that never happened? Awkward. Without a doubt, Baccarin is obsessed with the designer; however, it's important to know when an addiction has gone too far. This dress? Too far. Deconstructed dresses can look cool, but the Homeland star looks like she just came back from showgirl gig in Vegas.

Ariel Winter in Alex Perry: Is it just me or does Ariel Winter look like she borrowed the dress from Helen Miren? This up-and-coming red carpet fixture usually wows onlookers with youthful and sophisticated outfits; however, this Alex Perry creation makes her look old. And not in a good way. I think she's absolutely adorable but wish that she wore something with a bit more pizazz. On the bright side, her hair and makeup is lovely!

January Jones in Prabal Gurung:  While I adore both January Jones and Prabal, this look is absolutely tragic. Between the high ruffled neck and the defiant hair, her outfit is reminiscent of a colonial man. Though I appreciate how she always dresses outside of the box, nobody should sport crazy hair with a crazy dress-- you will just look crazy. Period. 

Kaley Cuoco in Romana Keveza:  When I first saw this ensemble , I thought Kaley finally did something right. "Reminiscent of Emma Stone's 2012 SAG ensemble," I concluded. And then I saw the bottom, which is absolutely tragic. But are we surprised? The Big Bang star consistently tops my worst dressed list. That hemline makes her look abnormally short and don't even get me started on those bangs. Please save her! 

Rose Bryne in Valentino: To be rather blunt, there is nothing good about this look. What happened? Rose Bryne is always one of my red carpet favorites and while I always admire her fearless ensembles, this Valentino look marks her sartorial "rock bottom." Forget about that tragic print for a second and just focus on that horrid shape. "Everyone loves wearing side ruffles," said no one ever. Unfortunately, those harsh waves and that poppy lip only make matters worse.

Helen Hunt in Romona Keveza: Over-accessorizing isn't always a good thing.

Lea Michele in Valentino: Once upon a time, Lea Michele ruled the red carpet. She wore casual Catherine Malandrino and glitzy Marchesa. Those were the days. As Glee's decline began, the diva's relevance (on the red carpet and otherwise) decreased as well.  Though she tried to wow us in Valentino, I'm anything but moved. First of all, why would she sport Schiaparelli pink when she already had a rockstar moment in that pink Oscar de la Renta number years ago? Do me a favor and pick a different hue. I suggest eggplant. And no accessories?! This outfit is too basic to go au natural, not to mention the feminiene silhouette prevents any sort of "minimalist look." But the biggest problem with this look? The hair. Don't be fooled-- this is not ombre. It looks as if Michele colored her tips, which is something boys in my third grade class did. For shame, Lea Michele, for shame! 

Marion Cotillard in Dior: Though her courage to wear a full silhouette is admirable, this Dior number disappoints in execution. For me, this ensemble's flaws rest in the simplicity of the accessories-- minimalism is simply not plausible when you are sporting a full skirt. While the simple black pumps would be chic with a sleek sheath, they serve as an anticlimactic finale here. Plus, Cotillard's nonchalant bob looks too casual for this gown. The French actress consistently aces every ensemble, so let's hope this is a one-time mistake.

The Best

Nicole Kidman in Vivienne Westwood: Simply stated, Kidman's sartorial choices improve with age. The Paperboy star keeps it youthful in this column dress. Not only is the shimmery applique every fashion snob's fantasy, that high slit gives Angelina Jolie's infamous ensemble some competition. To balance such a potent gown, Kidman ditched the glitzy accessories and opted for a simple pair of strappy sandals.  The super slick hair is progressive and fresh, albeit the middle part is a little harsh. Just divine! 

Julie Bowen in Johanna Johnson: A leather-esque dress? Though it sounds like something a dominatrix would wear, I'm sort of obsessed with it. I love the contrast between the harsh fabric and a girly silhouette. If you weren't completely in love with this dress, the bejeweled sleeves (which makes this sound like a disaster from the 1980's) give this dress a tame touch. From pantsuits to leather dresses, Bowen never fails to try something new.

