The 2012 Emmys

As an avid television nerd, The Emmys is not just another award ceremony- each year, it is an event. It should be no surprise then to hear how I spent my Sunday night: glutten-free nachos in my mouth, my fellow T.V. groupie by my side, and E!'s Live from the Red Carpet on my television. Besides yet another year of Modern Family victory, I was disappointed with the whole awards. Jimmy Kimmel's self-obsessed hosting job made me sad, but it was the red carpet fashion that truly broke my heart. Sure, there were many great looks, but the bad were truly terrible. But why take my word for it? See for yourself.

The Best 

Lauren Parsekian in Kaufman Franco: The epitome of sleek style. Between the slimming silhouette and perfectly blown out hair, this ensemble is everything. Maybe a little too casual for the Emmys, but I adore it. (Photo)

Padma Lakshmi in Monique Lhuillier: Fortunately, Lakshmi put a halt to the unbridled gang of tragic neon dresses. The silhouette is flawless while the color is fresh, but not bright enough to give you a migraine. Although I wish she added large earrings, her minimalist take on this ensemble allows us to focus on the gown's execution.  (Photo)

Emilia Clarke in Chanel: The Game of Thrones' star ditches the HBO hit's dark color palette and trades it in for something so girly and perfect, you want to cry. While the dress' shape looks like something from Mad Men, the atypical hem gives this pick some sex appeal. From the clean hair to the simple drop earrings, the starlet's ensemble is flawless. Clarke prevents a cookie-cutter outfit with nude shoes, which allow fashion's peanut gallery to focus on the intricacy of the dress. I think this is my favorite of the night. (Photo)

Lucy Liu  in Atelier Versace: Though the former Charlie's Angel star isn't usually on  my style radar, I can tell you one thing: she knows how to make each fashion opportunity count. The variety of materials give this simple silhouette so much more depth than, say, a plethora of uniform paillettes. It's fun, yet classy.  Not to mention that this fit is flattering beyond belief. The simple studs and slicked back hair completed a perfect red carpet look.  (Photo)

Ariel Winter in Katharine Kidd: If this proves anything, it's that the young starlet is nothing like her nerdy onscreen persona. This dress is hot. I'm not quite sure what the print is supposed to be, but I love how innovative and youthful it is. Winter shows off the mullet top- business in the front, party in the back- with a regal updo. Simple jewels and a hint of a poppy lip makes it official: Ariel Winter is the new girl to watch on the red carpet. (Photo)

Emily VanCamp in J.Mendel: Confession time: I'm so jealous of Emily VanCamp: she is the star of one of my favorite shows, dating one of the prettiest boys on the silver screen, and got to wear this fantastic J.Mendel. The muted shade works perfectly with the Canadian star's feminine complexion while the ruffled detail is balanced by the dress' simple bottom. My personal favorite part of this whole look is the hair- sophistication and casual at the same time. Ugh, why can we all be this lucky? (Photo)

Jane Krakowski in Kaufman Franco: I'm not going to lie, I may have an emotional breakdown during the series finale of 30 Rock. Not only is the show comedic gold, the stars' red carpet fashions get better each season. Just think how awesome the casts' ensembles would be next year. My favorite of the primetime dream team's styles was Jane Krakowski's metallic dream. The funny lady added a dash of Jenna Maroney's diva persona to this ensemble, giving us this mega major outfit. This silhouette is so flattering and masks any sort of "muffin top"  the 30 Rock star may have. Since this dress is so sparkly, Krakowski kept the hair, makeup, and jewels simple. Brava!  (Photo)

 Morena Baccarin in Basil Soda: In a sea of cleavage-busting bodices, Baccarin proves that you can show off what your mama gave you whilst keeping it classy. The dress' plunging neckline is provocative and alluring; however, it's not uncomfortable. Basil Soda keeps this dress feminine with a soft color and delicate ruffles. Phenomenal. (Photo)

Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta: Thankfully, one of the ladies from HBO's Girls was dressed to impress. Williams is a true vision in emerald. The architectural lines are both super slimming and chic.  For a clean finishing touch, her pulled back hair perfectly juxtaposes the geometric gown.(Photo)

Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier: After careful consideration, I've decided that I'm a fan of this dress Sure it's quirky, but would we ever expect Goodwin to wear something conventional? Exactly. Time and time again, Goodwin chooses a dress that only fashion people would appreciate. And we really appreciate it this time. For one thing, the hi-low hemline is my everything.  Another thing that I love about Goodwin's premium tastemaker status  is her use of accessories. The urchin-esque earrings perfectly contrast the dress' whimsy applique. Looks like someone's getting ready for another season of Once Upon a Time. (Photo)