Sarah Hyland in Dolce & Gabbana: It seems as if Sarah Hyland is enduring a style evolution. Over the past few award shows, the Modern Family starlet has shed her princess-esque silhouettes and opted for vixen-approved silhouettes. And for the record, it totally works. While this body-hugging dress epitomizes maturity, the jewel tone hue and funky print keep this look age-appropriate. The red carpet rockstar also keeps this look youthful with a relaxed ponytail and a trendy midarm bangle. Amazing.

Kelly Osbourne in Jenny Packham: Never a sartorial wallflower, the Fashion Police co-host entered the red carpet with guns blazing. And by guns, I mean a rampant collection of spikes. As an avid lover of edgy glamour, I'm smitten with this look. Though Osbourne always rocks extravagant frocks, I must say that she nailed it on Sunday night. The tough bodice and clutch are perfectly balanced by the basic silhouette and plain train. To pump up the drama, Osbourne added a bright red lip. The only thing that's wrong with this look is the hair. I'm all for creativity,but  her hair's ridiculous hue is getting old.

Eddie Redmayne in Hugo Boss: I originally hated this ensemble because I saw a very unflattering image. I know, how could you find a bad picture of the Les Miserables hunk? But after looking at this outfit more, I'm absolutely obsessed. The suit is perfectly fitted, plus I love how Redmayne took such a fashion risk by wearing a brown textured suit. Swoon.

Kerry Washington in Rodarte: She has been shutting it down this awards season. But doesn't everyone know that? In my opinion, this look is amazing because it focuses on contrast. I love how crisp the white looks against her skin. I love how inspired that structured bodice looks with the lace train. And I especially love how the sleek updo contrasts the complicated Rodarte ensemble. With Washington's recent stretch of sartorial homeruns, I cannot wait to see what she'll wear to the Academy Awards.

Kiernan Shipka in Oscar de la Renta: I'm usually not so decisive when it comes to my absolute favorite look of the night, but this one is literally the greatest thing that has ever been aired on TBS. Yes, I went there. Polished and age-appropriate, Shipka is absolutely a vision in blush. Not to mention the jewel details on the dress offer a dash of childhood creativity. For a clean look, Shipka keeps her accessories to a minimum and sports a head of soft waves. I seriously see no flaws-- it's almost painfully perfect.

2012 SAG Awards

Is it just me or are the Screen Actor's Guild Awards always painfully boring? While I'm so thrilled that Modern Family and The Help were some of last night's big winners, I never love the ceremony. The fashion, on the other hand, oh that's another story. Surprisingly enough, I was very happy with most of the looks that strutted down the red carpet. Of course that made me happy, but I always love pulling out my inner Joan Rivers. So let's get the show on the road, shall we?




The good news is that some of my fashion predictions came true! We saw sleek silhouettes, pops of color, some funky patterns, and even a bold lip or two!

THE WORST 

• Kristen Wiig (Balenciaga): The worst look of the night, by far. I'm genuinely concerned with her stylist's mental state. A halter neck is enough pizazz so there's no need for a chocker. Instead of looking chic, she just looks like a dominatrix. Also, I don't like the cinched waist on this dress: it makes her look a million times more awkward and gangly. Kristen Wiig is such a funny lady, but I'm not laughing at this look at all.
• Kaley Cuoco (Romona Keveza): Just no. First of all, I absolutely hate this hair. Sure, it'd be absolutely precious with a sundress and cowboy boots, but for an awards show? You must be kidding me. Also, this dress is too much for the SAG Awards, especially when she's not a nominee. Awkward... 
• Kevin Mchale (Don't Want to Know):A word of advice: don't get fashion  inspiration from Adam Lambert.  Love his music, but his outfits are just...not chic. Men, dressing up for an awards show is so easy to do so just go casual.
• Amber Riley (Badgley Mischka): Although I love that form-fitting silhouette on her, I hate this look. The bow is just way too much: she's going to an award show, not a Sweet Sixteen. And what's up with that hair? Way too matronly for Miss Riley. I want to see her in more edgy pieces: she has the eye for them! 
• Zoe Saldana (Givenchy): Way too modest. I think this would look awesome for a more fashion-forward event, but she should've worn something more fun. This is the SAG awards for crying out loud, it's on TNT! Also, I don't like those shoes with this dress: the dress is so angelic while the shoes aren't. And not even in a cool juxtapositional way.  If I have to be honest: single and miserable just doesn't work for her.  
• Busy Phillips (SIMONE by Katie Nehra): Just because it's the SAG Awards doesn't mean you can just stroll up in your new cover-up and call it a day. The dress is hideous: it's not flattering and that fabric belt makes me hostile.  But the awkward multi-necklaces are the perfect thing to salvage this look, right? Wrong. What is she, twelve?  I kind of like the hair, but not with this look.  Also, who even is Busy Phillips? 
• Heather Morris (Masai Payan): The hair, the awkward patent leather, the train, the arbitrary earrings, oh, and that TRAIN ...there's literally nothing right about this look. The stylist clearly wanted to go so many different directions with this dress. Unfortunately all four of them ae wrong. So wrong. Heather's gorgeous; however, this is really tragic. 
• Jane Krakowski (Antonio Berardi): I feel mildly violated. I love the silhouette on her, but the bodice is just too much. On Emma Stone, or a younger actress, this would've looked spectacular. However, this is too young for her. I'd rather her sing about her Muffin  Top.
• Shailene Woodley (L'Wren Scott): Wait, she got to keep some costumes from The Descendants? I hate this so much: the print isn't even that flattering on her and I don't like the lack of accessories. Shame, SHAME! 

THE BEST

• Giuliana Rancic (Basil Soda): Obsessed. I love the silhouette of this dress: it's not too fancy, but definitely fashion-forward.  Her hair and makeup worked is so event- appropriate. The statement necklace perfectly ties this whole look together. Perfection.
• Rose Bryne (Elie Saab): Although I'm not a huge fan of her new bob, I'm so smitten with this look. She took such a fashion risk- which paid off- and there is no better place to experiment with a playsuit than the SAG Awards. It fits her like a glove and the gold accessories? Major. I so admire her all of her style risks and her unapologetic attitude in terms of her vision. 
• Julie Bowen (Temperley London): Such a come back after the Golden Globes fiasco.   I love this purple on her and can we talk about the silhouette? Genius. The column bottom  complements the draped back. Her easy updo finishes this look on a high note. In love. 
• Jayma Mays (Reem Acra): This dress is literally the perfect mix of edgy- a la sequins- and dainty with the lace. The silhouette is so old school glamour and the lack of accessories totally works with this dress. Though I don't usually like perky ponytails, her hair keeps this look refreshing. 
• Emilia Clarke (Chanel): The detailing on this Chanel dress is literally too good to be true. Since the feathered skirt is black, it looks chic instead of cheesy. The futuristic sleeves and neckline are beautifully executed. What makes these two very different components so compatible is the floral belt that separates the two and gives a steady progression into the next "fashion element." The messy hair perfectly counteracts this semi-architectural piece. Also, can I ever reist a red lip? Nope.
• Stacy Keibler (Marchesa): Take a note, Lea Michele: this is Marchesa done correctly.  I have a very rational love for lace, even though it can occasionally look matronly. This dress' form-fitting silhouette makes the lace seem youthful. Stacy keeps it simple by sporting a a black clutch and a messy updo. She looks cool, sophisticated, and definitely like a Mrs. Clooney.
• Emily Blunt (Oscar de la Renta): This is definitely one of my favorites from last night. Nobody else wore this color on the red carpet, so I definitely admire her confidence and originality. The asymmetrical neckline and the sexy slit pushes the envelope on this dress; however, her pile of bracelets balances this look out. The bold lip  and incredible sparkly shoes keeps his look strong from head to toe. Gorgeous.
• Dianna Agron (Carolina Herrera): She literally looks like a fashion princess. This beautiful magenta is so flattering with her complexion and hair color. The silhouette is also extremely flattering, which is a big step from her Emmys look. The feminine makeup and the subtle braided updo oozes femininity, which I love.
• Emma Stone (Alexander McQueen): How is it that Emma hits it out of the ball park every single time? The dress, shoes, hair, and makeup scream 1960's beauty queen, in the chicest way possible, while her accessories are so edgy it's crazy. These two inspirations don't overpower one another or clash:  they work together to create a cohesive and fashion-forward ensemble. 
• Octavia Spencer (Tadashi Shoji): How cute is this woman? Every thank you speech she gives warms my soul. Anywho, she looks awesome. I love this outfit on her: the silhouette is uber flattering and the color is absolutely fabulous with her skin tone. The nature-inspired earrings work so well with the intricate bodice. Gorgeous.
• Angelina Jolie (Jenny Packham): This look is a complete 180 from her Golden Globes ensemble., which I'm thrilled about.  I love the understated glamour of this: though the silhouette is rather simple, the draping and fabric spices this dress up and makes it something truly special. Also, who can pull off gold hoops anymore, you ask? Angelina Jolie, that's who. They don't look trashy, but uber glam. So good.
• Ahna O'Reilly (Nha Khanh): Ultimate lady in red. Can we talk about this back? Fabulous! The bold bangle is the perfect way to finish off this look. Minimalism, but a minimalism that I love.