Jon Hamm in Giorgio Armani: If push came to shove, I would  take one for the team and become Mrs. Jon Hamm. It'd be rough, because he's totally unattractive. But on the real, he looks more delicious than usual in this tux. Not only is the suit perfectly tailored, the bow tie is perfectly proportional to the rest of his ensemble. (Photo)

The Worst

Claire Danes in Lanvin: This may be the most disappointing look of the night because I love usually Lanvin's designs and  Claire's style eye. While Danes did stay on trend with this sunny hue, the silhouette is off.  The pregnant star would've been better off with an empire waist or a dress that truly showed off her child-bearing curves.  For shame, Alber and Claire, for shame. (Photo)

January Jones in Zac Posen: I love the dress, but what's going on with this hair? January, my darling, what is this? If you hair had a little more volume, everything would be fantastic. (Photo)

Lena Dunham:Oh how the mighty have fallen. And her new do' is the least of this look's problems. The granny-chic lace plus the lack of jewels equals Dunham accidentally wearing her nana's dress. I don't even want to talk about this anymore, that's how traumatized I am. Ladies and gent, let's take this time to reflect on the good 'ol days when she knew how to dress for her body.(Photo)

Glenn  Close in Bibhu Mohapatra: My lovely Glenn, you know what you did. Will I forgive you for this? Maybe. (Photo)

 Hayden Panettiere in Marchesa: Oh Georgia Chapman, what did you do?  I usually swoon over Marchesa's collections; however, this selection was like a knife to my heart. It looks as if Panettiere was wearing a stellar column dress and then someone decided to saran wrap the ensemble out of pure jealousy.(Photo)

Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthier: In theory, this dress is exactly what a glamourous siren would wear. Unfortunately,  I had a very rude awakening last night. The double slit was just too much for the Emmys. Honestly, Heidi should've saved this dress until she had to awkwardly bump into Seal at the Grammys. Additionally, the hair is unimpressive. Where's the sleek ponytail to complete this ultra-slutty look?  I think Heidi's stylist was a little confused.(Photo)

Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga: To quote Bridesmaids, "What is happening?"  I know Wiig is no longer on Saturday Night Live; however, she doesn't have a right to dress down. Honestly, this dress looks like a teenager's"fall ball" outfit. The comedian's dark hair is to die for, but this dress... no thank you.(Photo)

Ashley Judd in Carolina Herrera: Poor Ashley: she was rejected from the Hollywood Bowl's production of Hairspray and didn't have time to change out of her outfit. If the dress wasn't horrid enough, Judd's defiant hair is nauseating. In her  Emmy-nominated miniseries, Missing, Judd's onscreen sun is kidnapped-- why didn't anyone keep this out of Judd's sight?(Photo)

Lena Headey in Giorgio Armani: In what world is this ensemble okay? If Florence Welch isn't wearing a this...situation, nobody can. The sheer details is extremely eery, especially paired with the delicate dress. Ned Stark would not approve. (Photo)

The Style Files: Baby I Paint the Sky Blue, My Favorite Creation is You

This week, a star was born. Her name? Blue Ivy. While there's a lot of talk about Bey and Jay's hospital take-over, I'm so glad the princess of hip-hop is here. And shall we talk about Jay-Z's latest song, "Glory"? All I can say is that I wish my dad wrote a rap when I was born.

THE STYLE FILES: Edie Campbell

I think that Edie Campbell truly perfects the whole "I just threw on this ensemble but I still look fabulous" look. From her perfectly oversized clothes to her casual, long locks, Campbell always looks perfectly imperfect. And let's face it: being perfect is only fun for a little while.

At the launch of LuLu&Co  (Lousie Gray): I'm going crazy about the striped maxi dress. Horizontal stripes are so hard to pull off; however, the fit of this dress makes it work. The fierce makeup adds an extra amount of glam to this casual outfit. Also, the subtle red shoe? Phenomenal. (Photo Cred)

At the Brit Fashion Awards (Kinder Aggugini): Speaking about maxi dresses, I'm obsessed with the styling of this one. The contrast between the silk printed dress and mohair jacket is to die for. Definitely a must for the winter!  (Photo Cred)

A more casual look: This definitely hits the fashion nail on the head. This look is so effortless;; however, she looks super chic. I love any  long-sleeved mini dresses, but the white is super dainty and ethereal. Mixed with her long locks? Forget about it.  (Photo Cred)