Sagging Style

I'll be perfectly honest, I am not a fan of the SAG Awards. Of course, the whole "acting community" is a nice thought, but it's boring. And the fashion is never like the big time award shows.

Buuuuut...

modern family won.

and the social network did not.

and natalie portman won too.
and my predictions were...slacking.

As I stated before, the fashion was so- so. At the Globes' red carpet show, I squealed and my jaw dropped a plethora of times. The SAGs? Not the same. But anyways, let's talk about the looks!

THE WORST

• Winona Ryder (Alberta Ferretti): Trainwreck. Ooooof I hate everything about this. Seriously, it's like she went to a senior prom in the 1980s. the bag is awkward, her hair is awkward, and the dress looks awkward on her. I just hate this.
• Jenna Fischer (Fendi): Yes, her hair and makeup looked amazing, but this was a terrible choice. The silhouette isn't the least bit flattering; she looks matronly and boring. She's such a beautiful woman and I wish she could've picked something better for this award ceremony.
• Jennifer Lawrence (Oscar de le Renta): Before this dress, I didn't think Oscar could do any wrong. But not all fashion geniuses are perfect. Don't get me wrong, the fuschia looks incredible on her, but I hate the black belt; it makes her look like she has a gut!  The hair is also way too serious for the SAG awards. I'm also debating the shoulders but I can't even focus when that belt is there. I also feel like  there is no communication between above the belt and below the belt; if the shoulders are going to be dramatic, lose the slit!
• Naya Rivera (Aurelio Costarello): THIS IS SO DULL. The beige doesn't suite her all  that well and partially beaded bodice makes the dress look awkward and incomplete. But what I hate most about this red carpet look is the hair. It looks like there was no effort at all! Just a quick wash and dry?! YOU'RE ON THE RED CARPET. She's so beautiful and I think she could've definitely done better.
• Eva Longoria (Georges Hobelka):Blegh. I loved the ivory on Eva, but this dress was a diaster;  the draping just looks odd and not maintained and the drop waist wasn't doing anything for her figure. Her outfits are always hits or misses in my mind, no in between. What would Gabrielle Solis think?! 
• Christina Hendricks (L'Wren Scott): I love long sleeved dresses, but she did it completely wrong. The fabric did not help her curves at all! This dress showed an awkward amount of skin and it just didn't look good. I'm sure dresses someone of her curves is hard, but this is horrendous.
• Nicole Kidman (Nina Ricci): First of all, what's up with the necklace she's wearing? It totally de-sophisticates her whole look. Anyways, the amount of lace on this dress made me feel like the lace was really a spider' web. I would've really liked this dress if the back was de-laced and it was just open and sexy. The lace on the neckline is great though. 
• Kim Kardashian (Marchesa): My least favorite look of the night! It looks like Princess Jasmine on crack!  She usually has such a dramatic eye and nude lip, the entire nude makeup makes her look sickly... and really scares me. It's so messed up, I don't even know what exactly is wrong with it...does that make sense? The color's nice and Marchesa is always fabulous, but this is no good!
• Kate Mara (Herve Leger): This is just weird. She's such a beautiful girl, but what's with the headband? It looks like she's trying to match...but failed. Down and loose curls would've made the world's difference. And she didn't even accessorize besides that! The dress is really interesting and maybe it would've looked better on someone else, but the execution was so bad!
• Melissa Leo (Randi Rahm): What is this...I don't even know how to go about critiquing this. SO UGLY! The hair is really awkward and there is such a thing as metallic not working...case and point: this!
• Matthew Morrison (Prada): I wasn't aware that Matthew Morrison was ALSO Ricky Martin. Sometimes, I question his sexuality whilst watching Glee (there is nothing wrong with any sexuality, just to throw that out there).  This is too casual, too Ricky Martin...too bad.

THE BEST

• Jane Krakowski (Badgely Mischka): Absolutely stunning! She showed off her bump and looked completely chic while doing it. The silver was beautiful with her complexion and hair. Also, the asymmetrical sleeve made a mama-to-be look hot and current, which I love! It was really smart of her to wear nude platforms, emphasizing the dress and the bump. Her hair and makeup was also exquisite.
• Mila Kunis (Alexander McQueen): Best of the night, seriously! I'm obsessed with this dress; she looked hip but relaxed, which is perfect for the SAGs. I'm glad she didn't over-accessorize, a classic print wearing rule. Her hair was flawless and she embraced many of the best trends on the carpet last night.
• Sofia Vergara (Roberto Cavalli): As we all know, Sofia Vergara is a woman with many...assets.  This Cavalli dress offered her two things: class and flattery. The color looked amazing with her skin tone and hair; nobody else really wore cobalt so she surely made a splash on the red carpet. The draping around the waist seriously made her look like a minute! Also, this dress showed of the right amount of her Vergaras. It was youthful but not immature. Perfecto!
• Heather Morris (Romona Keveza): LOVE! She looked like a Pretty Pretty Princess last night! The complexity of the bodice was a perfect match to the simple skirt. The color looked so beautiful on her and the simple accessories worked well with the feathery-fabulous bodice.
• Hailee Steinfeld (Prada): I think this dress was one of the most talked about all night. At first, I thought this was terrifying, but I liked it the more I saw it. I think the SAG  Awards is the only place this dress would get a good interpretation during awards season.  The SAG Awards are less serious than the Globes or the Oscars, so it's expected to wear something a little more relaxed.  The bright colors are good for this carpet and, since she's so young, it was a really fun dress. But for any other occasion, this wouldn't be good.
• Natalie Portman (Azzaro): So sophisticated! I love the black and white combination...didn't someone just blog about this recently? Hmmm.... anyways! I love how she also showed her bump; it's the first time she's done it since her pregnancy was announced! Yes, her hair could be better, but she looks fabulous regardless.
• January Jones (Carolina Herrera): First of all, thank you for covering up! Although I wish the hair wasn't weird, I love this dress. It's so beautiful and is really flattering on Ms. Jones. She worked the lace trend perfectly into her dress without looking like a web (a la Nicole Kidman). While some of the minor details could be improved, I like this soo much better than her Globes look.
• Justin Timberlake (Simon Spurr): Why is JT so cool?  Fashionable men have it rough: how can they make a statement on the red carpet without looking cheesy. By adding the double striped tie...he looked so chic. In addition, his suit fit him perfectly.
• Claire Danes (Louis Vuitton): Absolutely fabulous!  I love the aqua and black combination fo this Vuitton, so smitten!  In this scenario, I really like the black belt: adds spice to the dress and also makes it less formal. The pink lips are also genius! This has  to be my second favorite look of the night for sure.
• Tina Fey (Oscar de la Renta): I assume that seeing Tina Fey in this dress is like watching a baby's first steps. INCREDIBLE! I'm so happy she's ditched the frumpy black and showed herself off. The red is amazing; she looked sophisticated and super classy. I'm just so proud!
• Helena Bonham Carter  (Marc Jacobs): THANK YOU FOR WEARING MATCHING SHOES! She looks so cute in this black and white Marc Jacobs outfit...almost like a 1950's housewife. Her hair is of course quirky, but I'm glad she has the ability to tame her outrageousness for one night. Kudos, Helena.
• Dianna Agron (Vintage Chanel): When I first saw her, I thought it was Emma Roberts. Anyways, I'm so glad she wore something dark and sultry. The navy looks awesome with her blonde hair and light skin. The hem-line is really interesting, but still extremely classy. I'm also happy she paired a sleek hair-do together with dark and mysterious eye  makeup. Amazing, amazing,amazing.