THE WEEKLY 

• Rooney Mara at the Dragon Tattoo premiere in Rome (Valentino): Breath-taking. Literally, I was so amazed by this look. My jaw dropped: too far? Well, it happened. The extravagant silhouette, especially in that Valentino red is phenomenal. As always, Mara keeps every look clean with  her short do. She's literally the perfect person to wear such amazing pieces.
• Emma Stone at the National Board of Review Awards Gala (J.Mendel): I love a clean-cut Emma Stone. This looks is so classic and I love how the criss-cross detailing gives this look the pop it needs. The shoes give this look some spice; however, they are not abrasive. The sleek updo and red lip makes this look timeless.
• Ginnifer Goodwin at the People's Choice Awards (Roksanda Ilinic): I was really disgusted by almost every look at the 2012 People's Choice Awards, which is why I decided not to blog about it, but I loved this look. I'm obsessed with the modern-day pagoda sleeve, especially in this beautiful hot pink. Stunning. The longer hemline screams mature while the studded Jimmy Choo is the epitome of young glamazon. 
• Kristen Dunst at the 2012 Critic's Choice Awards (Dior): Gorgeous. I love the deconstructed feel of this dress: so edgy, yet gorgeous. The beauty tactics work beautifully with the dress. The messy hair matches the dress to a T. Also, the bright pink lip is the perfect wow factor. Bravo!

The Style Files: Your Silence in a Crowded Room, Louder than the Loudest Tune

Well if this blog post doesn't show you how random my life is, I don't know what will. One of the many perks of living in New York's suburbia is the GREAT commercials for Broadway shows. Lately, I've been overwhelmed with Spiderman: Turn off the Dark and one of the songs has been stuck in my head for weeks. So I bought it on iTunes and can't stop listening to it now. Since the music's by Bono and the Edge, you won't be listening to typical "kick-ball-change" music. So here it is:

Style-Spiration: Diane Kruger 

Diane Kruger is one of those celebrities that I love buuut know absolutely nothing about. This week, she rocked a bow-tie and that's when I knew she had to be my Style-Spiration for this Sunday Edition. I just love how she takes so many risks and never backs down from a challenging trend. She's the definition of a celebrity fashionista.

Just hiding from the stalkerazzi. If Diane Kruger wasn't wearing this, I would say this is a horrible outfit. Preppy pastel+preppy neon+hip fedora+ S&M shoes= disaster. But there's something about the way Kruger put this together. It's a very, "I don't give a s**t  (trying to keep it PG, you know)" or, "Oh I'm so busy. Let me just throw this on anything and everything I could find." Regardless of her true intentions, this look is very thrown together; however, the juxtaposition is ironic and tres chic. I just don't know how she does it and I surely do not think you should try this at home. It can get dangerous (Photo Cred).

At the 82nd Academy Awards in Chanel Haute Couture: I forget what my final verdict on this dress was at the time, but I remember that I condoned her for stepping out of the "full-skirted evening gown" trend.  I imagine this selection of this dress to go a little something like this: while most people said no because it was "too much," Diane Kruger gives the dress one look and says, "Simple, but it'll do." I love the light peach and black combination: very vintage and Parisian. While the different fabric techniques might not work on everyone, Kruger is fearless enough to make this work. Pairing this dress with minimal jewels, and an updo was a great move. I do wish, however, she had a strong lip (Photo Cred).

At the 2008 MET Ball (Alberta Ferretti):  I always get really taken a'back when people wear short dresses to the MET Ball. Where's glamourous avant garde evening gowns? In this scenario, Kruger took a risk by wearing a rather simple dress to such a lavish event. Silly Diane! While I don't love this dress for this occasion, or the shoes for that matter, there goes Ms. Kruger takin' some risks. (Photo Cred)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, fashion is all about risks! So before you take some risks, it's onto the weekly! 

THE WEEKLY! 

I'm very happy because I have a theory about why this looks were so great this week. In the summer time, so many people abandon their style. But Fall is so close so everyone's excited! 