The Weekly: Burn Up in Your Atmoshpere

I have a LOT of Weeklies so let's make this short and sweet, shall we?

This really hardcore bracelet is my latest conquest. I'm so obsessed with it.

It's really unlike anything I have, so I knew I wanted it.

I also enjoy this picture because it's so ironic (floral bedspread and stuffed pal, Babar with spiked bracelet...ja'dore).

SAG PREDICTIONS:

White,white, and some more white: white is so big right now and A-List celebrities should wear this look.

I'm also throwing for the asymmetrical bodices; I want some pizazz! 

Mullet dresses? Selena Gomez has been rocking them lately, I want some more.

SLIM FITTING DRESSES: A lot of people did poofy evening gowns for the Golden Globes, so I'm expecting some sleek dresses (a la Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie)

Onto the Weekly: So many fabulous looks so I want to get started immediately!

• Olivia Wilde at a Parisian Gucci Party (Gucci): Olivia Wilde has been doing some incredible fashion things lately. Color-blocking is a huge thing lately and she does it oh so well. The variety of color makes the jumpsuit mesmerizing, but they are all in the same color family which makes it work. And let's talk about this incredible gold necklace, shall we? To die for!  This outfit looks like a sexy Arabian nights and oh...didn't I just write something about Arabian nights?
• Amy Adams at a Producer's Guild of America Gala (Andrew Gn): Usually, Amy Adams goes for a very conservative sweet-heart bodice look. I was so so so happy to see her break out of her fashion cocoon! The navy/eggplant color looks incredible with her hair and overall complexion and the  shorter hemline is something we don't see too much on her. The draping is also really slimming and I love how the brooch gives it some "wow" factor. She looks enchanting (that was my attempt to make a pun).
• Jessica Alba also at the Gucci bash (Gucci): She looks flawless. Ooof...why can't we all be like Jessica Alba? She pulled off the metallic look so well! And this semi-cape thing in the back? I loooove it; it's done in a classy way that doesn't make her look like Super-Glamour-Woman. Love it!!
• Kate Hudson Strolling in London (Burberry): Even when she's preggers, Kate Hudson can do no wrong...at all. I am obsessed with this Burberry trench. The color and texture of this jacket is so supreme paired with a sexy and liquidy black skirt..or is it a dress? Why is she the best?!
• Leighton Meester at The Roommate premiere (Michael Kors): THE CUTOUT IS AWESOME! Leighton Meester has had a plethora of fashion mishaps, but this is sooo good. Long dresses are so in lately and the cut outs makes it sexy and not frumpy. The mix of fabrics makes it not an essential to have jewels. I just wish her hair wasn't multi-colored...
• Whitney Port at a People bash (Vintage Thierry Mugler): I have a mild obsession with Whitney Port: she always looks so ethereal and youthful. In this case, she may not look ethereal, but I love the sequin; all of the different sizes?! So great!  The white looks incredible with her blonde hair and complexion. As always, she's stunning! 
• Diane Kruger at the SAME Gucci Bash (Gucci): Okay, so some people may not like this dress, but I love Diane Kruger. And out of anyone, Diane Kruger WOULD be able to pull off this dress. She worked that black and gold so well. It's so abstract, but so beautiful. Her simple hair and lack of accessories were amazing. Only the most fabulous can wear avant garde!