• Miranda Kerr frolicking around L.A (unknown designers): After you have a mild heart attack over how skinny she is, I hope you'll appreciate how easy, yet chic this look is. In my humble opinion, maxi dresses are insta-chic: you don't need much else and you instantly look rather dressy. The long sleeves and fun print of this maxi makes it low-maintenance but a successful look. I do wish, however, she had her hair up in a messy bun. Or a pony tail. Or a braid! 
• Ginnifer Goodwin at the ABC Summer Press Release Shindig (3.1 Phillip Lim): Lookie here, my trendy friends, this is how you rock mixed fabrics: keep it all in one color. This is prime styling right here: I love the lace, combined with the silk body of the dress, and those furry sleeves. I'm going ga-ga over them. If this look was even broken up into black and white, it'd be a fail. SO KEEP IT MONOCHROMATIC! Also, if you plan on mixing fabrics, keep the rest of the look simple: minimal jewels, clean hair, and natural makeup. Go, Ginnifer, Go!
• Kelly Rowland at an X-Factor Press Conference (Versace with Giuseppe Zanotti heels): While I really don't like Kelly Rowland- I don't really think she has any reason to be such a fashion icon and she took my girl Cheryl Cole's position on The X Factor- she honestly looks lovely. I love the lines in this outfit: the teal waves are so sick. And those booties? Fabulous. The wavy hair is totally vixen and youthful. Solid job, Kelly.
• Julianne Moore at the  Blu-Ray release of The Big Lebowski (Jason Wu): I'm so in love with this look. Do you remember the short-lived show, Cashmere Mafia? Well, this outfit looks like it could be straight out of that show, and I like it! The silhouette is simple, allowing the oversize- yet proportionate- bow to take center stage. And here's a major fashion DO: tortoise accessoires with black. How amazing do those shoes look with this ensemble? Keeping the hair sleek is perfect for making this bow truly stand out. Gorgeous, overall.

The Style Files: Is It What You Dreamed It'd Be?

For my complete entertainment, and an inconvenience for you lovely people, I've decided that I will frequently be sharing a song of the week in my Style File post. Everyone loves music, but I've recently been on a "discovering new tunes" kick. And by recently, I mean this whole summer. Maybe it's the massive Target CD shopping trips my sister and I have taken, but there's something so fun about creating your own music library. I promise, fashion is my first love and this will never turn into a music blog. Eer. But I do really like using multimedia in blogs and these Sunday Editions can get lengthy, so I feel like it's nice to give you a nice song. I'm like The Giving Tree here, people. So I picked this week "Windows Are Rolled Down" by: Amos Lee. This song, for some odd reason, gives me inspiration to do something with my life. Okay, that's weird but I'm keeping it. Don't fight the weirdness.

Style-Spiration: Daphne Guinness

As an aspiring fashionista, I have many things on my "Aspiring Fashion To-Do List." There's writing my own style book and then there's having a massively amazing collection of pieces. Note I didn't say wardrobe, I really mean collection. I would like people to come to my amazing house, another thing on the good 'ol list, just so they can see Givenchy couture circa Julien MacDonald. Daphne Guinness, fashionista extraordinaire, has this collection that I- and I suppose anyone else equally obsessed with fashion- only dreams of. So Ms. Guinness, this Style-Spiration section goes to you ,because she's obviously sitting and reading this blog, because of showing exactly how to appreciate fashion. Most of the time Sometimes, she doesn't receive the two thumbs up by mainstream America, but I love how she loves the beyond amazing detail that are put into some of these looks. And she truly doesn't care if people judge her, she's going to wear whatever the [insert the curse word that floats your boat the most] she wants! 

I like to call this look "Ultimate Win at Nicky Haslam's Birthday Party." This is the epitome of wearing art and not caring what other people think. This is BEYOND incredible. This netted veil is so so so chic and reminds me of a fearless Audrey Hepburn. And shall we discuss this necklace that is TO DIE FOR?  The bib is so intricate and makes me consider a life of crime. Did I say that? Just let it go, Tina Fey phase is still in tact.  I will say the veil/hat  may be a bit over-the-top, she's just living it up and making something interesting and thought provoking. Nicky must have been out-shined by her own guest. That's awkward...(Photo Cred)

Here she is just chilling with some of Fashion's Elite, Cecilia Dean and Anne Christensen. I don't know where/when this happened and who she's wearing so I'll cut to the chase: THOSE SHOES. Seriously, I'm attracted to them like a moth to a flame. Not because I like them, I personally think they could've belonged in my previous blog post, but they're so interesting. Even though I'm not "Team These Shoes," I do commend Guinness for her capacity to make fashion fun. People in the fashion industry can be portrayed as cold and hollow; however, I- who is still in my Tina Fey stage, thank you for asking- can assure you that not everyone's like that. Fashion because cold and hollow when people forget to make it fun. Now I'm not a crazy shoe advocate, but be like Guinness and don't be afraid to have fun. (Photo Cred)

And here she is at The 2009 CFDA Awards rocking some Prozena Schouler. This, going along with the art metaphor, is modern art. You may look at this and think, "big deal." As you look closer to the beautiful cobalt embellishments, your sarcastic tone with quickly turn into an amazed tone. It's beautiful in an unconventional way, which I love. (Photo Cred)

Overall, I think that Daphne Guinness' outfits scream "Fashtivites- oh, I'm using it, are fun." She goes for the underdog look and the unconventional, which everyone should admire.


And now, onto The Weekly

• Minka Kelly at a Charlie's Angels press junket (Etro):Such a score! I'm literally obsessed with this look for a press junket. The silhouette is sophisticated and business-ready; however, the different prints is fashion forward and fun.The gold jewels, especially the hoops, give this look a bohemian vibe, which is something I was going for earlier this week. Also, the color distribution is supreme: the polka dotted dress serves as a neutral that breaks up the color so it's not overbearing. The sun-kissed makeup and the wavy locks are perfection. Seriously, I wouldn't change a thing about this look.
• Ginnifer Goodwin at Maxim's Comic-Con party (Designer unavailable at the moment):Although I really wish Goodwin added a  bright lip or a statement necklace, I do love this look. It's so effortless, which I love. The pixie cut and the simple black pumps gives this look such a menswear inspired vibe. And menswear can be fun, and truly is in this occasion!
• Mila Kunis at the Friends with Benefits Moscow premiere (Elie Saab): This is so beautiful and elegant and I love it. While I'm disappointed that the styling was literally plucked from the red carpet;however, Kunis looks incredible. The white dress and shoes is vey Kate Hudson circa 2010 Golden Globes. And the messy hair? Obsessed: the perfect combination between edgy and femininity. I'm glad she didn't add any statement jewels because of the sparkled shoulder. Brava, Mila, Brava!

The Weekly: So Fierce It's So Nuts

Yesterday, something really cool happened to me: I helped out at my VERY first fashion show. Yes thats right, I was a dresser for my university's Fashion Club semi-annual show. It was pretty incredible. At first, i was a little bit nervous about not knowing what exactly to do as a dresser. And the time restriction seemed stressful. BUT IT WAS A BLAST. I loved working with the designers, models, and people who actually have a passion for fashion.

No pictures of the actual show but it looked FABulous.

I have a LOT of weekly looks so I'll just cut to the chase; onto the Weekly!

• Shakira at the 2010 Bambi Awards: I'm so in love with this look; she looks like a golden goddess! I'm obsessed!!  One shoulder dresses are so in right now and the silhouette hugged her body in the RIGHT way. The golden tone and the texture of the dress was so gorgeous and I loved her beachy waves, it was so refreshing and so Shakira. I also enjoyed how she matched the metallics with a matte clutch. Purely incredible.
• Olivia Palermo at the Glamour Awards: So I'm oddly obsessed with Olivia Palermo's style and this look is no different! The textures and fabric mixture is so awesome, chic, and trendy, I'm in love. I've seen a lot of the shear skirt looks and I think that Palermo does it the best.  The V-Neck is so tasteful  but definitely sexy. The sleek updo makes her look like a class act. And the accessories?! I LOVE GOLD. And that slim leopard belt, so unexpected but so awesome! And her style...but that's a given, right? 
• Victoria Beckham at a Fashion Conference: This may sound cliche, but Victoria Beckham ceases to amaze me: she always looks so incredibly POSH. Especially in this three-quartered dress. First of all, I love sleeved dresses. Second of all, yellow is so awesome: so happy, mod, and fashion forward. And the sleek ponytail makes the whole look come together. And, when mixed with Chanel, what could be better?
• Ginnifer Goodwin at MOCA Gala (Chanel): I see that BU alums have incredible style, true story. I love this Chanel, who doesn't love Chanel?! I'm obsessed with pearls and lace, I'm your traditional girly girl, so this dress looks absolutely DIVINE. The bodice is so intricate, which makes the rather plain lace skirt a perfect foil. And I also love how she had neutral make up on, it was so effortless and chic. This whole look, in fact, is just that.
• Rachel McAdams at the Morning Glory New York Premiere (Lanvin):  Rachel McAdams is so gorgeous, and this premiere is no exception! I love when she wears soft colors; this Lanvin was PERFECT. Usually, I'm not a big fan of ruched dresses, but this one complimented her hourglass figure instead of hindering it. While I would choose a different pair of shoes, I still think she looks absolutely wonderful.
• Kate Hudson at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards (Lanvin): I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would be Kate Hudson if I could be any modern Hollywood starlet. I love her free-spirit, her movies, and her style. This one shoulder- once again, another big trend- looks absolutely positively chic on her.  The side ruche, however, gives this dress a lot of spice. And I love the beige shimmer on her! She really looks like old time Hollywood glam. And the waves, mixed with the red lip, looks so retro and really incredible. I LOVE HER!
